On the way home today my oil pressure (90 YJ 2.5L) pegged out at 80. Normally runs between 50-70.
Fluid levels are fine...where do I begin looking?
I'd start with an oil change including an oil flush. Follow that up with checking your cylinder cover for a proper seal and your PCV/oil breather on your cover. After that your going to need to look at the oil pressure sending unit. Of course you could do all of these in any order.
Hope that helps.

Thanks. It is due for an oil change anyway so I will knock that out first.
Thanks for the help!

sending unit, its a common problem in the grands. dunno bout the YJs though. Thats where we always start with stuff like this, you might also check to see if the pickup is clogged, of course that will require pan off.

check the connector to the pressure sending unit and trace the wire as far as you can check the wire out.
if it needs an oil change and you have not added oil since the last change it would read low in most cases because the oil is thiner that goes for gaskets as well i would check the sending unit
I believe it's the sending unit. I have a 91YJ and it is doing the same thing. I haven't gotten around to changing it yet, but I hear it's common on the YJ's.

I have the same prob in mine. I replaced the sending unit and the same thing happened... pegged. I figure it's just a short between the ending unit and the gauge. I'm going to put a new dash in.. so I'm not worried about it.

I've had it happen twice to me, the first time it turned out to be a sending unit and the second time it was the oil pump. Both of which are easy to change out.
