Got a price for a new EGR valve yesterday..........$100!!!

So I have 2 questions, my engine is an '84 258.

1: Can I run one from a '74 232?

2: Do I need one? I know one guy who plugged his, been running that way for about 1 year. Havig just rebuilt my engine, I don't want to mess it up becuase of a broken EGR valve.

I know the EGR is used to 'reburn' exhuast gasses, and helps keep combustion chamber temp down, but is it necasary on an engine with no smog stuff or computer?

on the cj's 4.2 (258) we always installed the clifford 4bbl manifold and always covered it w/ a plate that was provided. Never had a problem.

I'd cover it and never look back.. as long as you don't have smog checks.
