Hey PPL Just figured I'd share a writeup I made at jeepforum.com with you guys.

Autozone give a fair discount on rebuilts and its a bolt up improvement to the stock wrangler box. You could also pull one from a salvage.

Seen this on JF before. One of the long list of mods I plan on doing, but it is only at the middle to end, unless my box goes out.

here in MI the box is 185 +110 refundable core deposit. A corpsman in my unit got me all sortsa discounts so mine was about 100 + core. I was able to turn in my yj box as the core cuz the two are identical except for the extra bolt hole in the yj box and smaller yj box size. Now I am not saying that you should be dishonest, just saying what I did. Autozone does offer discounts.

Oh man this may have gone to the top of my list. My steering is shot!

yeah, my stock box was shot with a full half turn either way before the wheels would respond. That's with the box adjusted as far as it would go. Now when I turn, the thing actually stays in the turn. If you do this mod though.... PB it about 2-3 days before you start...... makes life soooooooo much better.

Some might find the ratio too fast though! My sons 99 Dakota with a solid D44 in front was a pain, it was two turns of the wheel to turn at a regular 1/4 turn corner. Went with a 85 Jeep Wagoneer FSJ and it worked great, bolted in place too. There are many ratios out there. You can, if you want to stretch you wheelbase forward, use an Astro Van box. The arm faces forward and the gears are reversed so you get about 7" of increase. As long as its a Saginaw Box it will bolt up.
