it is the welding fumes that get to my brain
How much do you need to buy for your jeep? I would imagine that it would be about the same for mine.

Ask Georgia how much she used on the Sami when we had it.

So, should I double what the sami took?

I did my Sahara and only used half of the gallon.........using it to cover my rocker guards since the powder coating has started to wear off

Figure the Sami interior is about the same size as the CJ5's interior space. (actually had more leg room in the Sami:eek:).
Most likely for you LJ's it would be a twice amount. For the non-limo drivers more like 150% treatment.
When I did the sami it was only the spray can stuff.
A friend did his YJ tub and only used bout half a gallon of the herc. And the kit comes with everything you need.
when i did my wifes old jeep the gallon kit i picked up at walmart($80) was more than enough. it is an all day plus process(I did multiple coats to get the best result). I think next time i will pay to have it done with line x or rinoliner.

The hardest part about the process is the prep work, i did a Yj a few years ago and the prepwork was hurried, so about a month later it started to lift/peel.

What All Has To Be Done For The Prep
You have to sand everything down that you want to paint, apply some liquid(name escapes me right now) then apply the liner.

Two years ago I did the inside of the CJ7 with one gal from Wal-Mart ($44 at the time).
Prep, prep, prep, prep, prep, prep.....
Sanding with Green scrub pads, cleaning dust off and rolling on.
Still looks good today, but with a couple of nicks and dings where things were dropped on top of it.
'Sides this isn't my DD or a "mall crawler"....
:D:beer:
also you need to remove all parts you dont want painted(seats, hardware, etc.) i was lazzy and left that stuff in and got herculiner on em. then i got some seat covers to hide my mistackes. if you get it somewhere you dont want it, it is tough to remove when wet and damn near imposible once it dries. like i said it took me all day. sunrise to sundown. also make sure it is warm enough out so it cures properly. if it is cool it doesnt dry right.

I didn't mix it right the first coat. I'm going to put another coat on this summer, but I'm all about just throwing the crap in. Take out console, degrease, acetone, apply.
Edit: However, you have a new jeep. Do it right.

I bought a Herculiner kit and used the roll-on method to apply the Herculiner to my CJ. I ended up with about 1/8th of a gallon left over after 2 generous coats on the inside of my CJ. Pics over in my MJ "Introduction" thread.
As everyone has said, the key to getting to go on and stay on correctly is prep, prep and more prep.
I pulled front/rear seats, tranny cover, center console, lower door hinges and roll bar. Also removed my Super Top and rails.
Once everything was out, I had quite a bit of body rust to take care of. Hit it hard with wire brushes, degreaser, "Metal Ready" rust treatment (from the makers of POR 15) and finally POR 15. Once the POR 15 was dry, I roughed everything up with the included scotchbrite pad then wiped everything down with acetone. I spent a fair amount of time masking off the areas I didn't want Herculiner on. I strongly recommend you use those foam disposable earplugs to mask the bolt holes in your floor. I used masking tape, which did work, but was a major pain to cut, stick and then remove.
Before you start spraying the liner in, I would get a thick short-bristled brush (like the ones they use for stencils) about 1-2 inches in diameter to use first to get all the corners and places you might not be able to reach with the sprayer. Since I rolled mine on, I spent a lot of time using the brush to get a good even coat where I couldn't get a good run with the roller. I used the 2-in paint brush that came in the kit and was wishing I had a stencil brush the entire time!
Have fun and post pics when you're done!
