View Full Version : Fort Drum Jeepers...
Hey, I KNOW I've seen some nice rigs rolling around Ft. Drum... I'm a former soldier, now contractor working on post with the signal guys. Right now I'm deployed to Iraq/Afghanistan, but I'd love to make some more contacts and jeeping buddies in the area... possibly even start up a club of some sort. I know the deployments have everyone short on time, but why not make the most of it when we're back. So sound off or PM me if you're in the area, tell your buddies... heck make a flyer to stick under the wipers of some nice a$% jeep you see parked along the street. Lets get some attention for this great site. I know I've seen at least a dozen lifted or modified TJ's, YJ's, CJ's... heck I've even seen a couple of XJ's and I know I talked to one dude that was planning on working on his ZJ. So lets get it together... and hey... Who knows maybe the mods will even give us a little space here of our own!

Sure thing buddy. You can set up a specialized group for just drum jeepers. I know that Treefrog is also deployed over there with the 10th, so keep an eye out for him.

I was at Drum from '96 to '03. Left there to go to CRC in Korea. I know when I was there, there were a ton of lifted jeeps. Hell, I helped build a lot of them in the Drum Auto Hobby Center. Not sure what I can do from here in PA to help, but let me know!

Open Paragon back up.:D Just kidding, thanks for the reply. Hope to get my frame-off rebuild done ASAP and come down to wheel Rausch Creek!
I lived in PA almost my entire life... never wheeled paragon... Such a loss!
Anyway, I'm here for over a year... Actually the unit I'm supposed to support isn't even over here yet... I meet up with them in January and I'll stay for their year. But when I get back... It's off to Rausch Creek!!!
So there's your timeline UsedGum... about a year and a half... HAHAHA... J/K... really though, whatcha restoring?

Hey, we link (http://www.militaryjeepers.com/content/main/sites-that-link-to-military-jeepers.shtml) to your site. :)
You are always free to hang around MJ for a little bit and get to know some of the people from the Watertown area. Plus you may be able to answer any questions someone may have that may be on orders for Drum.
Thank you. There is a link to this site on mine too and i will try my best to answer any questions this is my 2nd time here i was here from 95-2000 got back in 2007 same company too...LOL
If you have ?'s email me at northcountrykrawlers@hotmail.com or ssdkmd1@hotmail.com (ssdkmd1@hotmail.com)
As more people join up, you will probably see posts about people heading your way. It will be a good chance to introduce them to your club and let them know what is available up there.

I think it is a great idea. I live in B'ville and would make the trip up there for meetings and rides.
Be safe and keep your head down!
Looks like we may have some interest... I'm over in Afghanistan now. But I should be home next year. I plan on setting up a few trail rides and trying to find some more trails.
So far there's some trails on and around Drum (not sure about legality issues there). I know there's Washington Park area down behind adams (needs a little more jeep friendly trails since the ATV guys cut all the trails. It's alot of mud and swampy areas with a little bit of rocks.
Anyone else have any good areas to chime in with?

I'm moving to Drum in August and am interested in off-roading in that AO
Howdy! I was at drum for my first enlistment. Was there with crazy4ink actually. Ended up living in Baldwinsville near syracuse, before heading down here to Oklahoma. There's some decent wheeling on the range up near OP 20. We had fun hittin the back side of the range. Haven't been there since 01 so things might have changed by now!

This is Joe (badjeep2006) from team extreme. With the amount of Jeeps I have seen around Fort Drum, I believe we should try and start a Jeep club in the area. I think if we come up with a name and have some cards made, we can leave them on peoples Jeeps. I have a couple of web domains and would be happy to make a website for a club. Let me know if you are interested. I get back next month and would love to try and get a club going.

I've been out of the loop for a while, but I'm still around.
Just to let y'all know, it is illegal to wheel on Fort Drum or on any of the land on the outside of the fence that borders post. There is a policy letter stating so.
Does it still happen? Yes, but I've gotten too old to be caught doing illegal stuff and I don't need to be "that guy".
On another note, I've noticed a lot more Jeeps running around post with a winch on the front. Do yourself a favor before the snow starts and get yourself a cover for it. Trust me. Nothing worse than having a winch you can't use cause your cable is in a block of ice.
Got to go put my CB back in and tune it.
See y'all around.

Good to be back Chris. I'm glad the site is doing so well. Seems like just a couple of weeks ago I was meeting y'all down at Belvoir and you were telling me about the site you just started. I think when I registered I was member number 38 or something like that.
There is a whole new batch of Jeeps up here now that have not been here through a winter yet. You can tell because they don't have any rust on them yet. Rust sucks. I'm gonna run mine until the frame buckles though.
See you around.

Enjoy that snow wheeling buddy. I dropped my TJ and got a CJ. Now I have to watch for rust like a hawk.
If you're ever running within a couple hours of my AO, make sure you drop me a line. Beers on me.

Nothing wrong with a CJ. I had a 5 for about 5 years. I beat the crap out of that thing and sold it when I was PCSing to MD. The guy I sold it to T-boned a Dodge PU about a week later in it. The Dodge ran the light. It was sad to see the Jeep I had owned for 5 years totaled so soon after I let it go.

I know this is an old post, but any Drum wheelers up for making a "Snow" run in Feb.?

Don't think of as an old post. Think of it more as a running Fort Drum post.
There are a whole bunch of Jeeps on post. I just usually see them going down the road though and don't get to talk to any of them.
When and where are you looking to go? Not saying I can make it, but I'll try to get the word out.

Not sure where to go. This is my first winter here...and i haven't been wheeling in years... but i want to get out and meat local jeepers doing what we love to do the most

Your best bet would be to link up with some of the locals.
http://teamxtremeoffroad.tripod.com/ is located around the Watertown area.
http://cnyjeep.org is centered around the Syracuse area.
There are a few more groups around, but these are the closest that I know of.
There are not a lot of legal options up here. Wheeling on post is a no-no. It's not worth getting caught.
What are you driving?

I am driving a mostly stock 89 XJ with a 4.0 AW4 AND 242 t case, I am not sure what axles are in it, but from my research they don't seam to be stock... I know the front is a Dana 30 without the Vacuum Disconects, and the rear is either a dana 35 or Dana 44... it feels like it has a LSD in the rear... but not sure. If my tow package came from the factory then I have a D44 with LSDs
I am not new to Jeeps, 4Wheeling, or the Military. I know wheeling on post is a no no... with out the proper permits... which are easy to obtain... just get an on post hunting and fishing license, and talk to range control before you leave. But my plan is to stay away from Post... My off time is my away time... I go back to post on my weekends very seldom...
Any life from the Jeepers at Drum or is everyone deployed. I will be getting up there around the 1 June. I will be down in the Pulaski area in two weeks though. I'll be staying there until I close on my house up outside of Watertown. I just notice there isn't much activity from the Jeepers at Drum, so I am guessing that you guys are mostly deployed.

Most of us that are around are out enjoying the beautiful spring weather and getting our jeeps muddy.. or in my case, getting it trail ready.

Does anyone know of the offroad club that a guy owns off of route 11. His house is midway between ft drum and watertown on route 11. he's got a few lifted chevy's and i think a red lifted tahoe(unless he sold it by now). I think his name is Dan, but not sure. There are some good guys in that club.
I'll be pcsing there in about 10 months, so i want to get back in touch with a few of these guys.

what are the trails like in the area? I'm PCS'ing there in September
trails? I left there in 01 (Drum) and then left Syracuse in '05 and there wasn't a legal place to wheel for a long ways. There was a little place that was more suited for ATVs and Bikes, that you could take your jeep on. Hopefully, there has been some development since I left the area.
