Hey guys:
Need some info....
Have a 85 CJ7 258 with the Webber and the HEI upgrade....most imprtant: NO EMISSIONS stuff left! ECM, wires, egr, etc are ALL GONE!
Anyone know what the timing specs should be?
Thanks
PS I'm going "QQ" tags here in NJ.....so, no more inspections.

Hey Renegade, I just did the HEI swap and put in an MC2100 carb. I found all kinds of stuff on timing, anywhere from 2* BTDC up to 12* BTDC.
Mine ended up at 4*. Most things I read said between 8 and 12*, not necassarily true.
Make sure that the vacuum dvance and mechanical advance work. Mine didn't (bought the HEI from 4WDHardware, part #DA12) I had o replace the vacuum pot, mechanical advance springs, and electronics inside my Dizzy. Burnt a valve and heated up the piston enough to egg out the wrist pin hole, all becuase of detonation, or "ping", from the timing not advancng properly. Just a heads up.
I'd start around 4 or 6* BTDC, and adjust from there. You don't want any pinging/knocking under load or at high RPM's.
btw: All my emmissions and the EGR are removed/plugged also.

Hey BillE:
Ended up at 10.
Thanks

12 degrees for "power" tuning, 9 to 10 for emissions.
