is your engine just tired or is it acting up? if it's acting up let me know. i elimated alot on my 4.2 with 137k miles on it, even overheated 3 times due to part failure. and it came back to life with minor rebuilds and mods

well, I need to get a new carb for it. What do you recommend? It is blowing a little bit of black smoke and it has a rear main seal leak. Do you think it is worth fixing or just put a new engine in? Thnaks!!!

what kind of carb you have on it? might just need to be rebiult. if it's a carter bbd, try to unplug the electronic connection from the carb, if there is no improvment. it could be spark timing. if it is the carb after all this, you could try the throttle body upgrade in quadratech, or get a webber carb. mine runs alot better with the webber 34($300). but also, my computer was screwed up so it no longer is a part of my jeep, really easy to delete. as for the rear seal, it would be gravy to replace, and it can be done in about a day or less. fixing might be cheaper than having to convert to another engine. hope this helps you

Thanks, I am going to try to upgrade my card and try the disconnection of the computer. Just disconnect it and drive? or is their more.

when you disconnect the computer from the carb and choke should be all you need to do for the swap if everything else is working. another thing you may have to do depending on your carb you choose, you will have to change around your vacume lines. with my webber only things i have one vacume is the 4x4 and the distributer. takes a little tinkering, but it should worth while.

i'll post a couple pics of what i have so you can use it as a rough guide. one thing i still need for mine is a foam cover over the filter. but a cover from a briggs and straton air filter should fit i think.

the small vacume line under the choke is connected to the distributer time advance. depending on the valve cover you got the two line comming off will be easy. the front is split, one to the 4x4 valve( which is needed if you have vacume 4x4), the other to the front bottom plate of the adapter. throttle linkage is a trick, location depends on your tranny type, manual is on the carb base plate like on mine. one thing to know of the webber, it has a sensitive throttle. which means your push light it goes alot! getting your fuel air mix is easy as well as the idel screw adjustment. mines running 800-1000 rpm from 750rpm factory. adjusted mostly for mud bogg drags so my engine don't die if i get stuck and have to jump out! hope this helps you get your rig going again

got another one for you!! I unplugged my throttle positioner soliniod, I tryed to unplug the ECU and she would not start. I have 2 plug ins. I plugged one at a time and she still would not start. So, I plugged both of them in and she started. Do I have to get another distributer in order to take the computer out?

the ecu or engine control unit, you need. i still have mine connected. it should be connected to the distributer. but to elimate your computer fully is to find all the wires going to it, then unplug one at a time to test how runs. this way if a part of the computer does work it can still send some signal. once you go webber, there is really no need for all the sensors that measure emissions and crap like that. you can even take out the egr and make a blanking plate to open up your exhaust a little.

hey, went jeeping and I am having issues with the jeep just stalling out. I am playing with the gas\ air mixture and I am going to advance the timing a little bit. Do you have any preferences on spark plugs and wires, brand? I am just tweaking the stuff now.
Thanks
