I've had several multi-tools over the years and used most of the tools in the wrong way - using the file to pry something, etc and most of the tools broke. I sent the tool back to gerber, no receipt, no information as to how old it was, and just asked them if they would tell me how much it would be to fix it.

About a week and a half later I received a package - it contained a brand new gerber tool. I wasn't even expecting a phone call or a return letter with a estimate that quick, let alone a new tool no questions asked.

I've always liked their products over the leatherman products for various reasons, but their corporate team really impressed me as well.

I can't say I like Gerber all that much, I have broken four of them in the course of two years and two of them were broken in multiple places. It's usually breaking the pliers that renders my gerbers inop. I haven't been able to break any of my Leathermans pliers in all the years I have had them. I have 2 Leathermans currently (and I had one for 5 hard and abused years before them, but lost it), my Surge is my EDC and has been for the past 2 years, and my Wave was my EDC for 4 years and it's still great and hangs out in my glovebox and toolbox depending on where the last place it was used. I have only recently had my first break on my Leatherman and that's because I was using the awl to drill through a plastic coated steel barrel.

One thing I did like about the gerbers I was issued were the replaceable cutting blades, my the ones on my Leatherman are not interchangeable, and the metal is too soft for some of the things I have cut, leaving little semi-circle indents.
