Just thought I would see who is in/around the Clovis NM area, maybe see if I could get some legit info about the area. I have already heard it sucks, but c'mon I am at Minot so I am used to the suck. Looks like I will be leaving Minot and headed there sometime in April.

Haven't been there in like 20 years... '85-'90. Warmer than Minot. There are things to do you just have to go do them. Mountains in Northern NM are nice, couple of good trails up there around Angel Fire and Red River.

Closest club to you is over in Amarillo, TX http://www.jeepexclusive.net/ They put on an annual event that is a blast. http://www.facebook.com/events/141416899233782/

thats good info, thanks Bob. I am so happy you didnt just say it sucked there, besides the last four bases I have been to are exactly what I have made out of them.

You have been to for bases in five years?

I have, but its pushing seven years now. My goal is to make 10 bases in 20 years, and Korea only counts once.

Lifes to short to sit and whine about where you are, so many of the airman that worked for/with me over the years would just sit in the dorms and whine. I had a couple good friends, that would pay for gas - as I was making a truck payment and insurance = broke... We were gone most weekends doing something. Lots of great place to explore in NM. I would get with the Amarillo crew, they are fairly active and close 100 miles or so. Trust me, that's close when you are talking about Clovis. :)

Im here now what afsc are you? For the most part there isn’t a lot of scenery locally all flat farmland and lots of tumble weeds. You have to go about an hour or so to get to anywhere to wheel. There are people here that would probably make up a 4x4 club but there is not one formed that i know of. Also there isn’t much of a selection for 4x4 mechanics there is one transmission/driveline shop that does good work then one or two general mechanics that know what they are doing on a wheeling rig. Housing on base is in the middle of being revamped so housing wait list is about a month. There is military housing in clovis and portales and one outside the gate. One bar in each of those towns. No alcohol sales on Sunday except on base. There are some nice new areas but the majority of the area has dated homes. What other info would you like.

I need to get on here more. I met a couple hardcore 4x4 guys here. Canyon River is a blast and this is coming from someone who has wheeled some awesome stuff. There is a guy in Clovis with a shop that is super nice and has some neat stuff. I bought 20 acres in Portales which is just south of the base. I'm slowly building a shop out of my barn. Hit me up on Facebook, I check it more. Message me when you friend me, Jordan Gelinas, should be easy to find me. WJon35s, dude, you missed a hellova trip a few weeks ago, you should hit me up on FB too, I lost your number. I got some awesome video and the ZJ surprised the hell out of a lot of people, including me! I brought down some of my FSJ from Indiana, gonna build a truggy out of my J10. That monster Willys truck that sits on prince street is pretty legit, its not just a big engine and tires.

Man that sucks i missed it but my jeep still cant make it very far still anyways. I picked up a 242HD TC with SYE from a guy on jeepforums.com just waiting for it to get here so in the next few weeks my jeep should be good to go again. I will hit u up on FB and i always wondered about that truck on prince st it looked like it would be badass.

@ WJon35S (http://www.militaryjeepers.com/community/member.php?7723-WJon35S) Well I wont be living on base, and right now in Minot I have to drive almost two hours to get anywhere worth putting it if 4Lo. No worries there. I wont be living on base housing I am on the fence about whether or not to buy or rent, the BAH there is crap.

@ Jeepin87 (http://www.militaryjeepers.com/community/member.php?6887-Jeepin87) that reminds me I have a 51 Willys sitting at my brothers shop in OK that is just dying to be built back up.

I am pretty sure, I wont be any more disappionted with Cannon than I was with Minot.
