Oh it a sad day indeed when a jeep passes before it's time.....

So yesterday brandon and I were painting my new roll cage and Ron was lending moral support. It was a great sunny colo day. Brandon and Tiff took Rubicon to the dog park. Ron chopped his muffler, all was well...........Then the phone rang. One of my less than stellar soldiers decided to take his 97 TJ up eagle rock ALONE. Oh wait the civies he was meeting left him. So back to my tale. He went up eagle rock alone. Oh did I mention he only had a lift on the front? I may have forgotten to mention that. So back to the phone call. It starts out with a very scared and very respectful. SSG Schneider I f'ed up I'll buy you dinner pay you I dont care but I NEED HELP!!!. So I talk him down and he tells me his rear diff exploded.
So I am thinking ok it blew out and we can disconnect his rear drive and limp him home. So I call Brandon and Matt and we drive to the lookout. Upon our little meeting we discover he broke down on Eagle rock. Oh now would be good to mention not only was he alone, he had no top, doors, survival gear and he is in flipflops. Ok so we drive to the rock and WOW his rear pass tire is 2 feet off the rig. That was the dryest cleanest axel i have ever seen. Oh and in case I forget to mention this later his jeep has no reverse gear, and the transfer case was shot.
So Matt being Matt selflessly gave his hi-lift up to brace the axle in to place for the long slow limp down the Rock. So in the intrest of people with short attention spans I will skip to the summary. 7 hrs. late jeep was down in the campsite at the bottom of eagle.
Losses:
Matt 1 hi-lift, new badges of honor
Soldier 1 piaa. driver front fender, trans case. rear axle, pride, sense of humor, and the privliage of owning a jeep may be revoked.

Wow, just wow. However, this just reinforces the fact that Jeepers and service members look out for each other.

Wow, some people just don't think things through. I think that if he ever gets his jeep fixed, he needs to do a layout each and every Friday with things he needs in his jeep in case he does something stupid again.

I bet the time that he spent waiting for help thinking about his flip-flops, no survival gear or way out was time WELL spent... or at least I hope it was. What if he didn't have cell coverage? That walk would have been a b!tch in flip flops....

Thanks for stepping up and lending a hand!....

It is a hell of a walk. I saw a jeep up on Eagle Rock one time that was left on the trail. It had been stripped to nothing.
