well I got the body lift on.. it was about 3 hours for the install.
I pulled my fan shroud, but I'll put it back in later. I also did not put in the steering shaft. I figured it will be easier to do without the front axle under there tomorrow or sat.

Now being that my body mounts are like 23 years old I got about an inch and a half out of this LOL. ALSO I GOT ALL THE BOLTS OUT :) :)none were too bad (even the DS rear where I have the cross member bent to crap.

this was super easy to do and I recomend this for anyone with an older Jeep that needs body mounts
Here is an overall shot

That is a sweet looking rig!

Good job on the install. I'll be following in your footsteps soon.

One question: are those BF Goodrich MT's? If not what are they and what size are the tires?

Thanks,
Joel

thanks guys. if there are any specific questions please ask away.

I took a bunch more before and after pics (did not get too many durring though)

I'm just having my morning coffee (damn coffe maker broke this morning... had to get a new one) getting ready to head back up and start on gears and lockers :)

Yeah those are the BFG KM2 Muds (I guess they would be the second gen now)
and they are 35". I've had them on there since 01-02

They do offer them in Red or Black. Georgia's YJ has the 1" BL by Daystar in Black.

I guess I should've paid more attention to your signature for the info on the tires. But, hey...they look good. I'm thinking of going with 33's or 35's. BFG's look nice.

What gears are you looking at going to?

Looks great. I've been back and forth on doing the hockey puck lift as part of a tummy tuck on the ol' girl.

I'll be doing the JKS 1.25" lift here in a while.

84jeepjohn - do you ever find yourself short on overhead clearance when driving through parking garages or what not?

I just installed the 4.88's and an OX in the rear today, and I'm doing the 4.88's and another OX in the front tomorrow :o It was a LONG DAY TODAY

Well before the BL when we were in San Antonio... I do not remember haveing issues. I can still get in the garage :) so that's a good thing. I should have like 3" left before I get into troubble LOL Granted it REALLY made a difference when I "tried" to get into it:rolleyes: I about busted my @$$ :D NOW my wife has a thing about hights... she's been fine UP TILL YESTERDAY when I put the BL on... She about FREAKED when she tried to get out of it.

Haha. That's funny about the wife. I have 2" of clearance around my parking garage when I have the hard top on. I have to stay away from the sprinklers. 05Warrior broke the exit sign when he backed up....good times.

Sure sounds like a long day, but totally worth it. How did you like installing the ox locker? Any problems?

LOL. Let us know how the 4.88's are with the 35's.

My Wife is kind of freaked out about me lifting the Jeep too. She's only 5'3" and doesn't like getting in the rig right now at stock height. So...I had to tell her...I guess I'll just have to get some rock sliders so that you can have a step to get in...yep...darn...just gotta get those now....

I had been researching/asking around the last few months and 4.88 with 35's is the way to go. Some say they kept the D35 in the rear others swear against it saying its axles arent strong enough, thats for you to decide.

For us just graduating to 33's you'll find 3.07's 3.73's Not very good but livable, if you plan on going bigger than that i.e. 35's or beyond then go for 4.88's. After 35's it seems a D44, ford 8.8 (many explorer's) are maybe an upgrade to look for.

My lady loves to go but also gets scared on the hills exspecialy if we are listed to her side and she is looking down the hill :eek:LOL

I put on a M.O.R.E. 1" BL and MML after I installed my Nth tummy tuck. I was ok without, but had almost no tolerance under the tub (actually had to dimple it for the tcase). It was a simple install and since it's a short lift, it doesn't come with the typical BL installations. I say go for it!

Well I got them BOTH in!! We did the rear on Fri, and the front I basicaly did on Sat!!! That was an AWSOME experiance... BUT something I do NOT really want to do again LOL

When I upgrade axles way down the road... I'll buy some ALREADY set up!! ;)
I'll get some pics and a new thread after work. I did NOT get to take many durring the install cause it was ALL day for two days. I actualy had to drive home with the front shifter comming out behind the tire, because the hobby shop closed.. I ended up having to mount it at home LOL

so far I love the 4.88's but I have not gotten off base with it yet

LOL well that's what I'm worried about. My buddy who is retiering in like 2 weeks wants me to take it out and thrash on it. HA HA He just got back from clayton OK this weekend. he broke a new alloy USA front axle shaft in his TJ. I'm thinking.... OK I WANT to get off road. but I just got it put together... I don't want it broken :)

Just a quick note. I'm not sure if I forgot, or they have come loose but I had two bolts that were almost falling out this morning. so if you are gonna do one of these check the bolts every few days after you do it :)

I've been thinking about doing a 1" BL on my 86 CJ7. Did you have to use and extender for your trans shifter? I'm hoping not, it won't work with my Hurst and I am not taking that out.

No I did not, and I've also got a T case lowering kit on it too. I actualy prefer the shifter where it is right now LOL. I have had to open up the shifter opening a bit (and really need to open it some more. it's hitting on the driver side. not bad but it is touching)

How do you like your hurst shifter.. and I'm curious as to why they say it WILL NOT work with the body lift?? I'm thinking about getting one cause the stock one is pretty well trashed.

I love my Hurst. The shifting is so much crisper and the throws are alot shorter. I wouldn't give it up for nothing. It's not that the shifter won't work with the BL, the shifter won't work with the extenders that some have to use with the stock shifters. I'm really glad to hear that you didn't need to go that route. Time to start saving my pennies.

cool, well OK I agree... time to save some more.. and the nice thing about this BL is like I said before, MAN it tightened the Jeep UP!! and personaly I think I got closer to 1.5" from it due to the old body pucks being TOTALY 1000% TRASHED. I need to get a thread together on the actual install. again it was very easy to do. about the only thing I did "not" by the book is I just pulled my fan shroud out. granted I did end up breaking it, but nothing a bit of fiberglass tape can't fix.

and before you start make sure you have been shooting it down with PB blaster or something like that. I was able to get ALL the bolts out, and that even included the DS rear that was damaged in a wreck about 6-7 years ago.

Glad to hear that the install was easy. PB Blaster is the best, I live on that stuff. My fan shroud won't be an issue as I just installed my Flex A Lite dual 12" fans. I'll just have to fab up some kind of filler panels, but I'll worry about that later.
