I was reading up on JF that since Interco doesn't care about making a round tire, one really awesome way to balance a tire is with BB's. I'm going to buy some tomorrow, as some of the wobbling has gotten so bad that people driving behind me notice. Anybody tried this?
Here's a decent post about it. What it comes down to is BBs, Airsoft Pellets, Golf Balls, or ballancing sand. There's also a company that sells ceramic bbs that you can actually pour down the valve stem. Anything else will require breaking the outer bead at a minimum. I used golf balls in a set of 38s before and was good at speed. Anyway here's the link: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=655522&highlight=tire+ballancing
Here's another post that talks about ballancing and get's into Death wobble some too: http://www.wt4x4.net/smf/index.php?topic=1437.0
Good links, thanks. After reading that pirate post, it seems like he is going to need a hell of a lot of bbs. I think I read that someone put like 2000 in one tire. holy crap.

Seems that pirate had a lot of mixed results. Worked for some and not for others, but it seems to me that the others didn't have any patience and try different amounts. I think I might try it when the weights fall off the tires that I have.

I'm going to start with 9 oz's per tire. Hopefully this will cure the wobbling.
Take a look at these. I have heard they work. Personally I think its a better option than putting BBs in your tire.

The cetramatic balancers have been around for a while.
I've heard that it works best for the larger (37+) sized tire. Smaller tires spin too fast to effectively get them spread out enough to balance or something like that.

also every time you hit a bump from what i've read it throws them out of balance for a bit

I run bead balanced tires and they are great. By the time you hit about 35, the centrifugal force gets them where they need to be and the active (vs static) balancing allows for nice slow and even wear on your tires which means longer life. They are constantly perfecting the balancing so they get stupid high mileage compared to traditional balancing.

Fantastic! I'm doing it tomorrow at the Belvoir shop. Going to walmart to buy bb's and a little scale. Dumping 10 ounces into my 35x15x15

I just got this funny picture in my mind of you getting a sidewall puncture on a rock and shooting BB's everywhere out the side! Sure would be funny until someone looses an eye.

Probably the same things as BB's. I got them in today and it made a considerable difference, although I think I need more. I'll continue to test throughout the week, and make more decision later.

As stated in the post above yours, I did get them done. I will elaborate more.
I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and bought the copper plated bb's. As 05Warrior can attest to, these things were beefy. I bought two of these things and put half in each of the four rolling tires. When I got up to speed, the shake was reduced considerably. However, the tires are WAY off and I think could use more. After reading up on JF, I see that there's no ill effect of having too much. So, I'll test drive Monday and Tuesday and make a decision Tuesday night in time to adjust Wednesday.
Also, I put more air in today thinking that since there was a balancing effect. I think it may have counteracted it, so I'm going to drop the pressure back tonight.
EDIT: By the way, the BB's were only 6 bucks a can. Worth it if you ask me considering the cost of conventional balancing.

You can take a look at the link above, but the amount of internal weight is what is important...BBs or airsoft pellets also work great.

Yeah. Today was the big test as I drove 20 miles to Quantico and back. These things are awesome. The front is stable as a rock, but the back needs more. There's still a shake, but none through the steering system. Is this a good assumption?

Normally if you can feel the shake in the steering wheel then it is the front but if you feel it in your butt then its the back. This is not 100% but a good rule of thumb to go by. Now Now guys no jokes about using the word thumb and butt in the same post.

chris, give bobby a call he rand the sand stuff in his truck and it was awesome. I think i need to pull my tires and rebalance them as well.
Okay, I tried this today and it didn't work out so great... Maybe I'm not running enough BB's, but the balance comes and goes.... Maybe I should balance them as close as possible with weights, and then use BB's to finish it off?

As far as all the research I did, it said that you don't need wheel weights. How many ounces did you use in what tire size?
http://www.defensedevices.com/copperhead-bb-s.html
I bought two of these, and split it between the four tires. Tires are 33*12.50*15 Trxus M/Ts

I used the same type, but more. It only makes sense since I used bigger tires. I was supposed to use 10 ounces for mine, and I think 8 for your yours. However, you can use more. I wish I had a scale when I used mine, but I wasn't dropping the money for a one time use. I'm going to add another bottle split between the back two tires. Again, I saw no ill effect of using too much as it's constantly balancing, so just try some more.

We have a pretty high-speed postal scale with a digital readout and wireless display if you need to use it. It is very accurate.
I used Hi Density Airsoft pellets in my BFG MT's after checking a number of places on the 'Net. I think I used 2.5 oz. per tire, which were 33x10.50x16 radials. So far, it's all good; occasionaly get some looks when I pull up to a stop light/sign, but OK other than that. From my experience, I recommend trying it. Remember that some tires are much harder to balance than others. If I was trying to balance the Interco Boggers I took off (33x14.50x15), I would have started with at least 6 oz. per tire. Good luck!
So that must mean it will take 10 lbs to ballance my 40" ovals. :D

you should just use river stones. you'll be there all day pouring bb's :D
i ran the ceramic beads in my TJ. no weights. they were great. when i finally dig enough scratch out of my couch to lift the JK, i'll go that route again.
