Hey anyone know if there is a Jeep/Off-Road club in or near Barksdale AFB, LA? I just got orders down there and would like to know.

I've wheeled with the LA4x4 club. They are a great group of guys but are located down near Baton Rouge. I believe the Louisianajeepers is in the Shreveport area. I've not wheeled with them but believe they are pretty active.

You'll be about 1 1/2 hours from the Barnwell Mountain Recreation area in Gilmer, TX. This is a great place to wheel and is run by an organization called the Texas Motorized Trails Coalition. You can find them at www.texasmotorizedtrails.com (http://www.texasmotorizedtrails.com). I'd recommend checking them out.

Have fun in cajun country...we did.

I am a member of LA 4x4. They are a good group of guys. I just got back form barnwell. It was our "evac location" on our way to Dallas. It was a good time, but my wife's jeep busted the centering kit out of the rear drive shaft and broke three teeth off of the front ring gear.

One rule for barnwell is if you arent on at least 35's and locked front and rear stay off of the 4 and 5 diamond trails. I hit allot of the 4's, but wouldnt go near a 5. My wife stayed on 3's but there are some underrated 3 trails so be careful.

Oh and there is two big events going on the next two weekends at Sicily Island which is to your east and about a 2 hour drive. I will be going to both I hope. If you want info let me know! See you on the trail.

My wifes TJ is locked in the rear, true track in the front, 33's, 3.5 RE lift, lots of skids, Nth TT and 4.56 gears and she was getting hung up on some of the 3 trails. My jeep didnt start getting hung up until I hit the harder level 4 trails.

It is allot of fun and you need two to three days to ride all the trails.

Soooo....did you hit Dewoody? Now that my Jeep is built pretty well I can't wait to get back and try it out.

Well, if Dewoody is the one I am thinking about, none of us would go on it. There was two seriously broken tube buggies on 60's and 42's and about thee on top and three on the bottom trying to get them off. I would have to find my map to know for sure. It was labeled a 5 diamond. There was allot I didnt get to do cause my buddy and his half tube stretched CJ on 38's broke a rear shaft and I didnt want to venture out on the hard stuff by myself. The wifes Jeep had already broke the day before, so our weekend was done early.

That was probably it. It's a 5+ rated trail with huge ledges to climb toward the top. Just a few years ago it was possible to get up on 35's with lockers. The last time I went it was pretty dug up and a guy on 38's couldn't make it without pulling the winch line. I'm sure it's pretty bad now.

As far as braking and ending the weekend early, I've been there too. I try and save the harder trails for the last day in case I brake. I've not been back to Barnwell in a long time so I'm excited to be headed back to that part of the country. I love that park.

Yeah barnwell is sweet, and I know that my buddy said the guys on 42's have to drag cable just to get to the top. It looked pretty menacing from the bottom. I'll be up there again when the next Hurricane comes through. :D
