fay observer had this of a jeeper getting rescued http://fayobserver.com/articles/2011/01/12/1062540?sac=Home
A man who tried to cross a swollen creek near Hope Mills in his Jeep had to be rescued this morning when the vehicle stalled in high water.
The man has been identified as Jack Luker, 26, of the 3700 block of Yorktown Road in Hope Mills.
The saga began about 2 a.m. when Luker decided to ride on Mission Hill Road, a dirt trail frequented by four-wheeling enthusiasts, said Matt Williams, assistant chief of the Stoney Point Volunteer Fire Department.
A creek that is fed by Lake Upchurch runs through the area, Williams said, and Luker tried to drive across it.
The creek, which about 30 yards wide, is usually shallow, Williams said, but the melting snow and ice caused the water level to rise.
"He (Luker) was trying to get to the other side and didn't know how deep it was," Williams said.
Luker drove into the swiftly-moving creek, but the high water forced him to stop.
The Jeep was submerged in water that reach the top of the hood, Williams said.
Luker climbed on top of the Jeep to escape the water, Williams said.
It was about two hours later that Luker called 911 and reported his predicament.
The site was about a mile from the nearest paved road, Cherry Blossom Lane behind the Village Green subdivision, Williams said, and it took rescuers about 45 minutes to find Luker.
"We had to talk to him on the cell phone to find out where he was," Williams said.
When rescuers reached Luker, they were hindered by the fast-moving creek waters.
"We got him (Luker) a lifesaving rope to tie around him and then he jumped off, into the water, and we pulled him to shore," Williams said.
Luker, who could not be reached for comment this morning, was not hurt, Williams said.
"He was just cold."

Yeah, it sure is. I looked at it on a map... Perhaps we should steer clear of the area for a couple of weeks...
Why would you wheel alone or have nobody to call if you do get stuck. That crap just gives all of us a bad name I hope he's hydrolocked he don't deserve a jeep.

Obviously my decision making process is uh..... ok sure! But even with two other vehicles to pull me out, I got halfway across the creek and backed out. Shit was DEEP.
that's all he needed was someone to call. F'n STUPID! Look at my avatar to see where he got stuck :D
Even if I was drunk and thought it sounded like a good idea to go wheeling at 2am by myself and didn't have anyone to call I am NOT calling 911. Jump off the Jeep, and get your ass out of there. Even if the water was moving faster than usual there is no way it was going to carry him too far. Get out and walk your ass home in a cold, wet, shame. DOUCHE!

I agree with all ya'll!
Let me throw this out there....if any of ya'll get stuck and need help, you can call me 24/7 and I'll bust my ass to get ya. I'm not stupid enough to wheel alone, especially at NIGHT, but I'm pretty sure I have a couple numbers of guys that I could call if I had an emergency. Now, I might owe'em a bunch of beer and I'd hear about it for months, but they'd come. Hell, the other day Dave and George came out with me for a bit just so I wouldn't wheel alone!!! THAT'S friendship. Thanks guys!!!

hahahahahahahaha... i did that once... crossin a stream that ended up past my belly button.. hydrolocked the shiznit out of my 5.9... i climbed out the sunroof and had it hooked up to my buddy behind me's truck and got it out in less than 5 min.... pulled the plugs and shot water from every cylinder.... then changed all my fluids(yup. i carry that much crap) then had to change them again at basecamp... then drove home 70 miles...
but what kind of moron wheels alone??? or at least takes risky chances when alone??
^^^^^ hhhhhmmmmm...... that sounds really familiar :D

Hey, it happens... Lesson learned here, call 911. Don't call a friend or walk home. Just call 911 and guide them right on in.
Asshat!
But for real, do ya think the dumps should be a no go for a couple of weeks?
I don't think we need to stay away at all. It's not like they are going to post cops back there or anything. What's the most that they can hit us with anyway? I ait scurred.
Might have to stay somewhat sober just in case though.

I don't us needing to stay away, people get stuck out there all the time. Now, if we get approached by some kind of LEO and told to stay away, then OK.
And yes Eric will drive 40 mins to help a brother out (been there done that). But like a lot of others on here if you need any help just let me know, I actually live 4 houses down from the rope swing. If you need help you know where I am!

Probably was hiding the body....
Then he's still a moron!
Hill, Bill E.'s Rule #1 when dumping a body: "Never put your vehicle into a situation where you might get stuck"
Tow truck drivers tend to report a truck with human body/bodies and/or body parts in the back.
Rule #2: "If you break rule #1, bury the wrecker driver also, and dispose of the tow truck in the nearest available body of deep water"
