My bearing went to shit last night, making the jeep undrivable. Do I need the whole assembly or can I just replace the bearing?

Chris, I dont know for sure if the tj is the same but on a YJ all you have to replace is the bearing assembly. Im to lazy to check out the breakdown on q-tech

Hmm...bearing assembly. I'm sure we have the same fronts unless yours is HP, so I'm gonna look at the breakdown.

Mines high pinion but there is only 3 bolts that hold mine in. Takes me a couple minutes to get it off after the wheel is off. It takes a 12 point socket.

Roger. We have the same outers then. The three on mine are also 13mm 12 points.

Piece of cake Bro. take your outer axle retaining clip and nut off. then you can take the 3 bolts out and then pry that sucka out. reverse the process with the new bearing assembly.
I am not a jeep expert but I did sleep at a holiday in express last night :D:D

Oh, I know how to take apart the entire assembly, thanks to a mishap replacing a u-joint, but I just wanted to make sure I didn't have to drop ~120 bucks on a new hub assembly. I cannot find the "bearing assembly" that is being discussed.

Some guy on JF said that the bearing assembly=hub assembly.

Shit, that jeep's going nowhere in the shape it's in. We had it disassembled on the side of I-81, but the flipping parts stores closed in 3 minutes

You think I'd leave my jeep on the side of the road
With all the bad luck, my buddy had AAA and I got a free tow home. God Bless him. :)

Those unitized bearing assemblies suck. I went through 2 of them before my Jeep even had 10,000 miles on it. I finally got fed up with them and went with the manual hub conversion. That was before I went to full-width axles.
