Mostly started this thread to see what anyone else has done with 550 cord, (or parachute cord.) Here is a mod that I had done. I got tired of those stupid/cheap door stops that break,so I figured i would try something that could withstand 550lbs of pull. I used the braid that those nifty bracelets are made of. If you want to use my idea I can post up instructions on how to do the braid.

I also use 550 cord to hold down the back part of my soft top, when i "convert" it to a safari top. I just tie it around the frame and tie the other part to a couple holes in the body.

That looks like a good idea...
I'll have to look around and see what I've used 550 for... I do know that I use to make key chains with it!

I used 550 cord to hold up a front lower control arm after a days worth of fun. drove about 45 miles at about 35 mph on the freeway! when i find the pic i will post it.
Be careful, everyone seems to call all types of parachute cord "550 cord". Not all "550 Cord" can withstand 550 pounds.

Used the 550 cord as a fan belt on a 76 Cougar when the belt broke, on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of nowhere in Texas

i wrapped my shift handle in it so it doesn't fry my hands after being parked in the sun all day. Works like a champ!
pulled out the guts and made a nifty knife handle with the sheathing. Wish I still had that Cold Steel pig sticker!

i pull out all the guts then tie a knot in it and use it as my zipper pull string.

made lanyards for the little nylon strap that makes the seat tumble on the early TJS picks to follow.

Can you post pics of the top hold-down and also how to make the braided strap? My second set of nylon straps are ripping and I want to end the nonsense.

for the top hold down, its just tied onto the soft top frame and then looped through a hole in my body (above the tailgate bar) I'll try to get a pic.
as for the door straps, here is where i learned the braid, other than that, you just need to measure out the length, http://www.instructables.com/id/Paracord-bracelet-with-a-side-release-buckle/ pics to follow

measure out the right length as shown and start the braid with the bracket on the door as show

I used a 1/2 socket wrench for the other side of the braid (The side the braid starts out on) you kinda have to use your noodle to figure out the start.

then you just start to braid!

good luck
