I go through Iowa to get to the great state of MN.

I got out of the Corps in Miramar back in '01... how's the cost of living now?

That's a joke, btw. I know it's shitty.

I am from Monticello, about half way between the cities and St. Cloud. Both of my parents are from (as is the rest of my extended family) Rochester. My uncle is Rochester SWAT. I know that area pretty well, though I haven't been through there in a while, so it's probably changed.

Sweet! I'm up in Duluth, MN!

Been to the Mayo Clinic and St. Marys hospital in Rochester, for my back surgeries. Great place!

My little brother (who was adopted when he was 3) has relatives either in or near Clear Lake.

I think one of his biological brothers still lives thier, but he has nothing to do with him.

He hasn't been down that way since his Uncle Pat passed away a few years ago.

I spent some time near Soiux City, worked a few shutdowns in the area, and dated a wild redhead who lived near there.

Hope this isn't so old that it's bad form responding. I haven't been interneting much lately.

I grew up in the Des Moines area before joining the Army. Then moved back to the Altoona area in 97.

Well, the last snow storm was a pain due to school closings. I had to make sure the kiddo had a place to go, but once that was all done playing in the snow was fun.

We got 17.5" in 18 hours.

I miss that! I always laugh when I hear some po-dunk place that never sees snow closes school when it snows just enough to cover the grass! lol
Our school used to never close unless there was at least a 3 foot overnight snowfall...and if the roads were clear by morning it didnt really matter how much snow fell..I used to get jealous of the little town next to me who always closed school because all of them were farm kids!
Oh memory lane lol.

LOL, yep yep. We're in one of the consolidated, small town school districts. With that much white stuff, they couldn't clear all the gravel roads for the buses. My heep made it out, but it took some doin. We had 50mph winds and 6-8ft drifts everywhere.

Yep, it all went south of me:( Right now we barely have enough snow to cover the grass:eek:

Might have to head south, or over to the UP for some real snow!

Looks like I'm getting in on this one late too. I'm from Davenport (Quad Cities) and am currently stationed in NM. We're getting a bit of snow though. And I have the mountains just 20 minutes away where I can get my snow fix.

Hell - here's another late response. Been out of touch for awhile. Born & bread in Iowa (Audobon) then raised in WI after 2 1/2 yrs. I still say I'm from Iowa but others say it doesn't count. Now a cheesehead near Madison,WI.
I missed the snow when I was young too - now I wonder why we moved back. Oh - yea - family. Morning temp was +2 when I got up this morning and warmed up to a whopping +16. subtract 10 - 20 degrees with wind chill.
Hey Sarah - how's r the 53's doing? Was also AVI - mainly "I" level. Did "O" level with 46's for a while but primary school was 53's. Did 2 deployments with HMM-262 out of K-Bay. 1 in '81 (mech) and another and another in '88 (Avi).

I figure I might as well jump in on this since you all brought it back to life. Never been to Iowa, but I did live in San Diego for 12 years before I joined the Army. I definitely miss the beautiful San Diego weather. A buddy of mine was in the Marines at El Toro when they moved to Miramar, F-18's.

San Diego, isn't that German for "whales vagina":D

Have a blast all, I will be in the states for R&R in 9 days.:beer::beer::beer:

very late finding this but wanted to add my two cents.

not only am i from Mason City, but last year in the sandbox i was with a platoon from audobun. oh, and cabela's is easily one of the coolest places in the area (if you consider 120 miles in either direction "the area").
