So I started the process to replace my stock roll cage with a Poison Spyder Full Cage.

Getting started

Jeep shot epoxy all over the bolts behind the seats on the floor. Such a PIA to scrape off.

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n89/benestj/DSC04568.jpg

Was making good progress until this happened! Only Torx bit I don't have a backup for. FML!
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n89/benestj/DSC04569.jpg

So hopefully tomorrow I can get the rest banged out. http://www.beltway4wd.com/forums/images/smilies/animated/clap2.gif

So as I was about to claim victory over the mighty Torx bolt! http://www.beltway4wd.com/forums/images/smilies/animated/clap2.gifhttp://www.beltway4wd.com/forums/images/smilies/animated/boxing.gif

This happened. http://www.beltway4wd.com/forums/images/smilies/animated/brick.gif

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n89/benestj/DSC04570.jpg

So now I have to figure out how to remove that. Only F'ing bolt holding me back from removing the stock cage. Used the grinder, more PB blast, and channel locks. Came out pretty easy after that.

Well got the old cage out, and have the new one in for a test fit. Damn thing is 1/2" off at the top of the windshield. http://www.beltway4wd.com/forums/images/smilies/animated/frusty.gif

So now I need to call PSC.

glad you got it out, we had to weld a nut on one stripped torx then used a rachet. Same deal on the windshield frame- Contact PS and see what they say about it looks like something is off, they are good people I've heard.

Yeah I am waiting for a call back. Guy is out to lunch. I have been F'ing with this thing for a couple days on my days off, and while the kids are in Cali. Maybe beer will help me figure it out. Also I have never had an issue with PSC, they have always been good folks.

Yeah Rick has been cool, and I am digging the cage. Just need to figure out a color to paint it. They have the KOH later next week so it will get worked out soon.

Did not think about that, and will have to add that to list. Was thinking about gray, and the wife suggested OD Green.

Finished my PS Cage install " Cage Install thread " a couple months ago and had an issue with mine also. DS tab that mounts to the windshield frame was turned to far and no way to fix it other than cut it off and re-weld it back on so instead of 4 bolts mounting it to the windshield frame, I only have 3. Love the cage tho. . .

That is about the same issue here, but passenger side. Also the A pillars are bent backwards, and no matter how hard I try I cannot get them to line up either. Even using a strap between the cage and my truck hitch.

J- that things looks good man! I think the OD would look cool on it. I just used the rustoleum bedliner on my fenders and rockers and I really like it. might think of using it where you are strapping things to it to keep from slipping around or on the hand holds for grip. Are you going to pad it?

Full cage is a good decision bro. I know many jeepers that has had their lives saved by investing in a fall cage. Surprisingly many of them involved non offroad accidents.

Thanks Cutter. Eventually it will be tied into the frame. Just trying to get one in it right now. Working with Rick and I am sure it will get figured out.

So here is my update.

After talking to PSC, they had me take the Jeep to a PSC dealer down in F'Burg. Extreme Inc. Good dude that owns it. Well I loaded it up on the trailer and took it down there. Dropped it off after talking to Steve the owner of Extreme Inc. and headed home. Got a call from PSC telling me to go pick it up, take it out, and get it ready for UPS to pick it and ship it back. They are going to send me a new one. I told the guy at PSC that I have been more than patient, and that he had me wasting my time and diesel. He said don't worry and " I am gonna hook you up with a smoking deal". My question is on what? I'm not paying for shipping or shit to do with this cage. They filed a damaged in shipping claim so it is going to be sent back to them by UPS. He told me he was gonna hook me up I just had to be patient. So I am in waiting wondering WTF?

To add insult to injury...... The Jeep does not want to stay running. Starts fine, drives fine, but when it drops back to about idle it dies.

March 4th

So........ Um Yeah.. Talked to PSC and they filed a claim for the cage being damaged in shipping. Waiting on a check from PSC or UPS to get it all Un F'ed. After I get it out and all packed up to ship back, now I have to wait on this check and take it all back to the guy down here to have it fixed. Pretty fricking upset at this point.

That bites. Sure hope they take good care of ya!

Hard to say what happened, sometimes the shippers (like UPS, Fed-ex, etc.) throw stuff around, and don't really care about damage.

I can see something like a cage getting bent out of whack by some fork lift driver who's late for coffee.

Best of luck man

I am unsure guys. Like I said this really has me pissed. As it is right now I am about to come out of pocket to get it fixed, because I can't drive it. Really don't have the time or disposable income to be ****ing around with this. That is whole reason for buying a fully welded cage. That and my welding skils are not that good to do a cage. The first part (BFH Bumper) I bought I had no issues with. I just liked this cage.

Should just get the one that needs welded and have armyvet91 weld it together at the harley shop in manassas. hes great at welding and built my front bumper. names earl. hes a great guy.

Rob my wife purchased it for Christmas. She knew not to trust my welds, and that is why she purchased it fully welded. :D Regardless I am still waiting for some kind of word. It has been two weeks since I last spoke to them.

Holy Crap Marinedawg, it has been going on 2 months with this thing . . . I would be on the phone at least once a day about getting that thing to my house and installed by some professional for free or something . . .damn, can't be that hard for a company like that to ship a new one out to you the same day and have the shipping paperwork sent to send the other back . . damn, 2 months . . . .

Sucks, this isn't the first, second, or even third thread I have seen about poor service from PS recently. Hope they get you taken care of. I was going to order one of these cages a while back, but this is the third story I have heard about holes not lining up or things being off when people try to install them.

Called yesterday and left a message for the person I have been dealing with. Did not receive a call back yesterday.

2 months of dicking around, I'd be pissed too!

Any chance of fighting it through the credit card company? (if you used a CC)

That's just BS!! They may be busy getting ready for EJS, but that's no excuse for dropping the ball on a customer satisfaction issue.

Talked to Rick today and I will get a T-shirt and half-ass not full refund out of it.

Are you still going to get the Cage shipped back to you when ever they get done screwing around ?

Doppler
03-23-2012, 10:55
I'd take the partial refund, sell the cage for the difference of what you have in it and go with another brand! I only use parts from companies I can brag on when it comes to my Jeep, only exception is the PSC front stinger bumper cuz I bought it used! I also try to use local fabricators to help get their names out there to the rest of the offroad community. Good luck with the rest of the fight Marine!

After speaking to Rick from PSC, and both of us having a chance to explain from our perspectives what was going on, this issue has been resolved amicably.

Part of the issue was UPS, not doing their part. They did not contact either one of us to let us know where things were at. They were supposed to come out and inspect the cage and didn’t. They waived the inspection and didn’t let either one of us know. This was part of the reason for the lack of communication between PSC and me.

Rick went out of his way to help me out, and did not have to go out of his way to do what he did.

As it stands the cage is at a local PSC dealer who is going to fix it. Rick even volunteered his help in assisting with this phase as well. Again he does not have too.
