View Full Version : Anyone up for a President's Day Weekend run?
I'd like to go out and play on at least the 18th and maybe the 21st as well. Anyone else up for it?

sounds cool...
I was going to take the family camping, but now the kids have to make up snow days, so it's no longer a long weekend. I figured I might as well plan on wheeling to light a fire under my arse to get the Jeep operational again.

We'll see what happens. Out at guc if you want to swing out...
My little girl is in bed with the flu, so I'm stuck here today or I would. Hopefully she is better and can go to school tomorrow, so I can get some work done. I AM still thinking about going out and hacking off the catalytic converter on the Durango today still though. I haven't destroyed anything in awhile, so why not?

Might as well!
got the f'er halfway off, but the bearings in my sawzal just took a shit and the other side of the cat is hard as **** to get to.

I'd like to lose mine too. One side is bolted but the other is welded. I think maybe I could get a piece of tube and bash it in to create a "straight pipe" yet look legal. Anybody try that?
I'm putting a straight pipe in mine. I don't think they actually do a visual inspection for them here unless it's about eye level like Nick's. I finally got my cat off, but picked up a piece of 2.5" pipe instead of 2.25, so I have to run out when the wife gets home to exchange it.
For the HEEP I think I am going to ditch the cat, stick the glasspack right where it used to be, and then just run the exhaust out the side in front of the rear wheel.

Are you sure youre not talking about the resonator? The cats on the newer TJ/LJs are right directly off the exhaust manifold. Its a 2 piece manifold with 2 cats, the after they meet at the Y pipe there is a resonator. I took that bitch out on my LJ and ran a home made autozone exhaust with a 2.5" flowmaster 40. I ran it out the side in front of the rear axle just like Matt said. It was pretty loud but sounded mean as hell.

I thought they had the two little fellas on the manifold, like you said, and then the main cat. I could be wrong though. I read a long thread about different mufflers and a guy was saying he had run a few they were talking about but removing his cat had about the biggest improvement on gas, tq, and HP. I don't have money to throw at exhaust right now, but would love some more mileage and ponies. And I'd like to keep it there for inspection purposes, just in case they do check I'm not wasting time and money putting everything back stock.

My JK is probably out. It is either the T-case or the Transmission... It may be a while for that one to run. I think the wife is coming up for the weekend, so I will see what her plans are...

im out... front axle acting up... shaking and vibrating horrible so i dropped the front driveshaft... mostly smooth now, except when i mash on the skinny pedal (like only a 5.9 can do). then it has an intermitant howl. stupid pinion seal is leaking all over and i think the bearing is shot.
think thats what i get for letting matt ride with me the other day... lol

Yeah, but since I am new to the whole wheeling thing getting the chance to be a part of a big event sounds fun (since I can't be at Hammers) getting to check out a bunch of rigs and to even do a little something positive for me is exciting. So I don't mind so much on the crowded part. Plus it is something different from our same Dumps.
Hey, all we do is sit around talk and drink anyways... according to Pep Boys expert wheeler. Lol

Yeah sometimes being huge is a real buzz kill... But the chicks dig it.
Well.... pipe is in where the cat used to be, but leaking like a bitch with just the clamps on. I guess I'll have to get my bottle filled and weld it up after practicing for a bit.

I'm out for a Gulches run. I don't have the time or money right now for an all weekend dealio. I'm down for another trip down there when it isn't quite so crowded though.

that sucks... what about the MJ? How close is that one to being wheelable?

The weekend of the gulches will be packed and busy but fun as hell. The owner skip has really put his a$$ out there for the sport. If you can make it out there some weekend it is worth it. Small park but many trails. Many sponsored drivers test and play there

WTF, Over??!!! :D00i00
Im a new guy on the site. I wouldnt mind getting out with some of you next weekend. I will keep my eyes open to see what develops.
shit.... I might be heading up to Mt. Mitchell instead of sticking around at the dumps. Not to wheel though. I'm thinking of takinig the 3 dogs, pack, and a tent and hiking up and around the mountain just dorking around for 4 days (Thursday-Sunday). That's about all I have as far as plans go. I'll probably just wing it. Just going to carry enough supplies that fit on my back and hike back to the car whenever I need to resupply. Anyone ever been out that way camping?

It does sound pretty awesome. I wanna go sometime. We should organize a hike/campout sometime.

I'd be all up for camping sometime.
As for wheelin next weekend, I'll be out of town fri-sun, but I'd love to go Monday......I may go look around Mott Lake sunday if nobody wants to go play at the dumps, just for something a little different.
I'll go and look around Mott Lake with you on Monday if I get the other D30 under the HEEP and it all put back together. I might not have time now though since I'm heading to the mountains. We would have to do it early on Monday though, so I can get home before the kids get off of school at 1500.
If I don't get the HEEP up and running I could meet you out there with the Dingo and ride with you if you have an open seat.
.........back to the "visual inspection around here"...
YES, if your cat is not observed in place under the vehicle, it will not pass inspection. I know this from last month's inspection on my '83 CJ. Make it legal, or make it look like it's legal and you won't have any problems. They don't sniff test here, but they DO make sure by year, that all equipment is in place....it sucks....

Matt, sounds good. If nobody wants to hit the dumps we can go try to find some new areas. Tank at GUC said that there is an offroad park here in Raeford that used to be only open to ATVs that is now open to Jeeps/full size rigs.....might see if I can find any info about that

Didn't somebody say something about that place (Sal?) Outback 4x4 or something?
Sarge_CJ2A

Yeah I remember mention of it a while back. I'm down for finding virgin trails... Or virgin to us anyway... :D
On the other side of 87 near the Overhills area there is not only power lines but also quite a few trails. I dont know any one to wheel with so I haveent been on any of the trails. I live near the area and have done some looking mainly using google maps. I know some of the area is still considered the FBNC Reserve but not all of it.
If you want to geta n idea of the area i am talking about look for nursery road after it crosses 87 or bragg blvd., just north of Spring lake. There is 2 poer lines that cross nursery road the first one leads to a few trails and the second one is just a very long poer line road.
Either way im pretty muchdown for exploreing. I normally dont like to go out because I dont want to get stuck out their by myself.
I am double locked and have a winch but something about being safer in numbers when you wheel.

I think this is the place they were talking about. I stopped by there about 2 years ago when I was looking for a place to take the 4 wheeler. They were closed, but I walked around and saw the MX track. I heard they were going to try to open up some trails for wheeling, but not sure if they ever have. Someone should call them and find out.

any talk of expanding?

The guy needs to talk to his partner.
several people have talked to this guy about expanding to Jeep trails as well as pledged support threw there groups and such. If he hasn't started expanding by now I doubt he ever will. Probably a waste of time messing around with this guy IMO.
