Looks like an AMC 20 to me, but, see that tag up in the upper left side. It will tell you for sure.

not only is it a dana 35 but its most likely a C-clip. oh and the C-clip isnt a bad thing as long as you dont push it beyond its limits. it will handle 35s easy

I hope your kidding. 35's on a D35 is not "easily" the 35 part of the D35 is not recommended tire size

Some one correct me if Im wrong but up to 89 the D35 were non c-clip... Thats the best turdyfive to have IMO... But 35" tires maybe on a mall crawler(or trussed with alloys upgrade to 30 splines)... 33" max, thats just me...

yep.... 33's and open on a D35. I'd never go larger than that, and I'd never put money into polishing it up with a truss and stronger axles.

Although you do have a metal fill plug instead of the normal rubber plug, so yours is special.

That makes me fell good that I have a metal plug! As with tires I want to go with 33's eventaully. Hell who knows once I get some cash I will probably go to the pic and pull and rape a exploder and take the rear.

Good call! Don't forget, D35 disc brakes will fit the Chry 8.25 axle! (with some modification)

(8.25's are under some XJ's-brakes make good swap/sell items:D)

but the dana 35 has drum breaks

Not all of them. I know for sure the later ZJ's had discs. (My '93 had drums, my '97 had discs) Not sure about the YJ's/TJ's and XJ's.

Don't feel too bad about the D35, it should serve you well enough until you get ready to throw money at it. I've been running my D35 with 33" tires for a while and no problems that I can speak of.

A guy in my club ran 35's on his, and it was locked. He never had a problem, but he was geared low, and crawled all the time.

Of all the problems I've personally seen, have been snapped axle shafts, usually from tire hop or tire skip.

Once the Jeep starts 'hopping', thats when things break, no matter what you're driving.

I managed to snap a Superior Alloy 1 piece shaft in my M20 last week.

I was in some big rocks, and got the CJ hopping a little bit, and "SNAP", broke an alloy shaft:eek:

Point is, there are some guys who run the D35 and don't have problems, and others who have broke more than there share;)

Driving style has a lot to do with it, if you have a heavy right foot, and like to 'point and shoot', the D35 probably won't hold up long.

If you do more crawling, two track trails, and are easy on the throttle, the D35 can last ya a while.

I agree 100% with Hillbille. It does have a lot to do with driving style.
