I started sanding and painting the sport cage yesterday. For some reason I thought I would have it all done in one day so I could install it today. That is not going to happen.

I still have one more coat of paint and then a clear coat type stuff to put over the top of it. It looks like I will be installing this next weekend. Maybe I will try to replace my headlights today.

Sorry miljeep, newbie question. Whats a "sport cage"?

I think that the term 'sport cage' applies to the add-on roll bars that only add to the stock roll cage system. This is all recollection as well, but I think the next step up is full cage which replaces everything.

Sport cages run bars from the middle roll bar to the front, which runs down to the floor and/or frame. Also adds a crossmember at the top of the windshield and above the dash. You can also get more bars to add to the back portion.

I got it to protect my kid. With my daughter in the back (she is 3) I don't want something to happen on or off the trail that will cause the jeep to go on it's side and possibly have the cage fail. The rockhard4x4 cage I got has a bar that strengthens the rear of the cage and also some additional supports that go from the middle of the rollbars in the back of the jeep to right in the middle of my speaker bar. I got the floor mount kit and frame tie in kit with it.

I sanded it and started painting yesterday. I finished painting it today and will do some minor painting this week. I should have it installed next weekend. /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

What color did you go with?

I ended up buying some professional black enamel rustoleum. I also got some clear enamel to go over it and maybe make it a little tougher. It looks good now, but I want to hit it again with the clear a few times before I install it.

I'm going to go with silver for mine (whenever I get around to getting one). I liked how the Rubicon Express lift popped that silver out on the black jeep, so I'm going to go over a couple things with some silver. Roll cage being one. Don't want to over do it, so I'm going to take it slow.
