View Full Version : Well, hello there!
New to the forum. I am from California. I have an 87 YJ. I am an Operation Iraqi Freedom Vet. I have been medically retired from the military. My MOS in the Army was 68 Whiskey.
I'm looking forward to blathering about and flooding the board with my endless ramblings.
Ya know, I should really use my powers for good. Evil is over rated now-days! :p

What's up bud? Welcome over, hope you enjoy it. Let's see some pics of the heep.
Hahahaha... OK, but don't laugh! :D I just got it about a month and a half ago. the first order of business was to paint it.

I was amazed when I first saw it. Being from the east coast, I had never seen an old YJ that wasn't all rusted up. That is other than the ones that had been babied.
I have a ton of stuff in store for it. I need to fix the Frankenlift that the PO put on it. I'll be adding Sliders and under body armor and what not.
I have been bitten by the rock crawling bug... So no more pristine garage queens for me! :D
I'm relatively new to Cali. I am from the east coast. Sadly I had to give up my other Jeep before I came out. This was my 97 TJ Mall Crawler:

Where did you get the ACU seat covers and roll bar covers? I've been searching, but can only find the old camo material.
Welcome aboard!
I see that there were West By God Smile When You Say That Virginia tags on the Rubi. Where from?
On the ABU material, (I really hate saying this) Wal-Mart carrys the pattern, as does JoAnn fabrics (I HAVE to go there with the wife, daughter and daughter in law. My story, sticking to it:p)

You are right Sir! :D I got it from Wal-Mart. They had 3 different types. A heavy canvas, a knit and also a Rip-stop. I bought all they had! ;) I got the canvas for the seats and I did the bars in Rip-stop. I took the seats to my upholstery guy and asked if the material would hold up. He has been doing this for about 30 years. He said "Hell Yeah" "You'll NEVER wear it out and it looks to be water proof too!" So $700 later, I had ACU pattern seat covers. The coolest thing was the fact that when I was in uniform, I blended in! ;)
Why would anyone laugh at such a good blank canvas? In my mind, you have the makings of a really bitchin' project and what a starting place!!! I look forward to watching you build this and then stealing some of your ideas!:p
Loved your old rig, but, as they say, REAL jeeps are made....not bought!
Welcome aboard....and I cannot thank you enough for your service to all of us!

Welcome fellow Jun06 class member! Ironic that one of the first things I endeavored to do is begina paint project! I have ordered the MilSpray USMC Green paint- should be here in a few days. What paint did you use?
Love the old seat covers on your TJ- but I believe I'd get my ass kicked if I used ACU material... So I guess I'll go to the base Thrift Shop, and buy a Female Marine's Cammie Blouse- I figure each blouse outta be enough material for a full bucket seat cover- haha. Check this out:

That way nobody sees us parked back up in these trees
Your little i-pod loaded down with hoope and stink
Don't be a tape player hater girl were cruising to Hank"
