View Full Version : Who wants to help pull a motor?
I picked up that XJ from Jeremy for parts and I was planning on slowly pulling the parts a little here and there, but someone on NC4x4 just made me an offer on the motor. He would be driving up from Charlotte to pick it up. If I supply some beer and pizza would any of you want to give us a hand pulling it for him?
*no $50 worth of burritos though, because that will kill the little bit of $$ I'm making off of this deal.
sorry man i already made plans this weekend
oh...no... it's not this weekend. I was just checking to see who might be willing to help me out. I have no clue when he'll be coming up yet.
*edit - and I work this weekend, but I am going to try to have the HEEP ready for the following weekend. Just riding bitch was NOT fun last weekend.

I'll give it a shot, just let me know when. (not this weekend)
Is anyone else ever available through the week? I figure this weekend is no good and the following Saturday I want to go wheeling.... Sunday is the Super Bowl and then I wouldn't have off another weekend until the 19th.

I'm down man. But It would have to be on the weekend for me.

I've never pulled one before. What should I do before having people come over to help out if I have time and how did you actually get yours out of your Jeep?

If you get a stand for it, I might be able to get ahold of a cherry-picker, but I'd only have it for a day or so before I had to return it. I'm not available during the week, except maybe a couple hrs at night.

I'm happy to help, but like everybody else that works a normal schedule, weekends are best.
For a head start, you could take off all the little shit, electrical connectors, intake(?), vacuum lines, drain the coolant. Then when the help arrives, trans and motor mount bolts.

Eric called it. Knock out all the little shit before hand, and track down a cherry picker and engine stand before hand. I know a couple people that have them if you need them. And buy a bunch of beer and pizza haha

Oh and pulled it out with a cherry picker. I would pull the hood, fenders, and all that bs off so it's not in the way. If you're selling the trans or t case as well, I'd unbolt the t case crossmember let the it tilt down and drain out for cuz it takes a while.
Thanks for all the tips. The updated plan is for me to get my garage cleaned and somewhat organized, get the front axle back under the parts Jeep and get it over to my place, so all of this can be done in a garage. After I get that far I'll let you guys know and I'll try to schedule this.

pulling an engine is easy.. just alot of little stuff.. hell, with the right tools we could have it out in a couple hours.. you gotta figure out what your gonna do with it until that guy comes to pick it up.. just laying i on the floor is gonna make a mess, and be in the way. an engine stand would be awesome, just make sure you have the right bolts to mount it.. never fails for me to have bolts that are just barely too short..
I wasn't actually going to pull it out until he gets here. I'll try to get it all ready to pull and then when he gets here we can pull it and then the rest is up to him.

i would definitly recommend geting those little half bag zip locks.. i think they a snack size. just for putting the bolts into and then labeling them, works wonders..
Yeah, our pantry is full zip locks from snack bag, sandwich, and gallon sizes, so I'm straight. I use those and label them. If I didn't I'd lose it all or forget what goes where.
im in just let me know when, you dont live that far aways so im only a couple ins out.

speaking of motors... when are you doing your swap Mike?
If you need an engine hoist, let me know and you can use mine. Just need a truck to move it.

Sounds good...
Thanks a lot
