So I wanted to build a CJ-5 in memory of my wife's grandfather. I also wanted to have room for my wife, daughter and I to wheel as a family.

Here is my plan, as it stands right now, but it always subject to change:
- Rear axle: Full width Ford 9", 5.13s, mini spool, and 31 spline axles
- Front axle: Full width Ford 9" with D44 inner-Cs and outers, 5.13s, and mini spool
- Engine: 4.2L from an '84 CJ
- Tranny: T-4 from an '84 CJ
- T-case: D300 from an '84 CJ
- Springs: 2.5" lift packs from an '89 YJ
- Shackle reversal
- Flat fenders
- 37s or 38s
- Cross-over steering
- Radiator, steering column, gauges, engine accessories, etc.. from the '84 CJ that the driveline is coming out of
- Full cage to protect me, my wife and our daughter
- Front and rear winches
- Full harness from Painless
- Repair the tub

Going to try to keep it as low slung as I can.

That's pretty much it for now.

Here are my starting pics. I haven't done anything except trailer it to my shop. I haven't even cleaned it out yet.

Also, here are some pics of the frame. I apologize for the poor lighting, but it's overcast this morning and my shop is kinda dark.

The first pic is the overall '84 CJ 7 donor frame. We aren't going to shorten it until we have the '62 tub ready to set on it for measuring.
The second pic is the rear Ford 9" hung SOA
The third pic the front Ford 9" in a custom housing. I still need to make main hangers and rear shackles.

- Switched to full width Chevy axles instead of Ford 9s. I got a screaming deal on the set of Chevy axles and they already 4.10s in them.
- Kept the stock intake, but put a Holley 4-barrel on it for now. It's only temporary since I am leaning towards converting the engine to propane.
- Got the Early CJ tub on the CJ7 frame. Going to start bracing the tub to cut and stretch
- Mounted my 37s I had laying around to at least get the frame level to measurement sake.

Here is a pic that is more recent:

Since I started this about 6 months ago, I wanted to bring everyone up to speed. I was recently given a fullsize Blazer with running gear and driveline still in it. So I am now going to pull the 4.2L and manual tranny for the Blazer 350 and TH350/205 combo. I am planning on going with the propane conversion still.

Sounds like an awesome plan. Being a family wheeler I found that going too tall is more of a pain than a blessing. I was high enough to have fun but not so high that they couldnt climb in. on top of that, my old Yj with 32's kept me sane enough not to try anything "korisu rated".

yeah, no doubt. that's why I"m leaning towards SUA and 36s now.
