So I was out for a leisurely drive through southern New Hampshire on this crisp spring day and something followed me home.

OH no not another one!

That's right! put your windshield down and make yourself comfortable!

I see you have the newest copy of the Quadratec catalog - are you getting at something? Maybe you want me to replace the AstroTurf upholstery job you got stuck with.

Oh look, you have extra wheels! those may come in handy!
That's right, I bought a 1949 Willy's CJ2A today. The body and frame are in relatively good shape. It's been sitting a while so I'll need to clean or replace the fuel tank and put some extra TLC into it before it'll run again.

If ya have a 2A, you gotta have these guys in your computer!: http://walcks4wd.com/
And along with them, here's another forum for ya!! Great bunch of guys, and some great info: http://thecj2apage.com/forums/forum45.html
I just got new springs for our '46, hoping to roll the frame back in the shop soon!! Have to finish the 'Moab Prep' on my XJ first.

Thanks for the links! It looks like CJ2 owners are an even tighter group than jeepers in general which is kind of awesome.

I got home from National Guard drill and poked at my CJ2A for a little bit.

The blue astroturf came up out of the bed. I think I'll try to sandblast this part, then prime it and coat the interior with bed liner.
The bolts holding the roll bar seemed to turn just fine. Hopefully I wont have to drill them out.
One of the tailgate hooks had been bent closed in a way that would make it impossible to remove it without bending it back. I'll have to figure out how to bend it open again.
The tailgate hinge is rusted to crap. Not really sure what to do here outside of finding/making a new one.
The hood hinge has the same problem as the tailgate. I think I could rig something here and it would look fine though.
The key is seized in dash I think. Not 100% sure how I'll fix that short of removing the assy. and dunking it in PB blaster.

This is my super high tech carburetor.

Here's my engine block. I took tried to locate a serial but only found numbers after crawling underneath.
I took a photo but it didnt come out that well due to poor lighting. The number stamped on the bottom was 11-18 638832. I Don't really know what that means though.

Anyone interested in a radiator?

I finally got this heap of junk out of my CJ. Once I figured out where the bolts were it was pretty easy though they were absolutely covered in rust.
http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv69/sandbagger0/2011-04-10_13-34-42_359.jpg
Some jackass thought it would be a good idea to put an extra set of turn signals in front of the radiator then wire them into the wiring harness using an unshielded junction bolted to the inside of the engine compartment. So far these have proven incredibly difficult to remove. I've resovled that if I ever find the person who did this that I will cave in the side of their skull with a breaker bar.

That's the update so far! I've got the rollbar and heater removed for now as well. I'm not sure if I'll put it back on - I kinda like the rollbar free look.
looks like you have as much work on your willys as i do on mine! shouldn't take you long to get it up and going though, just remember to be creative.

So I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on the CJ as of late. The Wrangler needs work and so its a higher priority at the moment. This weekend was supposed to be bad weather and so I totally did not expect today with temperatures in the high 60s and sunshine.
I took the oppertunity to tear away some more at my CJ.
Firstly, the driver's seat came out. I had wrenched on the bolts holding it in place before with no success. Someone before me had used some steel plates to fashion a mount for his bucket seats. This time I just took a sawzall with the metal blade and just cut them in half. After that the driver's seat came right out. Then I removed the gas tank. The large screw in drain plug at the bottom of the tank made it difficult to remove but luckily the tank was bone dry except for fuel reside and sediment. I finally got the tank out.
http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv69/sandbagger0/Jeep%20Pics/2011-04-24_11-37-03_520.jpg
The gas tank was surround but dirt and other debris including a pair of new spark plugs in a box that disintegrated when I tried to pick it up. I swept out about 2 lbs of dirt and debris here.
http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv69/sandbagger0/Jeep%20Pics/2011-04-24_12-43-37_885.jpg
The gas tank was in surprisingly good condition. Only a small amount of surface rust on the bottom rear edge. I filled it with a quart of Acetone, sloshed it around a bit and put the tank away in my jeep shed. I'll let it sit for a day or so and then empty it.
http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv69/sandbagger0/Jeep%20Pics/2011-04-24_11-38-36_179.jpg
The shifter boot and the transmission cover came up after I cleaned around it. Whoever put it back last hadn't bothered to bolt it in place. It has what looks like "cadet grey" on the underside which leads me to believe that it came from a different source than my body tub.
http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv69/sandbagger0/Jeep%20Pics/2011-04-24_11-36-59_546.jpg
After a little cleaning, I took the wire wheel buffer + electric drill setup and ran it along the floor pulling up the surface rust and cleaning down to the bare metal. Anything that I couldn't get up with the buffer, I used my BF Screwdriver and a rubber mallet to loosen up.
http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv69/sandbagger0/Jeep%20Pics/2011-04-24_13-16-23_641.jpg
That's it for now. Next to remove the passenger seat. I'll probably need to grind off the bolts for this one. Then I'll be starting to look at removing the tub.

I got the body tub off today. I gave up on getting it off in one piece and used a grinder to cut it in half down the seam off the rocker panel.
I couldn't get the steering shaft to fit through the hole in the cowl/front floor so I disconnected the whole thing at the steering box and moved on. Most of the wiring that I couldn't disconnect I just went ahead and cut as I'll need to replace it later anyhow.
The bottom of the rear section of the tub isn't quite as good as I had originally thought and i'll probably have to replacing some more support channels back there as well. I'll post pics of that when I get a chance.

Here's the tub front and back bits. You can see the underside of the bed fairly well here.

I did some test painting today:
Anti-rust primer with zinc. It took a little work to get down to the shiny metal but I think now I could do the rest of the frame fairly quickly.
http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv69/sandbagger0/Jeep%20Pics/2011-06-06_18-35-46_457.jpg
I painted the radiator housing in my leftover black rust restorer paint and the cap with the gray primer.

This is the color I'm planning on painting the engine: kind of a light blue

That's it for now! Time to buy a gasket kit and let those head bolts soak up PB blaster.

A couple of my cylinders look a little dumpy. I'll have to figure out how to solve this.

I cleaned up the block a little bit today and had a look at the starter and the transmission. Some animal made a home inside the bell housing. The starter looks like it is in good condition and I gave it a fresh coat of engine enamel.
I also got the fan off but broke another bolt in the process.
looks good bagger, don't forget to lube the cylinder walls since you have the head off

I've been treating the cylinders with PB blaster about twice a week. Most of the rust in the 4th cylinder had dissolved and I've been able to scrape it out. I'll probably wire brush them and wipe them until the rust is gone.
saw you got a 2a congrats and i as well have one. the only difference between is mine is a 48 and every thing except the wire harness is original. but if needed i can give all the info i managed to dig up.

Cool! I have a '46! And a '47 parts rig. Somewhere down the line, the '47 got treated bad, had a sbc stuffed into it, different springs, 36" Ground Hawgs, etc.
The body is still solid, so we are using the tub to restore the '46.
