Ok this is a long term goal of mine. I have noticed that so many of us "younger" vets do not get into the VFW or any vets orgs. There seems to be a real need in some areas. Sadly there alot of WW2 and korea/nam vets who do not get a decent burrial these days just plain do to the fact that theres not enough helpful people around.

When I was younger I was "forced" to learn how to play the trumpet:mad: and later while I worked at Gibson guitar I learned the gitfiddle to snuggle up to da girls:D but now I am endevering to pick up the bag pipes to basicly play at funerals vet's day parades ect so these boys get a little of what they rate.

It is going dam slow but I will get there.

If you gents have some free time( between family work ect I know it is short) maybe pop by what ever org you choose to acc. with and see if they could use a hand just making yourself known will brighten their days I find. Plus its a hella spot to network these old dogs know everyone whos anyone so there maybe some fringe benni's in there for ya also.

I know i tend to ramble but I hope who ever reads this gets my point that our service isn't quite over yet(if your out) theres still some guys out there that could use a hand from maybe offering to mow a lawn tojust listening to a story they do apprieciate us so don't forget them

I've been thinking the same thing for a while. I talked to my wife about checking out either a soldiers home or a VFW once every couple weeks when I get up to Delaware. Get to brighten someones day and hear some cool stories. Maybe I'll grab a 12 pack when I move up here and go listen to movie-type stories later.

I am pretty sure there is someone on NovaJeepers.com that plays the bag pipes around the DC area. I am sure yeti or one of the others that spend more time on that board can confirm and maybe give you the member name or contact info.

JR - BigWillys on NJ plays the Bagpipes for the cops.
Also have a former Marine that is with one of the MD County Police that plays the Pipes as we. If you need his contact info I can get it for you. For JR's you will have to wait till I get home for me to send him a message.

An idea to add to the mix... We volunteer with Honor Flight and welcome the WW2 veterans and assist with their visits to the WW2 memorial. Pretty neat stuff.

I would be happy to get together with any of these groups in NOVA as well. Great idea!
