We're hoping to PCS to Tucson area this summer (yeah I know...it's either that or back to Omaha). What extra precautions/gear do you need for wheeling in extreme temperatures? I know what people need to survive out there but have no idea what the heat/dirt does to a Jeep or what mods are essential for desert wheeling. Appreciate the advice!

high temps makes any engine get hotter, take some extra water just for your jeep just in case and keep an eye on your temps. as for gear, have some kind of top over you to keep you brain from being baked, dress according to the temp and comfort, a little sweat can help you stay cool. if you plan on staying the night in the desert, have some warm clothes. the desert might be hot during the day, but can get cold at night. if you go run through the sand dunes, expect to be changing or cleaning your wheel bearings and such after you get back, a little bit of sand can do some damage. if you get stuck in the sand, don't mash the pedal! instead have something you can use as a flat wide base so you can drive up on (4 ft. long at least). kinda like a snow shoe on snow. best peice of advise....drink water

these might help

Shell, just left out of Scottsdale after 6 years of wheeling in the Sonoran desert.

Let me BEG you to carry extreme amounts of water with you.

I have seen temps in the 130's and humidity at less than 10%.

You will need most of the other stuff you carry in most areas with a FOCUS on water.

You MUST think SURVIVAL rather than I am just running out to spank a few trails. The desert can kill you in one day.

Check with the Army on desert training and survival. The rest is easy when you are alive.
