Well i haven't posted on here for a while, I want to share with you what I have been doing. Last year me and my wife rode in our Veterans Day parade, I had just my XJ little less than a month, while waiting for the parade to start I was thinking, then I told my wife, I think I want to do something diffrent to my XJ, see it was already built, but it looked like it could be better, plus being a Veteran and having all my Military stuff stolen I wanted something that I can look at to remind me of my time in the Army, I told her i wanted to paint it Desert Camo. I chose Desert Camo because I was deployed for Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom 2 times. So driving through the parade route I said, I am going to do it.

I got a late start, it was right after an Armed Forces Day run out at Calico in California near Barstow, I didn't get it completed and the 2010 Veterans day parade is tomorrow, but I want to share what I have done.

here are pics:

First pics of the Armed Forces Day run where i did some damage:

I know, the EXO didn't protect the doors

Now for the build:

Off with the EXO:

Then grinding where the EXO mounted, keeping the tubing around the fender area:

Got 4 new doors from a buddy of mine:

The we built me a tire carrier, started with a JK tire carrier from Rock Hard and modified it a little:

In the next few days I used spray on bed liner to the black areas to make everthing look fresh:

Well I didn't get it desert camo, but we have the base for it, we will be going back, sand it all down, thinking about going digital camo, we will shoot the rest of the camo and clear it with a matt cleat to give it that flat/semi gloss look.

Looks good. Have you thought about the chocolate chip pattern? It would look really good and be a lot easier to paint than the digital camo.

I agree on the old school desert camo. You should go with the choc chip pattern that would make you super unique and a lot easier to put on I would imagine.

I did a quick google search for desert camo Jeep and camo Jeep not one of the Jeep's I saw were the chocolate chip pattern.

that sounds like a great idea, Desert Storm camo aka Chocolate Chip

Yep, paint a yellow ribbon on it and add Lee Greenwood singing "God Bless the USA" and BAM, circa 1991.

But seriously, the chocolate chip would look really good, be unique and, I think, a lot easier to paint.

I really like your front fender flare/tube fenders also. Is there any concern about the "flare" crumpling up against a rock?

I too served in Desert Shield/Storm and Like you I wanted my XJ in Desert Tan so a few rattle cans later and you get the ideal.

By the way nice job turned out great I love these Gulf war tributes...I would like to know more about the front axle you have and perhaps a close up pic??

I like your tire carrier set up, I'm trying to get something like that for my jeep. How does it lock into place on the drivers side?
