I've been wanting to do this and I think it's time I step to the plate. My 1st step is to get with my local club to see if they will help support it and ask the BH Jeeps if they can help. What would be the next step? How do you get Wounded involved? Or is it all about raising money for the organization? I'm sure I can work on putting a fund raiser together. So if someone with experience can help me I would appreciate it greatly. I'm shooting for some time from June to Oct.

Anthony,
You want to do a WFTW event, or just a fundraiser ??If you want to do an event ,I strongly suggest enlisting a host club to lighten the work load.Since you would need to do a few fund raising activities in order to have sufficient funding for an event,as we do not charge the wounded or their family members, you need funding for park if there is a fee, insurance if needed, for meals. Also you want to get donations.
If you decide to want to take it further, I will send you a host club packet.
Also any funds remaining after your event are to be turned over to a local military charity of your choice. let me know if I can help further.

Let me see if I can enlist the help of my local club and the other club. Or I can work it to do a fund raiser for the WFTW.

We had contacted the local Vet agaencies DAV (no help), VFW, and FLW Wounded Warrior unit (No help) etc and told them what we wanted to do. Our local VFW even offered to purchase safety equipment for individuals to borrow if needed like helmets and such.
SMORR the park we did the ride at also got the word out. We had a couple Viet Nam Vets show up to right set ride plus raised like $1200 bucks all for WFTW.

Hope this helps you out, it's a great idea to get Vets out who normaly could not. Good Luck and High Five for taking this on!

Ghost,
I was PMing with Brandon at SMORR and he said he was game to do an event but that I needed to mend some fences ..so to speak ..because groups out there are leery that the program has ceased to exist..

he says"
I hope you understand that everything we did last yr we did on our own with no help from your end and that makes everyone feel uneasy about where the money is going. Heck i had a thousand dollars in my brief case for 8 months from the first fund raiser so its not a matter of folks trusting me its where the money goes afterwords. I handed all the money over to the Ozark mtn 4x4 club who sent the money in.

To sum it up...if you will get the ball rolling and be available (Jason never was) to get a hold of we will help you here at SMORR ....Let me know what you think.

How involved were you ?? and do you think Mo. can/ wants too pull off another event

That is the problem we had, wftw was having some issues and the persception of problems which left a bad taste in everyones mouth about the $ was going to be used to fund someones wheeling adventure or go to wounded vets. WFTW was supposed to be there and collect and when no one showed, no one knew what to do with the $. So Brandon was holding it until some clear guidence came about. The above is just the wftw experience we had trying to raise $ for it.
If you're doing a wounded Vet ride along maybe it is just that and not a "wftw" just a wounded warrior or Vet event? Money raised can to to a local or national Vet Org or Vet Hospital? That way it is reciepted and gone from organizers hands and there is no questions or bad perceptions about it.
SMORR is a Very VET friendly place and the wheelers in the area are also. They have always been willing to help/host events like our Toys for Tots and wftw and now camp MJ.
With that said, if you have a plan and can clearly show where the money is going and everyones efforts will go to a Vet org I'm sure smorr we'll be all for it.
Using TFT for example the Marine Det was on site to collect and cart of the proceeds, there is no question about where and how it went.

Agreed towards the end of Jason`s run there was some unclear comms, but as far as where $$ went that should not have been confusing, (unless as many club/organizations and individuals did where making donation to help Jason continue his journey to each event) BUT as per the "Host Club Info Package" it clearly stated that each host club does there own fundraising and that no wounded warriors or family are charged, and that any remaining funds are to be donated to a military type charity local to the event. That has never changed.

There was also a regional liason Kristi in your area who should have been able to help clear things up..

But anyway what has happened I cant do anything about ...but I know that I want to see this program survive, because it is a great way for wheelers to give back , and especially on this site where not only are we all wheelers but most have served as well... so it is a perfect fit.
That being said I will be moving forward to try to make this project work if there are past or present problems anywhere I would like to try to repair them, but I need to know where these problems are and what they are before I can attemp to mend. also need help from anyone willing to help get the word out and make ammens for past mistakes. Ya know the internet is great ...without it alot of us would probably never have met, but it also starts rumors that do irrepairable damage and moves false info faster than the plague.

As the program moves forward neither I or anyone on the board will not ask for any money from and host club, that, is to be used for that event and donated locally... EXCEPT---- we are presently rebuilding and any donations(which are appreciated, buy not something anyone has to do) back to the parent would never be used for travel and wheeling, they would only be used for the rebuilding and maintainence of the website(which I believe is very important, and the bulliten board, and for items for the good of the cause i.e letterhead, postage etc

I am sure I left out some things but I think I covered the makor issues for know if not ...let me know..

Yes media is the best way to get the word out and I have no problems with up keep expenses. I would like to help you out, Fred has volunteered to help out with wftw in Ky,Tn as he PCS's and I would be honored to help my fellow wounded/disabled vets by aiding you in this area.
There are acouple more guys retired and stationed here who may want to also. I agree this concept of wftw is awesome, and should be organized through out the states coupled with MJ and it's members it will be known well.

I will help out if you all decide you want me to.

Thank You Ghost00TJ..

It does seem like we need to to some recon and repair in some areas...

For your area as Brandon suggested that I post on the sites below...heres what he said..
thoughts?

Well that is great. SMORR can pull off this event considering i did two fundraisers on my own and got a club i am affiliated with to do the final event.
Here is what you need to do. Announce your self....after last yr a lot of people just assumed this fell apart. I am willing to help and throw events but i need you to post up and say your in charge now...yada yada yada. So that the people know this is still for real.
To sum it up...if you will get the ball rolling and be available (Jason never was) to get a hold of we will help you here at SMORR ....Let me know what you think.

Here are the main websites i think you need to visit. Post up in the forums and let everyone know about the changes and get everyone pumped about doing this again. I am sure you need a club in each state like last yrs to help do the events so i would ask who is willing to take on the job. The Ozark Mountain 4x4 club has been around the longest....since the 70's. I wish you Good luck on finding a club to help and look forward to seeing your posts.

If wftw is doing this nation wide then maybe we should use a standard blurb of what it is and and how it is run, the "Official" voice of the new wftw.
I just went to sign in on wftw guess my account expired so I registered.

As I sit here on Staff Duty, I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents FWIW. We had a few individuals that seemed to be down on the program from the get go, and near the end of Jason's run were quick to jump up and shout "I told you so!!". Fortunately Richard and company had the dedication to quietly and surely press on. Certainly his dedication to the program has rubbed off on a lot of people here in Texas and this year's event looks like it will be bigger than last years. If anyone questions if the program is dead feel free to point them at our website (see my sig). It's also a good way to contact Richard or any of our committee members.

Jerry,
Thanks Jerry and yes he hit it on the head, the San Antonio chapter...i.e. Richard and company have done an outstanding job and it is very hard to imagine that they could improve on such a great job that they did in 2009...
Richard`s and companies dedication to the program is unprecedented, and it has rubbed off on many in the SA chapter. As Jerry said hit up their web site and contact Richard or anyone else there or Jerry who is also here to see and hear of their dedication , things that work or just for ideas if you are thinking of hosting an event..

Richard`s dedication is one of the reasons he is a member of my national Board of Directors as well...

Thanks Jerry....:)
