what would be the best bet. go sye or just replace the tailshaft cone? u joint broke at the pinion yoke and caused the driveshaft to bounce around in there, and some how the tailshaft cone broke in the process. while inspecting the slip yoke i noticed it looked like it was at a very step angle, cause you could see it was worn on the drive shaft.

Go with an SYE and replace your Drive shaft.

could i have my driveshaft lengthened, or does it have to be a cv style driveshaft.

If it breaks, it needed to be upgraded anyway.

That's what I'm going to tell my wife when my axle finally goes.

Like everyone is saying SYE & CV DS. Get a front DS from another XJ or if you have a lot of lift, one from a 93ish ZJ w/a V8, or if you have a stupid amount of lift, I THINK the YJ''s and TJ's front DSs are CVs and are longer.

Any year XJ will work, as long as it has an NP231 and AW4.

The 93 ZJ V8 auto would probably work out the best.
