I had ordered some bumpers from an online 4x4 shop and was telling a buddy about them. He said to try to cancel the order if I could and get the bumpers from Ground Pounder Fab.

As it turned out, I ordered the bumpers from Eddie at Ground Pounder and found out that he would be retiring from the Army only a few weeks after my order was placed.

He does great work and the bumpers are awesome. The prices also beat out most of the "big guys" prices. you can see some of the bumpers he put in his ebay store at http://www.groundpounderfab.com or email him (which is probably the best way to go) at GROUNDPOUNDERFAB@VERIZON.NET

You basically tell him what exactly it is that you want and he gives you a great price. Tell him you are military, that always seems to be a good thing...especially when buying from a veteran.

I got a front bumper with a winch mounting plate, a stinger, stock light mounting brackets and 2 one inch clevis mounts.

I also got a rear bumper with 2 one inch clevis mounts, a 2 inch receiver, swingout tire carrier and a jack mount and heavy duty frame tie in brackets along with all the grade 8 hardware I needed to install the bumpers.

Both bumpers cost me less than a rear bumper with a swing out that I was looking at online and based on the reactions of people that have seen them, they are pretty nice and the welds look like little dimes.

Just some info I thought I would pass on. Once I get my lift installed soon, I will post up some better photos and you can see the front and rear bumpers. The photos I have now a from a few mods ago.

He's not kidding. Eddie's rear swing out is on my to buy list. It is an awesome piece of fabrication, looks amazing, and functions awesome. It's heavy duty, and he threw in a frame tie in kit, I know it has a hi-lift mount.

Miljeep:
Did it have a jerry can and/or cb antenna mount?

miljeep

you can get one when you order it. I did not get one at the time, but since I have a gerry can heading my way, I am thinking of getting the mount. He really takes care of the military folks that order through him and I was not disappointed at all with the purchase.

What kinda prices are you guys getting on these things. I'm in the market for a rear tire carrier/bumper right now myself and Eddie keeps popping up in searches, but never with prices :)

I'd pm him. BESRK (http://www.militaryjeepers.com/community/member.php?u=89)

Edit: I got mine for V-day, love it.

I just sent him this message...

Hello, I'm VERY interested in your bumpers as you come so highly recommended from our great members here. Is there any way you could email, PM, or post a list of prices with pictures? I think you'll find a lot more messages headed your way with similar questions... thanks in advance Sir, GREAT work.

Don't think he'll take to being called "Sir" :D, but he's usually very good at checking his messages two or three times a day. If you want I can email you some pics of mine

Kinda what I was looking for myself, pics and prices. Been looking at LoD and Rockhard, but Eddie's name keeps popping up as well.

Edit: Thought I had more, I'll take some more when it's light out tomorrow. I'll take some in depth ones so that you can see the design.

Nice. Very similar to the other "big names" out there. How do you like the release handle on it? Come bare steel to you?

korisu56
05-24-2008, 20:43
Yes, it came in bare steel. I really like the release handle. It's very snug, and is adjustable. I really like that it's made to order and that you can get gerry can mounts, hi lift mounts, etc. Plus, I can always go back and say i'd like a mount and it'll get sent to me. It has a bigger spindle than other bumpers I've seen. I have a 35x15 on the back now, and the only time i had a rattle was because I didn't tighten the lug on it. I also like how it comes with a frame tie-in kit.

The hardest part of assembly was waiting for the paint to dry :)

Eddie is a GREAT guy, I also say order from him. I did and do not regret it one bit. Great prices and he makes sure you get exactly what you want. then ships it at a great price. Im very happy with my dealings with eddie and groundpounder fab all together. Two thumbs up for service and prices :)

I ordered my front and rear bumper from him back in Oct. Great guy that even provided his own phone support when we were stumped during one part of the install. I suggested something and it appears as though it was added into future designs. Nice bumpers and great prices.

Here is a page about his information and the military discount he will offer up. His bumpers were such a great price, I did not even use the military discount because I felt kind of bad.

I honestly think that I will be ordering front and rear bumpers from him in the near future. They look great, and the prices can't be beat as far as I can see.

robplumm
05-25-2008, 20:47
well I placed an order for a rear with the side protection and antenna mount today. Can't wait to get the thing in. Arm and a leg to ship it out here...but price was still more than in line with others I looked at even with them offering free shipping. So those of you closer to VA, it'll be an even better deal. Plus it's supporting a fellow Soldier...:)

I'll get pics up when it gets in and installed, mid June or so.

Are ZJ bumpers on the drawing board? please?

Are ZJ bumpers on the drawing board? please?

Not at the moment.. sorry.

I started this bumper thing unintentionally.. built one for myself.. then one for a friend.. then another.. and so on. That was about 6-7 years ago. Since I mainly hang out in the "Short Jeep" circles, I do TJ/YJ/CJ bumpers. Those rigs all use the same bumper blank.. just the mounts are different. That helps me knock them out in a timely manner. I can crank out a TJ/YJ/CJ bumper pretty quick. About 2hrs for a basic front bumper, 2hrs for a basic rear bumper (no carrier) and about 7hrs for a rear w/carrier if I eat lunch at the welding table. My wife and I run a simple "assembly line" setup in the shop and are able to balance all the numbers to pay the bills and still keep prices somewhat reasonable.

If I deviate from my "staple" bumpers, I have to start charging by the hour (plus material). The bumper also takes longer because I don't have any "assembly line" pieces for it. I also don't have a ZJ frame to use as a jig so I'd have to have the rig in the shop to fit up. Where a TJ bumper is a pretty good deal (price wise), a ZJ bumper would be priced more like "Is this guy out of his freakin mind?!"

I get asked all the time about bumpers for JKs, ZJs, and XJs. If I expand into those bumpers right now I think I'd fall into the "Jack of all bumpers master of none". I can't afford to start down that slippery slope.

Hopefully, my future will include a CNC plasma table and a press brake capable of bending at least 1/4" thick winch plates and 3/16" rock sliders. That same equipment will help expand my bumper making capability but that equipment is pricey.. especially for a small timer like myself.

BESRK, I totally understand the issues with building a ZJ bumper. It was a shot in the dark I had to take. I'm just not a fan of the ARB/trailready style bumper. All the extra tubing on top reminds of some Manik grill guard-thing you'd see on the front of an Escalade. So my quest continues...

Not to take away from Eddie's bumper's which if I had a CJ/YJ/TJ I would have a pair, you may want to check out Hanson, Carolina Rock Shop, Proto Fab and Kevin's Jeep parts. All sell just what you are looking for. And some even have rear bumpers as well.

Also check out NAGCA.com (North American Grand Cherokee Assoc) They may have even more ideas for you.

Just the man I was waiting for! When I saw the post about the ZJ bumpers, I was hoping you'd chime in with some suggestions. Thanks!

And folks.. this guy has some XJ knowledge as well. Ask him about his front bumper on his XJ.. it's a work of metal art from AJ's!

Thanks Eddie. That means a lot coming from you :) I will try and get some pics of my rig up in the rigs section.

Glad that helped you out man. Bumpers are hard to find for the ZJs. I am still looking for a good one for my wife's ride...

If you really want it when I'm ready to get the new one I'll let you know, but it's pretty rough. The powder coating started coming off in sheets, and there's massive massive corrosion under it. Thing is seriously well under a year old too...
