I will never forget. This day is the reason why I joined in the first place.
I was a naive, 28 year old uninformed civilian. On that morning, my dad called me at work to tell me that the Pentagon had been attacked and that he couldn't get in contact with my little brother, who was in the Air Force and stationed at the Pentagon. I got someone to cover me at work and I drove home to tell my wife about it. After that, I drove across town to my parents house and as I drove up, my mom, who had also left work, came running out and told me that my brother was OK. His office had been on the other side of the building. We watched TV together and saw the towers fall.
Shortly after, my wife and I split up and after the divorce, I decided to do something and enlisted. I shipped off to basic right after my 31st birthday and eventually served 27 months in Iraq. Since Sept 11, I have become a news junkie and need to know what's going on in the world.
I visited my brother in DC in Mar '02 and he took me inside the Pentagon. There was still smoke damage on the walls. A day later, we drove up to NYC and visited ground zero.
We must never forget and help others become informed so that this may never happen again.

Amen. On this day I was at work stationed in Germany. All work stopped and we stood in disbelief in front of the TV. Everything was on lock down, and many of the units weren't allowed to go home for the next couple of days. Force Pro was upped, gates were closed, and eveyone was being turned around unless they were soldiers reporting to their units. I was one of the few that were allowed to go home, but only because I was law enforcement and we all could carry radio's and take work cars home.

Jason good for you most of the story anyway....Glad your bro was safe and thank you for serving.. They laughed at me when I went to reup as I was already 45 and had no special skills and a wife and 4 kids....but I tried.
my story if you care: I am a stock and bond broker and I will remember that day forever as I was on the phone with a bussiness assoc. amd 20 yr. friend who worked at Cantor Fitzgerald in the south tower , when all of a sudden the phone went blank and I looked up at the tv and well we all know the rest of that story...Well I knew about 27 people who worked there for anywhere from 5 to 21 years. So I left my office early that day went home grabbed a six pack and headed out to my back deck to drink a few beers and clean a few sidearms aswell as longarms when my wife comes home and says what the f( picture about 8 empties and all this hardware spread out) I said if they come here I will have alittle surprise for them, and I relly did hope I would get the chance oh well... then my wife and i went to get our kids out of school as they were under lockdown, i had a brief argument with school and local LE but they came home with us..
the next morning a buddy and I left to see if we could help we got to the area about 0500 on 9/12 and spent the next 6 days in the thick of things, we did bucket brigade ,we worked in the morgue and various other areas, it was a war zone , it was not what we should see on our turf and I hope it never happens again, I was there when "W" came and made that heart felt speech...
anyway I felt the need to share that sorry for the lengh..

Thank you for your story. I dreamed of the possibility to take leave and go help, but that just wasn't going to happen. Thank you for what you did on the days that followed.
