So, I bought this YJ from buddy a few days ago. It needs work. Like crazy.

The bad (that I know of):

It has an electrical short that drains the battery when the truck is off.

The wires are a spiderweb.

The transfer case is broken, and no shifter for it was every installed, anyway...

The trans and friends are installed in such a manner as to make the x-fer case almost as low as the rear axle....great for driveline angles, but bad for wheeling.

The Good:

It cost me $2000.

The 350 runs and cranks very well, even in the cold, despite the holley carb.

The body is pretty damn straight.

Decent sound system installed. more stereo than I'd ever buy on my own, that's for sure.

The Plan (for now):

Installed a hard kill switch in the battery cable tonight, so I'm going to use that to procrastinate on the electrical shit.

Fix the transfer case. I don't want it to tear up the tranny.

Trans cooler lines are leaking. I need new ones.

Get the transfer case up between the damn frame rails.

Make a skid plate.

The damn thing's name is inspired by the fact that I've had to put everything I've bought for it on my Discover card. Gotta sell the TJ so I have a little extra money each month.

So, a list of things I could use right away to get this ball rolling a little faster:

functional driver side drop transfer case (preferably with no slip yoke, so I can avoid dealing with that when I install the damn drive shaft I need) that'll bolt to a 700R4 tranny.

A shifter for said transfer case.

a skid plate that fits (stock or otherwise for now).

If anyone around here has anything, let me know and I'll get back to you ASAP! Can't pay much, but I want this thing driveable so I can start trying to sell the TJ.

FN Jeep is your friend man....

They have a tendency to charge what things are actually worth, though...

I'll have to go by and check 'em out in person. might get a better deal that way.

u pull and pay.....if you are doing a 700R4 then do a Chevy/Jeep 231 transfer.....

will a jeep 231 bolt straight onto the trans? I have a chevy 241C on there right now. Broken as hell. you can hear the chain rattling around.

A 231 came on the chevy S-10 and the the chevey S-10 had a 700R4 transmission. It was a driver side drop. What you need to do is use the Chevy front half of the 231 case and then you use the jeep other half. When you building your transefer you can add strengh to the gear by adding a 241C 6 planetary gear set in and adding a wider chain. haop that works

functional driver side drop transfer case (preferably with no slip yoke, so I can avoid dealing with that when I install the damn drive shaft I need) that'll bolt to a 700R4 tranny. You're going to need the front half of an NP231C since the NP231J has a different bolt pattern. A clocking ring may be in order as well.

A shifter for said transfer case. This one is easy! Check this out...

So, I bought a 231j with an SYE this week for $200. Not too bad.

Now I gotta find the front half of a 231c with the right bolt pattern/input...anybody got one laying about? Might have to head to the pull and pay to find an old s10 or two to dig around under. Getting tired of it not having 4wd. esp with the pressure from the wife to sell the TJ.
