Anyone know the appropriate torque setting for a serp belt on a 98 wrangler sport?

AC or non ac? Assume 6cyl?

According to the tech manual, "the belt tension cannot be adjusted."

If you're talking about the tension pulley, during installation you're supposed to tighten it to "250 in. lbs".

All of this is per the Tech Manual.

6 cyl with ac. I think I may have it on too tight. It makes a different sound now than it did. It doesn't sound like grinding or anything, but its noticeably different. Everything is running fine with the jeep, its no longer losing coolant or overheating, the a/c works, but I'm worried if its too tight I may burn out the bearings.

In my manual it says it should have 1/4" give each way. Thats what it has right now, but it still sounds funny.

Do you guys think that loosening it up may help or could it be something else causing the noise like a loose/tight pulley.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Ok, with a 98, does it have the manual tension adjuster under the power steering, like my wife 97 TJ, or does it have the automatic near the alternator like my 06 Rubicon? If it is like my wifes and is in 1/4" play spec, all should be good, is it chipping, squealing, ticking, or anything like that? Be more specific on the noise. Oh is the belt new or used, cause they have two different settings.
