What do you guys think about this deal? Rear should be ready to bolt right up to the HEEP and the front is set up for leaf springs, so I'd either have to get mounts made on my rig or cut those off and get it set up for springs. Other than that it's ready to go with 5.38 gears chromo shafts, and locked front and rear.

Should I go with something like this or just pick up a D44 front and 9" rear for $300-ish and build them up myself a little at a time?

This guy wanted $1800 for just the axles, but I have him down to $1200 with steel wheels and 38's included. The 38's are pretty much shot, but would be good enough to see how my HEEP would do on 38's anyway. Then I can run the 33's for a bit or try to sell them and pick up some bigger tires in a few months.

Thoughts?

Well, as i am reading.... The HP Dana 44 is set up with leaf spring pads. It has 5:38 gears, a detroit locker, 5 lug, chromo inner and outer axle shafts, and spicer u-joints.

The 9" has 5:41 gears, a spool, 31 spline shafts, 5 lug, complete drum to drum.
$1800 for both.

Front and rear are geared differently is that because it is a 44 and a 9"? Who knew?

PS: Look at the tie rod- Kind of curvey... Who knows what those axles have seen - rocks/ abuse/ worth having? just what I thought when I saw the pics, but what do I know?!

Right you are sir.... but I have him down to $1200 for the axles and the wheels/tires. Tires don't have much life left at all, but they're 38's.

The different gearing confused me as well though.

yeah, I saw that. The only real way to ensure it hasn't been beaten on at all is to build it up yourself, which would cost quite a bit more than $1200.

That big bend is right in the middle of the long tube as well. Not to mention possibly in line with the pinion area of the rear. I would just be apprehensive until I saw the axles in person...

My tie rod has been bent quite a few times, I wouldn't say my axles have seen tons of abuse. But I would be leary about running gears that far apart. But maybe it's fine. Most of what we run in is sand/loose anyway.
