A member of the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg was killed in southern Afghanistan last week when his patrol detonated an improvised explosive device, the U.S. Army announced Monday.
Staff Sgt. Scott W. Brunkhorst, 25, was a native of Fayetteville. Brunkhorst, who died March 30, was in the middle of his second tour in Afghanistan

The Defense Department has released the identity of a Fort Bragg soldier from Washington state who was killed in Afghanistan last weekend.
Twenty-one-year-old Spc. Joseph T. Caron, of Tacoma, Wash., died Sunday in Char Bagh, Afghanistan. Insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device.
Both are assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg, N.C.
