I agreed it was yours, but can someone with a "good" monitor varify these claims of being able to read initials off of the pen?? I promise it will be returned to you in as good or better shape than it was taken on tuesday at Shane's. Once again please don't kill/ban me!?!?!?!? :)

Now, THAT'S a "custom" paint job!
"Bessy" (my CJ) approves of the Orange, and especially the custom work with the paint pen (even if Harley has a less than perfect screen....;)
PS Harley gave me my new name of "She-Jeeper". He does have a knack for names...:D:beer::D

It's what I like to call a "mutt lift". Previous owner installed 2" skyjacker lift with an additional 2" budget boost as well as 3" body lift. When I get the funds I'm throwin a RE 5.5 longarm on it. Hopefully by next summer, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Those are 35x12.50 MT Baja Claws.

Well regardless, it looks good. Hey, I was stationed up there many moons ago, and lived at Belvior. Do you guys ever go down to Exit 143 off highway 95? Is that 100+ acres of wheeling still down there? That area has to be my favorite area, and I've seen offroad parks in Kentucky,Tennessee and Alabama.

That is the 610 exit in Stafford....as far as I know there isn't any legal wheeling down there anymore. That is right below Quantico. I work near that exit and know the area pretty well...wish there was a legal place to wheel right there in my backyard though.
I was thinking more north, i do know that area your talking about too. Back when I lived there, the area by exit 143 was owned by the power company and they were fine with wheeling that 150 acres as long as the towers or transformer yards werent messed with. Probably changed by now of course.
Disclaimer:Legal wheeling is the only correct wheeling of course.

The one north is still there, buy the prince william county police. Not legal by any means any more. It's more around Rippon Landing and such

If it was further north, than it wasn't exit 143 as that is the Stafford exit.

I know where you are talking about...it is off of 153 by Dale City. I saw a FJ cruiser getting towed out the last good rain we had with a few guys in the back of a PWCP car right behind it. LOL

Yeah, I had a great summer wheeling there last year. Went too much and too hard and broke alot of stuff. We went back after I fixed everything and there was concrete barrier so we haven't been back.

Used to ride my dirtbike down there. It wasn't necessarily legal, but I was told by the locals down there to just stay away from the houses and don't make a lot of noise, and nobody cared. But since then a lot of the area has been bought up and under development so it's definately a no go.

I've never had the guts to paint anything worth while with a can, but seeing this makes me think otherwise. My flares need to be re-done, and a few cans of ol' flat black should work good... NTM I have some chrome parts that I hate... hmmmm.

Unfortunately, that orange has faded amazingly fast, but the black has held up really well, so in the very near future the whole jeep may be black.

I've wanted my Jeep flat black since I've owned it... and one day it will be. I don't think I'd do the whole thing with a can, but ya never know. Right now everything is black, 'cept for the chrome... and damn I hate chrome.
05warrior
06-22-2008, 10:17
Flat Black is around 2.70 a can, plus your jeep is already black so it wouldn't take a whole lot of paint to cover it. Just my .02 cents.
gunnersmac
06-22-2008, 10:25
Yeah, but would it last like a real paint job? Guess only trying it would tell the tale.
Painting a vehicle is all about prep work to be honest. I've shot a CJ5 in my drive way with a air gun, and it turned out pretty good, the only issue was dry time and the owner wanting a finished produvt sooner than the paint could cure.
Rattle cans have the issue of clogging, or over spraying if you get in a hurry. Painting over a factory paint job will require you removing/scuffing the clear coat if you want good adhesion. There is also a dull clear coat that you can use which will maintain that flat black appearance.
Painting your flares if a different story. You need to use paint especially for plastic if you want any adhesion at all.
gunnersmac
06-22-2008, 14:50
Yeah, I was planning on scuffing the flares real good, NTM getting the rattle cans just for plastics, and then maybe a dull clear coat like you mentioned.

Holy smoke- I had tears streaming down my cheek reading the Medal of Honor posting for McGinnis, only to be laughin my @$$ off at the first Road Cone pics- when I saw the outline of the body, I lost it again!! Tears of awe to tears of laughter in 5 minutes? I must be getting soft!
My 1st YJ I got from the Dealer in late June of '89, just in time to cruise the SoCal beaches. By '91, I had jitterbugged it, and spray gunned PPG 2-part Epoxy Primer, Flat black on it- she was BEAUTIFUL, and 2 years old. I was in Yuma back then, and the 200 degree heat, hard water (permanent water spotting on a black Jeep), and the concertina-wire based local 'vegetation' required a kevlar paint job... Epoxy Primer was the ticket- I could wash it with steel wool, no worries!
I'll post the pics of my newest stable-mate when it's done in Dead Flat, MilSpec Green, but until then- damn dude- your rig is my hero!!!
BTW, nobody has disputed the accusation that we are retarded, so, I guess if the shoe fits....
