I could use some advice.
I am a beginner with an 04 Wrangler that has 31" tires and a 1 1/2" lift. We want to visit the Buena Vista area and travel some of the moderate trails. Our current plan is for the August time frame. We are looking for input on trails and cabins for lodging.
Thanks for the help.

Buena Vista is where we held the 2010 Camp MJ Rocky Mountain. There is a link in my signature that has stuff about lodging. There's a KOA just south of town and Arrowhead Point resort north of town and they both have cabins for rent.
As far as trails, there's a ton within 10 miles of BV. Try www.traildamage.com or find this book:

Jason covered it well. Since I'm still in the army, I don't know if I'll be around then or not, but if I am, I may just tag along.

You should find plenty of trails for your rig. I know there are some harder ones around the BV area, but there's a bunch that don't require a full on trail rig.
Lots of history and great scenery in the area. Great country!
The Trail Damage crew is mostly from CO, with a few of us goofballs from MN heading out there when we can :p
They have great trail reports, and run most of the trails pretty regularly. Should be a 'Date last Run' on the description.

Thanks for the input. I ordered the book and we are looking at our options for cabins. I do have an additional question; any ideas for a low cost GPS?

Garmin e-Trex, although my favorite for Jeeping is my Garmin Rhino 120. It's a radio (FRS/GMRS) and GPS in one unit.
While my club uses CB's for comm, a lot of clubs I ride with only use FRS radios, so it works out great.
It's also a handheld, so it can be used while hiking, in a holder on the dash while driving, and locked up/put out of sight when left in the rig.
I'll hopefully be around. I haven't done more than two or three trails in the BV area, but the ones I went on were definitely just right for your jeep. Keep me posted. If you have any trail Ideas let me know and I'll ask my wife about them. Sometimes I think I married her for her knowledge of CO more than anything else. Only problem is that she has seen more of it from horseback than any other way.
First I gotta come home from this damn deployment, though. Just tired of being tired of being bored at this point.

Yes sir. I see you are from Duluth. That area is my favorite place to visit. The wife and I enjoy camping on the north shore and canal park. Thanks for the welcome. Everyone has been very helpful so far and I appreciate it.
If you log on to traildammage.com, you can find a ton of info about the trails in the mountain states. The people that run the site are great about trail pics and a boatload of area info.
