Plans are as follows:
Chevy 6.0 SFI
GM 4L80E
Atlas 5.0
Dana 60 front w/ 5.38 and Detroit
GM 14b Rear w/ 5.38 and Detroit
4-link front and rear
Coilovers
108" wheel base (or as close as I can)
Hydro assist Steering
Comp cut rear and High line custom front fenders
Custom Cage
Custom center console with heater ducting to the rear.
Seats (undetermined) w/ 4 point harness
Autometer guages
Depending on funding or how bored I get with the build, it may get an underdrive of some sort.

looks like you have a great build plan laid out. What donor did the engine/tranny come out of? It looks like whoever pulled it took their time and didn't butcher the harness. Did you also get the ECM?

Came out of a 2004 Chevy 2500, and yes I got the ECM...there wasnt anything I didnt get..As for the harness, it is completely intact..they cut all the hoses and cooling lines though, and they cut the line for the electronic shift on the tcase(wont be using it anyways)....

I'm banking that it will......Ok hit me....I'm ready.........
Maybe give me something to dream about tonight, as I mentally cruise vehicle graveyards looking for a steal.
That's a pretty sweet build. I'll be in the market for a new project just after the first of the year. My Jeep is almost as done as it's going to get, so it's time to start looking for one for the boy. He's 12 now, so he and I have just about 4 years to get a nice Jeep built for him. Plenty of time and fun, fun, fun. Nothing says father and son time like a nice Jeep build.

The tear down will start tommorrow morning after I order my Atlas. I am going to try and get as much done of the teardown as I can. I am off until Monday, so if I get my other stuff in this week, I may get the motor and tranny in it this week also, then I can start on getting it running and then go from there...
And yes, most parts are spoken for, if I have any left, I will post em for sale...

Well, I got a little more done yesterday.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2294.jpg
Didnt work on it at all today, left around lunch to go and pick up some new toys I found.....
Millermatic 200, with full bottle of gas, guage, welding helmet, 2 pairs of gloves, 2 40lb spools of wire, and a bunch of extra stuff...$750. Its 20 years old, but is in friggin mint condition and welds perfectly...
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/100_2295.jpg
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/100_2296.jpg
Also picked up this Drill Press from the same guy. Its old, but has a brand new 3/4hp motor on it and is 1/2" chuck size. Has a swivel table that also will change angles...The table will also drop to the ground if needed...$100
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/100_2297.jpg
Will get back to work on the Jeep tommorrow...hopefully will get the rest of the tear down complete, and maybe the body lift on it....

Well, I got more accomplished today.....
Got the front axle removed:
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/100_2300.jpg
Then I got the rest of the interior and the roll bar out(I friggin hate torx bolts).
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/100_2303.jpg
Then I called a buddy up and he brought his plasma cutter:
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/100_2298.jpg
First time ever using one, and I tell ya, it made life wonderful:

10-28-2008, 22:20
well I got a few "little" things out of the way, like removing the rear links and sway bar connections, the steps and rear fender flares, and got the dash out so I can get it boxed and sent to Redline Guages in CA.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2308.jpg
I also finished removing the rest of the trash from the inside of the tub..
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2309.jpg
Here is a pic of the old man using the plasma
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2310.jpg
We didnt get all the cutting done because I had to return the plasma cutter to its owner, but I will get it back in a couple of days. Hopefully this weekend I can get the motor sitting in. I will finish grinding the frame on the front tommorrow so I can get the motor mounts tacked on friday.....

10-29-2008, 15:13
Well, I got some bling in a day early.......

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2313.jpg
Now I guess I have to get out there and really start grinding.....
jeepNfool
10-31-2008, 14:07
I got a little bit done today, was going to try and get the body lift, all the grinding, and motors done, but decided I didnt feel like working on it..Anyways, I didnt put the body lift on because I am not sure about the rear. I am going to cut the frame off and move it in w/o the ridiculous hump. What I am wondering about is should I take the frame up to the body with the original body mounts, or go ahead and add the BL in there also? The only reason for the BL is for tranny and motor clearance.
Anyways, here are a few pics of the gas tank removed..nothing big..
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2314.jpg
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2316.jpg
and this is what happens when the dog is around, and I am laying down trying to take pics.....
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/Daisy/100_2317.jpg
I also took some pics of the pass side motor mount from AA clamped in place...here is the little hole they tell you to use and their "dowel"...
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2318.jpg
Here is the mount clamped in place....I didnt tack it yet because I want to clean the frame in the area and paint it...It actually sits further back towardds the firewall than the stock mount for the 6cyl..
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2319.jpg
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2320.jpg
Here are some ruff measurements I took also...From the lip on the firewall to the mount is ruffly 11"...
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2321.jpg
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2322.jpg
The instructions from AA tel you to clearance this area, which I will do, so I took some measurement from the other side of the lip as if it was clearanced and came up with a little over 14"
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2323.jpg
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2326.jpg
I guess if I get motivated enough, I will go out and try to get the grinding done, or I may just wait until I get my friends plasma back and try to do a little better job getting the brackets off...I just hate working on chit by myself....
jeepNfool
11-11-2008, 23:08
Well, My father in law came over today, and we got alot done.. Got all the brackets cut off the frame, got about 95% of it grounded off, and the got the motor mounts tacked on. We also got the body lift installed and have the motor sitting on the jeep. We had to do some firewall clearing, and afterwards decided to call it quits.
Heres the frame and motor mounts:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/tjbuild005.jpg

Well, I got a few things accomplished yesterday. We got the frame notched so that the ac compressor would fit, and the motor will sit into the mounts.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/100_2342.jpg
Had to let it cool after cutting it (I know, looks like shit, but will be cleaned up and boxed) so we decided to go spend the rest of the day picking up my 1 tons

And yes, it tooks us awhile to get the truck out from behind several other vehicles, and then get it somewhere we could load it. It was then a PITA to get it loaded because it had to go over the fenders and all we had was a winch....it truely sucked...
Those tires on that truck are still in good shape too. What TCase are you planning on running with the PSD?
jeepNfool
11-16-2008, 15:18
I have an atlas 3.8 on order. I am not using the tires, those are only 39.5 TSL's. I have a set of 42 Iroks on order.
jeepNfool
11-16-2008, 18:47
Well, ITS IN!!!!! I got the motor set in finally. It was a PITA doing it by myself. I finally had to loosing the block bolts on the motor mount and then place the bolt through and tighten the block bolts back up, but it worked and is siiting on its own
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2343.jpg
Also thought I would take a picture of how much the tranny hangs below the frame. The trans is level, and hangs down this much.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2344.jpg
Not sure what I am going to tackle next. I may pull those axles and start on that, or maybe cut the frame on the rear of the jeep. I am not sure if I want to set my gears up on the axles yet, will probably wait until all the welding is done, then do them. I need to order my fuel cell, coilovers, and tube so I can keep moving, but money tree is bare atm..

Well, went over to a friends today and helped him build a truss on my 14 bolt. It turned out damn good. I was pretty much the go-fer and did some grinding. He designed it, cut it, and welded it because my skills are very lacking in that area.

Well not much building going on, but I did score a few new items over the weekend..
I traded my new dana 60 detroit for a used OX from a guy around the corner from me...I figured it was worth it for a selectable even though it was used.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2408.jpg
Then, I found a guy that was getting rid of a Miller spectrum 375 plasma, so I traded him my honda eu2000i generator, AND his wife drove 6 hours to make the trade and used the excuse to visit a cousin...

They are BTF comp corners and rocker guards. Overall fitment is "ok". I will have to modify the front edge of the rockers so they dont stick out past the body seeing how I wont be running the stock fenders. I will say they are pretty beefy and heavy as hell. The only other things I am disappointed in is that for the price you pay for these they only supply the exact number of bolts, so dont friggin loose one, and the holes that are by where the stock B-pillar would be require you to cut the interior of the body to use the short bolts they supply. I am assuming they dont supply the proper length bolt for this area because if you start cranking down to tight, it may cave the area a little.
So on a scale of 1-10, I would give them an overall rating of 7 due to the fitment, bolts, and the modification I have to do...

Well, Grayson came over today and we put the tires on the rear axle, then rolled it under the jeep...This is close to where I am going to put the rear axle. I will probably bring the front axle in about 6 more inches. As it sits now, it is around 130 inch wheelbase lol. I will probably end up with somewhere between 115 and 120 inch wheel base.

Well I got some new, not so bling, bling in today.... 2 of my coilovers from F-O-A came in. 16" triple rates.. Will probably order 2 more this weekend when my tubing bender sales...They are beefy as hell, and I have heard nothing but good things, so I can wait to try them out... I could not see spending the ridiculous amount for the other brands..

Well, I got some more goodies in today from Ballistic Fab. I have to say, this stuff is beefy as hell and heavy. Not the best looking stuff, but also not the most expensive out there either. Kinda like the FOA coilovers I got, they arent fancy, but they work and are cost effective...
Anyways here are the D60 arms:
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2633.jpg
Upper and lower link frame end brackets:
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2632.jpg
Coilover brackets:
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2630.jpg
And the D60 truss and diff cover. This thing is HEAVY, not to impressed with the fitment though. The ring and diff cover itself does not line up real good at all because of it not being a straight consistant edge, leaves a hole at the top and bottom between the cover and ring that will take a considerable amount of welding to fill in. For what this cost, I thought it would be a little better than it is. The lines running angled to the right between the skull and plug, and the plug and edge are actual gouges like someone took a grinder wheel and ran it across there. There are a few other areas on it that are gashed also:

Well, a friend came over yesterday and we started on a tranny mount and it was finished today.
Before we could do anything, we slapped the Atlas on, but before we could do that, we needed to modify the jeep so the atlas would work:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/tikitgvr2/TJ/100_2654.jpg

Well, after flip flopping a hundred times from jeep to buggy and to jeep, I finally made a decision. I decided to go ahead and have some of both worlds and do a Juggy. He are a few pics of what we did. First pic is a buddy of mine going at the jeep with a sawzall. Then the start of my cage. I decided to go ahead and remove the dash to do the a pillar and will reinstall it afterwards. I also bought some after market gauges for the dash that I am waiting on.

Well, I got me some new bling today...... I had a guy trade me striaght across, a set of steering rockwells, for a set of tons. As you can see, rocks are already mohawked and have pinion brakes set up on them. The hidden fact is that they are also spooled front and rear. The other thing is he traded me the 4 MRW beadlocks with the rock rings already on them for my stock 8 bolt H1's. These came with some pvc inserts that he said are for them being double beadlocks. I looked at them, but without breaking them down, I can not tell but it doesnt look like they are. If so, then even better.

Well, I got the one for the rear broke down and unloaded off of the trailer today. The ujoints are friggin huge, I love it. The oicture is a 16oz monster can next to it for size comparison. Anyways, after getting the center section out, I found that it was in fact NOT spooled. Also, it looks like it might have been rebuilt a while ago and never had oil in it. It deffinately had water though. I will be breaking down the other one next weekend. I think it might actually be spooled because when we tried to roll it, each tire would not turn independently of each other.

Well, I managed to get a few things done over the weekend. First off, I broke down the other axle. Good news is, it is welded as is the rear, so I was wrong on that. Bad news is that it has the undesirable axle shafts, so I will be trying to find some used ones to get. My self and my father in law got the cage started also. Got the A and B pillars done and tacked together. I am hoping next weekend there will be alot more progress.

Just thinking about trading it for something already built. I dont have the money right now to finish it so I am getting frustrated. I just want to see what is out there that ppl would trade and then go from there. I may keep it if nothing shows up that interests me..

Well, got a little more accomplished today. I finished gutting the inside, cut out the tunnel and raised the motor up ALOT. IN the pics you can see that the stock truck oil pan now sits less than an 1" below the frame. Had to build new motor mounts to accomplish it. Also, I will be cutting the hood to aloow for the height of the motor, but it will be caged, so I can sheet the cage to cover it up. I actually took this from a build on pirate4x4.
