View Full Version : Good Deal or Not For The Last Day of The Month???
2008 JK Rubicon Unlimited (soft top) - about $32k final price
trading in my
2005 stock TJ Sport with almost 30k miles (soft top)
told the salesman if he could finance it for no more than $300 / month for no more than 72 months we would have a deal. That would amount to a sub-total of $21,600.00 + $16k for my trade in - $8500.00 for my payoff and would grand total about $29,100.00. So they would eat the balance of about $2,900.00 + tax, title, & tag (don't forget the $750 loyalty rebate). sounds decent to me, not sure if they'll go for it...probably not! it is the last day of the month and they were bitching about quota.
what do ya think?
oh yeah...we were just going to look!

sounds ok to me
no dice...wasn't good enough for them!!
=(
that is too bad, I know when I traded my 05 in they would only give me 14k for it of course they would not give me anything for my upgrades to it

yeah...prolly best to sell private party. they wanted me to pay $400 / month...can't swing that right now with the rest of the bills...not only that...didn't sound like much of a deal to me!

you can get them lower than 32k on a softtop anyways. keep tryign if thats what you want
Those JKs are too nice for me... I had to run away from the 4 dr Rubicon I was sitting in.. I was getting WAY too comfortable.
The last thing I need is another vehicle...

Keep the TJ.
Mods are way cheaper.
If your wanting to wheel it, your gonna want to have older just cause you will cry less when it breaks.:)
Honestly whats the purpose in getting a new JK? Though I know if Georgia said I want one, I would probably be over there soon enough.
If its for Munchkin hauling while wheeling, look at getting a XJ (Cherokee) even a WJ (Grand Cherokee).
Keep the TJ. Your wallet will thank you.
Also don't forget the secondary cost of Insurance, did you call them and see what it would run you?

it's funny you mention the insurance cost. i can't remember where i saw / heard someone else mention that. i haven't gotten a quote...is the difference that drastic?
yeah...we really couldn't afford it right now anyway. prolly just going to put more money to the TJ loan to pay it off a little quicker...or should i just put that extra money to a lift & tires...hmmmm...i'm already selling stuff on craigs list in attempts to get a jump start on the lift & tires
I just checked my policy. I am paying $1150 for full coverage. That is about $100 more than my wife's car and $420 less than a 1988 Bronco that came off the policy. The bronco didn't have collision on it. I don't know if that will help you.

Your after market is going to be cheaper on the TJ.
If you call the insurance company (I know Progressive will sit on the phone for over an hour going over it all) asking them what would happen with various vehicle changes; i.e. Switching from a 2006 Ranger Supercab 4wd to a 2002 Ford F250 diesel crewcab 4wd actually would save me $20 per month in payments (not that I researched this any :D) for the same coverage.
Paying off the TJ quicker is a big payoff in that you pay less interest.
Mods are more fun. :D
List of questions to ask yourself when mod-ing:
1. How big do I want the end result to be?
Many proceeed Budget Boost (2") to Suspension 4" to upwards, because they don't ask that question first. It is a heck of a lot cheaper to save for the final result than to hit every step along the way.
2. Primary - Mud or Rock / lot of water crossings? 10% wheeling 90% daily drive or vice versa?
That will tell many where to give you suggestions on mods.
3. Budget - What's the wife letting you spend? You can have a great set up on a TJ Tires/Wheels/Lift/Armor for under $2k if you shop it right.
4. Place to wrench on it? Answer yes - your close enough to Belvoir we can have a wrenching party there with a good group.
Take a lesson from the Armorless Cow, Armor is your friend, it will help protect you from your mistakes. It ain't foolproof, but it can give you a great margin of error while you learn your Jeep. Armor is cheap compared to tow costs.
Never Jeep alone.
A spotter can be worth their wait in gold, there are a couple I absolutely trust and would be willing to blindfold myself just letting them talk me through the obstacle. Case in point Diego (Pacifier) backing up the Cow with every window covered in mud to recover his XJ with me only being able to hear his call for spots.
working on new post concerning future mods...
