Ok guys, now that I've taken the Willys out and seen what she can do, which I have to say is pretty impressive for a 62 year old Jeep, I'm totally hooked on wheelin. I love the Willys, but I really want to build a more aggressive rig. I don't have the time/space/money for 2 Jeep projects, so I'm considering trying to sell or trade the CJ2A and focus on another Jeep. What do you guys think about the idea? Also, do you guys think I should look for a YJ for my next project? I want something streetable, but It's going to be primarily an off road rig. I think cost wise, a YJ or CJ7 or maybe even an XJ might be the best bet. Throw your suggestions/thoughts at me. I need some outside input.

I'm a little biased, but I would point you towards a TJ. You can pick up an older one for 7k or less pretty easily, they started making them in 97. The coil springs will flex WAY more than leafs on a CJ, YJ, or XJ. Yes the XJ has coils in the front, but they have small wheel wells, and being a unibody limits how much you can cut. Mostly in the back though. When I bought Erin's YJ, I found a nice TJ for like $300 more, it just wasn't worth the drive for me. With a TJ, you can get 33's under it for $350 worth of lift, and it'll do fine. Anything you get, TJ, YJ, CJ, and maybe XJ, will have a D35 rear axle, and that should be addressed relatively quickly. I found a Ford 8.8 (beefy!) for $100, that'll be going under hers when I get time/motivation. Let me know if you have any other questions. Start looking at prices on Craigslist, autotrader, jeepforum, ect...

I showed that to my wife earlier. The only problem is, if I'm going to buy a Wrangler I'll have to sell the Willys first.

Not quite. TJ's and YJ's, yes. Some XJ's, yes, but no CJ's ever had the D35.

Some XJ's had D44 rears, and a lot of them have the Chryco 8.25 rear diff, which is a great diff for up to 35" tires.

For me it would be hard to sell a running Willys:eek: But I'd rather see it go to a good home then get cut up for a wheeler!

If you can find a nice CJ, they're easy to work on.

CJ's and YJ's have leaves, and to me, are easier to lift and modify.

XJ's are cheap to purchase, and have good aftermarket support.

I wheel both an XJ and a CJ, and both have thier advantages.

Hoping to find a nice TJ unlimited some day:beer:

Good luck on whatever route you go!!

I think it all depends on your budget. XJ would be the cheapest one out of the bunch you could get started with. I know Eric has one sitting at his place collecting dust he wants to get rid of. If you have the money that TJ that he posted the link to looks pretty nice. I hate to see the CJ2A go though. Too bad you can't keep it and still pick something else up to beat on.
