Hey guys, another AF guy here. I'm a LtCol currently stationed in Los Angeles. I've got almost 19 years in and have spent a good chunk of it in the Joint world working space ops integration type stuff.

I have an '84 CJ7, mostly stock (258, T5, Carter BBD) with 31" BFG ATs. Here's a current pic:

It's currently in the shop getting a 1-piece axle installed in the AMC20, looking forward to taking her out next weekend to try it out. Would go this weekend but I need to install a Painless "Factory" Harness kit in the CJ this weekend

Recently installed a Herculiner bedliner. Here's a couple of pics, first is during the install between 1st and 2nd coats:

And here are two after the 2nd coat was done and everything was back inside:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Bobalouie3/HerculinerAfter.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Bobalouie3/HerculinerAfterBackseat.jpg

Wasn't a difficult job, but took time to do it right, especially as I found more body rust than I was expecting!

Looking forward to gettin' to know you all, thanks for your service!

Good luck with the spray-in, make sure you post pics...here's the after-action on my install I posted on JeepForum:

"Regardless of if you go roll-on or spray-on, take your time and prep the tub correctlly. With my tub, I wire brushed (using a drill and a wire brush) all the rust off I could, then degreased using a biodegradable degreaser. From there, I used the POR15 "Metal Ready" phosphoric acid rust remover. After I hosed that off and let the tub dry, I applied a generous coating of POR15 to all the rusted areas. Once the POR15 dried, I roughed up the entire tub with the scotchbrite pad that comes in the Herculiner kit then wiped the tub down with acetone. I masked everywhere I didn't want the liner to go. It's a great idea to use those foam earplugs to protect all the bolt holes in the tub. I cut small pieces of masking tape, which worked, but were time consuming to cut and remove, wish I had used the foam plugs. Once you're done with the masking, you're ready to apply the liner. The Herculiner kit comes with a 2-in paintbrush to use in the corners and other places where the roller won't reach. Since you're supposed to 'dab' the liner on (i.e. don't brush it on), I think it would work better if you used one of those short round brushes they use for stenciling or applying stucco.

I found I used the brush quite a bit more than what the instructions suggested...which, I think, helped add uniformity to the coating. The second coat really added some depth to the liner. The Herculiner also did a great job of filling in the rough spots where the rust had eaten into the sheet metal under the roll bar's forward attach points and the floor pans. Even with a generous second coat, I still have about an 1/8th of a gallon left in the can."

Hey, guys! Thanks for the welcome, wish I was on the East Coast with you all, my family and I are most definitely NOT West Coast people!

Thank you for the tips on the bedliner. The first coat I did went down well, but only covers the back half of the rig. I'll take some of your tips for the front half!

About time you correct your issue and move towards the right coast isn't it? Wrong coast living is dangerous to your health!

Welcome. Nice CJ, if you need any parts, I might be able to help out as I bought 2 84's to build 1. Seems like I have 2 of everything.

How hard was the herculiner to put in your Jeep? I did it in my old mud truck on the floor boards, but now my wife wants me to put it on her TJ cause she aint got any carpeting. Oh and welcome to the site.

Dragline: Thanks, will most likely take you up on your offer.

supr_fly03: The Herculiner was easy, but messy, to install. Highly recommend you get a box of latex/nitrile gloves from Costco and wear them during the application. The hardest part for me was removing everything from the interior because of seized bolts. I ended up breaking 2 bolts, one on the back seat and one on the roll bar. Hopefully, your wife's TJ won't have the same problem. I'd get the Herculiner kit from one of the local auto parts stores. I think PepBoys had it for like $80 after rebate. The kit also comes with fairly detailed instructions. You'll also should have plenty for the TJ and some left over to freshen up your mud truck! Make sure your wife considers how the black herculiner will affect the interior of her TJ. I found (and my wife agreed) that the Herculiner made my interior seem smaller, I guess it was all the black on the floor/sides combined with the black seats, console and roll bar pad. Your wife's TJ may be different, but something to consider because once the Herculiner goes in, it's a bear to get off.
