View Full Version : Do you do the jeep wave?
Do you do the jeep wave? Just wondering, because I have driven around some places where everyone seems to wave, and some places nobody seems to wave.
Also, do you wave at all models of jeeps, just lifted jeeps, etc..

I do most that I see. Depends on how much is going on in my head.
I do but mainly to wrangler types... in the past GC's and libby's dont wave.......
I have never found a wranger in the mclean area to wave back.....
the more mods the more likely to wave......i have waved at a rubicon that looked at you like you had a d$%^ growing out of your head....but that is dc...more rural areas more likely to wave

Get far enough out, and it doesn't matter what you're drivin', people wave!
I wave all the time, get some strange looks if I'm driving my wifes Saturn Vue!
My thought is it was GI's that started the wave. The soldiers loved the Jeep in the service, when it became available to the civilin population, it was mostly soldiers buying them, so....back then, wave at a Jeep you're waving at a soldier. And we all know how that is!
Military Jeepers started the Jeep wave!!!!!
I do but driving a full sized jeep most of the time they look at you trying to figure out why some dumba$$ is waving at them from and old SUV. But for the most part I still try to wave, more likley if it is modded though

I wave at most of the Jeeps. I usually get a one fingered wave back in return(It's nice to be #1). About the only real wave I get back are from CJ's and YJ's. I got a wave from a compass once. That was sure confusing. I didn't know if I should wave or barf.

Some folks don't have a clue about the Jeep wave and I luv it when I wave (my wave is the 2 finger piece sign wave from the top of the steering) and all I get back is the old 'deer in the headlights look'! Guess they are wondering, 'why is that old guy waving at me?' Then again, living in the city, you come to expect this reaction. Different story when I travel away from the city.
So to answer the question, 'I usually do wave except when I'm shifting gears'...

I wave mostly at other Wranglers....GC's and Libby's not so much. I have noticed that in Woodbridge not a lot of people in Wranglers do the wave.

I only wave at lifted or 'wheeled' jeeps. most wranglers that do know about the wave in stock form dont wave back at me, even though my rig is well built.
in Wilimington NC nobody does the jeep wave, not even the lifted CJs
i don't wave to stockers, sorry no barbie jeeps
My XJ doesn't get a lot of love. Some will wave back, most don't.

Josh will never wave at queers ryan....no matter what you drive
I waved at all Jeeps until I realized that unless they were modded, then they usually just looked at the road/traffic
Hell when the doors and top are off they get both arms and hands hangin' out the top just a wavin'
I did run across this dude one time that a sweet TJ (lifted and lots of mods) and when I pulled up next to him admiring what he had He snobbed me. So next light I honked and asked what was wrong, and made the remark that he would never get his dirty.. I flipped him off and stated what a shame .......that all he had was a mall cruiser. And that next time it snows he should just leave it in the garage.
ill wave if their jeep is modded up, most of the time I will wait for them to wave to me. To many yuppies and kids own the tj's and dont have a clue what they are driving. The jeep was an answer to a problem for gettin troops around the battle field. so when the war was over they bought them up and when they saw another jeep they knew that it was another "MILITARY JEEPER" keep waving people!
.... QUIZ!
what is the differance in the lower case letters and the upper case letters on the fenders of jeeps?
JEEP
jeep
stumped me with that one. google does not recognize capital letters in a search, so trying to cheat was futile.
man i should have paid attention in 1st grade i swear we went over lower and upper case
I'm stumped to that question. But the wave I only get from modded jeeps around my parts and even then some just look at you. I still keep the wave going.

I usually wave first to all CJ's, YJ's, TJ's and LJ's stock or not. I also wave to any other modded Jeep - XJ's mostly but have waved to modded FSJ's and even a few Grands.
I dont wave to unmodded XJ's, Grands, or Liberty's because most are clueless about the wave.
Most people around Belvoir will wave back.
UPPER CASE= civilian jeep
Lower case = military

Yep, I wave at folks. In our little Village of about 600+, yea, everyone driving usually waves. We are out in the country, and folks wave. I have been on the road and waved at Wranglers and they just looked at me. Hey, I recieved the sitckers the other day, just today was able to get them on. Really nice. I'll try and get pictures.. Thanks,,,,
If I'm paying attention to traffic on the other side and catch a CJ/TJ I'll wave, but, my rubi is mostly stock, most folks who notice wave, but, some folks with modded rides see you but are arrogant and don't wave back. Sorry, wife, two kids, house, cars, bills bills bills and on an E5/ Sergeant's pay, I can't spend much on my ride. Bit by bit. then I'll have a bad ass Jeep and tell "stockers" to **** off.
Sorry for the tirade, alot of folks are cool, but the attitude does exist and it pisses me off...

Ok, soooo, if you saw my stock rubi today on the road today and noticed the week old mud on it, I must wheel, but, it's stock. You must be so torn. Wave or not? Shame on me for keepin her dirty, ain't been able to get off post to wash it so I can go back to looking like the posuer or wannabe y'all must think we are 'cause we cannot blow huge chunks of dinero on mods. I used to run my GC Overland on trails, even pulled out a modded Yj with it once, before I downsized to a Wrangler and joined a Jeep club, then I learned about the heirarchy of the Jeeper world.

i......... i usually only wave to the people that look like they go wheeling. i dont care much for stockers
I know my Jeep started out a 'stocker', and a stock Jeep is a blast to wheel! Where/how far you go, has as much to do with driver skill as the size of/mods on the Jeep.
And I've wheeled with some stock Rubi's, has to be the best short wheel base wheeling rig to roll out of a factory!
Hence, I wave at them all, if they don't wave back, thier loss.
It's a blast, and when I can hook it up I will. Well after my last posting fit I was out and got an initiating wave from a dude in a nicely built TJ. I returned the wave and thought, damn, I shouldn't post when I'm in a bad mood.

But there is one hot chick I see every Monday Night on my way to my friends house in a stock Liberty that waves every time we see each other. Maybe she is just a Cow Beast fan. Always on Huntington Avenue between the Metro and Rt1.
I'll wave at any bada$$ 4x4 that catches my eye. :) It's gotta be a classic or a modified one so I'll know we share a common interest. Oh, and usually only when I'm in my truck and not my DD (Corolla). :o

Tonight I was describing to my wife my modified version of the jeep wave for the stuck up DC folks. It starts with a quick flash of the headlights to get their attention, then transitions to two fingers (pointer finger and middle finger) of my left hand raised slightly off the steering wheel, then as the jeep owner looks at me like I am stupid, I transition to the next position of my DC jeep wave which is to bring my pointer finger back down to the rest position and turn my left hand 180 degrees.

It should be posted in the Jeep dealerships around the country, "If you purchase this vehicle you will have other jeepers wave at you and you are hereby compelled to return the wave, if you cannot comply go buy a Hummer or get the landrunner conversion"........

Okay here's the thing. I had a slightly lifted and abused YJ and when I waved I almost ALWAYS got it back. When I got my current TJ in its stock form, I would throw out the wave, and out of 20 times, I only got it back once. I put 31" tires on it and I got more, but it was still only like 1 out of 6, now I have my 2" lift, and I get the wave back most of the time.... I guess that's what I get for being in CT..... SNOBS all around!
On my end, I always throw the wave to CJs, YJs, TJs, and LJs, but not to stock JKs, because it's hard to tell them from minivans with all the soccer-moms and yuppie scum driving them (Where I live there are way too many liberals, protesting everything, and I can't bring myself to wave at somebody that would spit on me if they saw me in uniform)..... But I throw it at ALL CJ, YJ, TJ, LJs, stock or not, and only modded JKs.
I wave at anything that looks like it can pull me out when I'm stuck. You never know...

I wave at any short wheelbase Jeep I come across regardless of it being stock or modded. I won't initiate a wave to Jeep station wagons, but I will return it if they wave at me. I do admit to having a hard time with the 4-door JKs...A Jeep is not supposed to have doors, let alone 4 of them! ;)
Here in Cali, most folks don't wave back, probably because they're either a) caught up in their own world or b) fearful for their life in traffic...every now and then I get a nice surprise of someone driving a TJ or JK initiating the wave with a big ole grin on their face...it's nice to see some folks still get it, even if it is for the first time!
I wave. If I see the wrangler, I wave. If I see someone in another Jeep Model wave, I'll wave back assuming they also own a wrangler. If I see someone in a Toyota Sequoia wave, I run. I own him money....
kidding....

That's the JK sir, 4 door JK
I've owned 4 Wranglers over the years ('95, '98, '01, '08). I've always waved at other Wranglers. I don't waive at other Jeep models unless they're highly modified to where I can pick them out from the other thousands of SUVs running around. A Wrangler just stands out more.
There's one exception to this...I won't waive at stock JKs. The reason for that is because they've got 4 doors and thus you now have soccer mom's snatching them up like candy. I'm betting a lot of them will never have mud on the tires, doors removed, or even the top taken off. I refuse to waive at mall crawlers, which is what they are. Now, JK Rubicons are very capable off-road and therefore don't need to be modified...so if I see even the slightest thing like a hi-lift jack or off-road lights, then I'll wave.
Of course, I'll return a wave no matter who it's from...I'm just friendly like that. :)
Sure I wave. I will either initiate the wave or return it, depending on traffic and who saw who first. There are a lot of ways to wheel out there and many of those so called stock JK's have what it takes to do the wheeling that they do. I guess the perception that most folks in JK's are soccer moms is an elitist point of view.

I wave at all Wranglers, CJs and Flatties. My wife is the same way when she's driving her Jeep.
Other Jeeps that look like they are used/abused like they should be get waves from us, regardless of model.
I see a common thread with the JKs after reading through the posts here, not enough Jeepers are buying them, more "soccer moms" are downsizing from their Tahoes etc into the 4dr JK. I test drove a regular 2dr JK and liked it, fine machine, but ya don't get much camadrie from the bulk of their owners, bummer. All you JK killers here on Military Jeepers keep training your compatriots on the ol' Jeep etiquet (sp?)..you've got your work cut out for you! As for my fellow TJers, the score for the last couple of months of waves is at about 30% waving back, dissapointing, every CJ I've waved to in that period has noticed and returned the salutation...about half the YJs...

06-01-2008, 18:35
That's because us old CJ guys are the ones who invented the wave! ;)
First let me say that I really enjoy this group! The discussions do not seem to go down the juvenile path many others do.
I do wave at all the SWB Jeeps and other brands that are modified. It is funny how some guys in old CJs purposely do not return the wave even though I am driving a modified TJ. I always grin at that narrow mindedness since I have owned them all (Willy thru WJ at least). I remember during my YJ days many would not wave because it had square headlights. Another grin as I remember going with my Dad to buy a CJ in 1976. The salesman showed us the new CJ-7 and we scoffed at it. No way can it go where the CJ-5 can go with that longer wheelbase. No sir, no sissy CJ-7 for us. We bought the CJ-5 with the rag top. Fast forward to 1995 Clayton, OK trail ride where I lined up my 88 XJ at the bottom of “Three Stage” to comments of “If that station wagon can make it up, I’ll go back and get my mini-van and try.” Another grin as I made stage one look easy then drove back down to pull the next CJ up in reverse.
Bottomline, I like them all and performance in the dirt is still 90% driver and 10% vehicle.

beware driving in and around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in a Wrangler. there are so many yuppies who trick their Jeeps out so much and never ever show it to the trail. I pulled up yesterday next to a brand new-d**k Wrangler XJ or whatever the new abortion of Wrangler is...the four door f--k. he has it lifted on ~34's, safari doors, brush guard, the works. I pulled up next to him with mud still caked on from a year ago. he looked over to initiate the knowing nod (you guys know what I'm talking about) and I just gave the perfectly horizontal smile, where your mouth doesn't curve up or down. just....across. to show complete lack of interest and disgust. f-ing poser. only few still wave. very rare and usually their rigs are covered or weathered.

to me it is a wave from one unique vehicle to another, not driver to driver, i could care less if the driver waves back cause i am waving at the jeep not him
I institute a Jeep wave from the XJ or MJ when the Jeep I'm waving at is taller, or, equipped with a winch, safari rack, or aftermarket bumpers.
Now that said, Jeep waves are mandatory for the following: Lifted FS, Wranglers, CJs Forward Controls (lifted or not) XJs MJs and Jeepsters.
(Yes, I love the FC!)
I do however get strange looks when I instigate a Jeep Wave from the DD sunfart!
i wave all the time even if people dont wave back hoping that they will wonder why im waving at them and do some research

I get told the same thing. My GF thinks the salesmen should put the wave into the buyers contract, and the vehicle should be repo-ed if you do not fulfill this obligation by at least 89% of the time....
On another note, I get the "jeep wave" from every single vintage toyota land-cruiser that passes, I wave back, but I'm unsure if they think I don't realize it's not a jeep, because I KNOW it isn't:D But I"m laid back about it for the most part...
Up here though, you do get scowled at for waving at some of the "soccer moms". I would just rather leave the 4-door alone unless I'm waved at first.

Forgive me, brothers (and sisters) for I have sinned. :( Yesterday, on the way home from work, I stopped at Sonic and bought my grandson a 44 ounce drink. (Little sucker loves that peach tea!) So, just I was turning into my subdivision, I look up and a JK driver coming out tosses me "the wave." Well, as any YJ driver can attest, there are no cup holders made to contain the bulk of a 44 ounce drink adequately. I'm balancing the drink with my left hand on my left leg while lifting my left foot up to push in the clutch. My right hand is busy cranking the wheel to the right to make the turn and simutaneously down shift into second gear. My right foot is judiciously applying pressure to the brake pedal so I don't fly into the aformentioned JK at "breakneck" speed. (OK, so "YJ" and "breakneck speed" don't go hand-in-hand, but you get my drift.) Needless to say, I have run out of appendages with which to return said Jeep wave. My brain could only come up with two options at that moment of time: 1) Toss the 44 ounce drink out the side and wave furiously (since getting a Jeep wave iniated by a JK driver around these parts is pratically unheard of) :) or 2) Quickly unzipping my shorts to return the wave with my "short leg." :o Unfortunately, that would have required accomplishing Option 1 first, therefore rendering moving on to Option 2 unnecessary. :D therefore, I didn't return the wave.
As a penance, I will wave to all Jeeps, no matter year or model for one week. I hope this will be enough to get me back in the good graces of the MJ community.:D

O and I have found the breakneck speed for a YJ. I66 West bound and the top decides to come out of the windshield channel. 80-30mph in the space of 50ft or so with a parachute top.

Dear elitists who only wave at certain model jeeps: What's wrong with you? I drive a stock XJ (well from the outside anyways) I just got my jeep about two years ago (was given to me from my uncle) and have been so wrapped up in trying to learn my job and adjusting to married life and adjusting to reductions in income (was stationed over seas and GF had a great job, now stateside... not so much anymore) So while Im saving up for a lift kit, i dont have it yet. The only mods I've done so far are the jeep junk yard ones I can do. Most of that is to the interior. I learned about the Jeep wave for the first time 2 months ago, and since I wave at every single jeep I say. It can be a compass, commander, patriot or even and old school CJ. It still gets the wave. Why? because either A) They know what it is and they will wave back, B) They dont know, but are friendly and wave back, C) They have no idea, think im a crazy person, give me a dirty look, and are furious for the next few minutes of their drive. I revel in that fact. I wave at all jeeps for the same reason I will go out of my way to cross the street and salute an officer. They do it back. (most of the time though, saluting the officer is being obnoxious, that poor bastard has to return every single salute, and when you get five guys, walking apart from each other around the base doing this intentionally.. well you get the idea:D ) Who care's i it's a soccer mom driving a Liberty or a compass or anything else? THEY BOUGHT A JEEP. NOT A TOYOTA NOT A HONDA, A JEEP. So if you wont wave because they don't take their jeep offroad, then at the very least, wave because they bought American.
By the way, nobody in my town of Defiance ohio seems to know what the jeep wave is. I always seem to start it, but I always get a wave back. Always.

the "ugly" xj that we are running as the dd may not look like much, but IT'S STILL RUNNING & legaly too. over 244,000 miles on the all original equipment.
now DirtyJeepGirl has a point... if im only gonna get a wave (or flipped off) if i can lift & mod my jeep..... who has any extra lift kits & "bigger tires" that they would be willing to donate to the cause? lmao
as a civilian i can feel the pain of not having that "good" steady (military) pay coming in. so the yard parts is about all the "modifications" i can do for now.

Here in southern NM, most of the Jeeps are stock, "Mom mobiles" that never seem to get so much as dirty, let a lone offroad. If the Jeep looks like it sees off road, it gets the wave. Or if it's a Wrangler (or CJ) that's running with the top and/or doors off in one of the many recent, no warning, down pour rains. They deserve the wave if they're getting that soaked and muddy:D

The jeep wave
Warning
Owning, registering, insuring, or driving a Jeep implies knowledge of and intent to abide by the following rules. Failure to obey the rules may result in your being ignored by other Jeep owners as you sit along the side of the road next to your stalled vehicle in a blizzard surrounded by Saturns, Yugos, and Hyundais.
Definition of the Jeep wave: An honor bestowed upon those drivers with superior intelligence, taste, class, and discompfort tolerance to own the ultimate vehicle- the JEEP. Generally consists of vigourous side to side motion of one or both hands, but may be modified to suit circumstances and locally accepted etiqeutte.
When I first got my Jeep (even when I took it out for a test drive) I had someone in an approaching Jeep Wave. So When I bought my Jeep my better half looked it up on line. Here is the link for the Jeep Wave:
http://www.jeeptalk.org/jeep_wave.php

I guess it is just safer to wave first and forget the hierarchy ----(USMCHARLEYJEEP -- Yes Patty helped me with that last word...)
I bought a rubi new in 05 and it came with a brochure about the Jeep wave, it was amusing. Other than that I wave at all traditional Jeeps (CJ's, YJ's TJ's etc) and any of the other Jeeps that are modded. I have gotten the finger once (guess it was that time of the month :p)

On fort leonard wood th other day, I waved to a JK nice shiney new Black one and as I drove by I saw was a gray haired lady looking at me like who the hell are you. I'm sure the lack of doors and roof, 33's and fog lights kinda made her un-easy LOL.
Hey be careful about gray hair jokes haven't seen brown hair in a lot of years.......

And let me guess the largest pair of sunglasses known to man!!!!
So does anyone do like me and point and laugh at those trucks that start with an "H" that preppies drive to the mall? With all the shiny chrome, low profile tires, fresh coat of wax and not a ding or scratch on the surface. WE ALL know they are not the real thing.
in my area, all the jeepers pretty much see eachother all the time so we wave whenever we run into eachother. the only wave i don't get back are from: teenagers (mostly females) who seem to prefer white color jeeps and never put the top down, older women (driving JKs) who do not know how to put the top down, or that old guy driving that rusted out early model black TJ.
i also notice that guys will check out the vehicle, the women check out the guy driving the vehicle. subtle gender difference there. ;)
also, if at a stop light and a mustang or whatnot pulls up, they seem to think that I want to race and will light into it while I leasurely follow. perhaps they do not get the differential concept of a street car vs off road rig.
but i wave.

Hey, hey, watch the "Old Guy driving that rusted out early model black TJ" My TJ is an 04 it's Patriot Blue and No Rust.....Old Guy part fits pretty good though.......two fingers over the steering wheel....LOL:beer:
i wave at all CJ/YJ/TJ/JK and all moded others, i have actually got others to wave (who didnt at 1st) due to waving at them everyday on my way to work,
his TJ is like the first year they were introduced and i am thinking he bought it here in chicago b/c of all the rust. seriously, he never waves, never, and it's not like we do not see eachother almost daily.
anyway, mine is an 04 also, and no rust yet.
putting in for IDC school for oct and/or jan. winter in san diego vs chicago.....hmmmm.....tough decision. but i thought people were crazy about rents when i moved up here from north carolina....i checked out rentals on the web in so cal and . are they serious? i'm thinking about checking out trailer parks....but i do not need any room. all i got is my sleeping bag (can't sleep in beds anymore), poncho liner, the back seat from the jeep for a couch, and a c4 crate for a coffee table, a wine mug, opener, and my tools. anyone know of a loft above a garage....(i can use the garden hose for hygiene).

I always do, but there are instances women specially that dont return the wave. I guess that they don't know that is costumary or "I don't know that guy" attitude. I thing for sure is cool to get a reply and be acknowledge by other Jeepers :o !! So, don't give up and continue doing the right thing. :D
I participate, every day. There are several women driving Jeeps that I run into regularly. I waved for weeks before they started to return the gesture, but they all do now...
I don't give up. I figure if they don't wave back, then I am waving at the poor misunderstood, neglected jeep...

this was mentioned earlier but im going to revive it. do any of you wave to grand cherokees or other jeeps? i wave to most that are lifted just because when i wave to a stocker they look at me like what the hell. most lifted jeeps look and comprehend but dont return the wave when i give it. its not like im a regular gc im got three inches of lift and 265's (32's) under it.

I get a wave about 60/40% of the time and if I see you I wave regardless of year or mod BUT I have noticed that my wife gets a wave about 99.9% of the time............
I am not sure why the little blond hottie driving my Jeep has guys about to wreck but it is fun to watch. When she has one of her girlfriends with her and the top is off (the Jeep's not hers!) guys break their freaking necks........

I got the "what are you waving at her for, do you know her?" from the wife when I waved at a TJ and got the wave back. So it happened to be driven by a pretty hot woman with the top and doors off. Is that my fault? I still don't think she believes me that its just a Jeep thing.

lmao kevin. i'm learning my girlfriend in the way of the JEEP life-style. i.e. getting her to wave to other Jeepers.
i wave to ALL Jeeps, no matter mods, year or driver. but i've noticed that over 75% of the "jeeps" up my way aren't "true Jeeps" but (puke) SUV's. it's more of a statis symbol for them than a 4x4 to be driven like it's a tank :haha:
fifthpro, if she did happen to drive with the top off (hers & the jeeps) i'm sure the guys lookin at the hottie in your Jeep WOULD wreck!!! lmao
who would you rather wave at? a hottie in a topless Jeep or some scruffy lookin guy in a Jeep? i rest my case, lmao.
i know our jeep ain't much to look at, but it is a work in progress. :D
I no longer do the wave thing. I'm starting something new. The JEEP HONK. I put a AWOOGA horn in my jeep, so now I just honk at Jeeps.

I wave at Wranglers and CJ's and moded Jeeps that are obvious trail rigs... Remeber to wave at the Jeep even if the other jeeper dont wave back.
Sorry to bring this back to life but the "Wave" is kind of a big deal to me. I try to wave to all CJ-Wrangler edition Jeeps and earlier. If I am driving the stock TJ or my 84 CJ7 I wave. BUT... I will remember you if I pass you on more than one occasion and you don't wave back. For instance there is a guy who drives a lifted YJ in my area. I'd be coming home from work in the TJ (when the CJ was still a project) pass this dude and wave. Nothing but dirty looks. This happend a few times. Sooooo... Once the CJ was on the road and my daily driver again I finally saw him at the light near Wawa on 663 and 73. What is this that I behold??? A WAVE FROM THE FREAKIN' TOOL!!! So I let him know he is #1 with both hands and pull in to Wawa for gas. Sure enough he follows. Poor little guy didn't realize he was about to bite off more than he could chew. What the f this and what the f that. Then I get out... He drove away as I was explaining the rules of the wave. That kid waves everytime I see him now. I love those little young bad ass kids. It's just too much fun to toy with there little over inflated minds. I even took him wheelin before he went back to school.:)

Try to wave all the time, I miss a few here and there I'm sure.
Though when we had the Samurai, we would get a Jeep wave every now and then when the top was off.
I wave when I'm paying attention. It's always the 2 fingers up from the steering wheel. If I don't wave it's becuase I tend to drift off sometimes while driving...thinking about the trail I'm getting ready to run; the trail I just ran; how I'm going to fix the damage from the trail I just ran; my next mod; my most recent mod; where I'm going to get more money for a new mod...yeah...
It's is a jeep thing and like stated earlier it comes with owning a jeep
YES
Always when in the Willys. Sometimes in the Grand, as not many people wave back, they just give you the funny look of why you waving at me.
There are times when it'll be only 40 or 50% wavers. However, I don't care. I wave unless I'm zoned out......Which could be more than I realize.

I do the wave but a lot of the newer jeep owners (cant call them jeeprers) don't. Here at Hood they pretty much all wave.
This is an old thread. When I had my TJ I waved ALL the time. But I think it should be called the Wrangler Wave NOT the Jeep Wave.
I drive and XJ and never gt waves so its not a jeep wave.
I now own my 2nd XJ and I will put that XJ Places guys won't venture with a Wrangler, so it's not an offroad jeep wave.
I have waved when towing my wrangler and did not receive waves back so its not a Wrangler owner wave.
I guess it is a Wrangler Drivers wave.

x2. It's more of a Wrangler/CJ wave. Nobody waves at XJs!
I wave at any lifted or modified Jeep that I see here on post. If its a stocker and they wave I will return the wave for sure. Has nothing to do with looking down on them or heirarchy or anything like that. Just got so tired of waving to non modified Jeeps and having them look at me like I was crazy or giving me the one finger salute.
So figured Wheelers are a different breed, and most wave back and understand the jeep wave as a friendly greeting between two people who understand JEEP!
I had a bad ass lifted Jeep Wrangler TJ pull up beside me today in Fountain and I looked over smiled gave a little wave. He just laughed and pulled away from me at the light. He had no military sticker so not sure if he thought I was a poser or what but I know his rig was bad. Maybe he is one of those guys that babys it and keeps it in the garage during snow and brings it out only during sunny nice weather hehe.
Here in Northern Colorado it seems no one waves, my wife who drives a Mini gets more waves from her Mini people then I do in the Jeep. She even gives me crap now cause in Washington I could have just left my hand up while driving but here I get nothing. It is just sad!

I do but driving a full sized jeep most of the time they look at you trying to figure out why some dumba$$ is waving at them from and old SUV. But for the most part I still try to wave, more likley if it is modded though
X2. Some of the guys driving modded Jeeps wave back, but I stopped giving the wave to most "stockies." Most people think my Jeep is too loud and obnoxious. Windows go up and I get dirty looks when I pass somebody.
I wave, sometimes I am zoned out like most drivers, but if I see ya I wave.

Gotta wave! It's the only way to teach new Jeepers. After a while of waving to them a light will finally go off ... I understand, It's a jeep thing!
I usually wave at Wranglers and CJs, but that's mostly because they're the ones that get my attention before I'm actually passing them. It's usually the two finger steering wheel wave, but around Carson, the hang out the door frame and flip the deuces works too.
I did notice back when I was rolling in Wagoneer, most guys just looked back like I wasn't really driving a Jeep at all. I think it's proportionate to how many people actually use their Jeeps in the dirt. The more dirt, the more waves.
Between riding a Harley and driving my Jeep seems as if I'm waving all the time you would almost think I was a friendly Guy..
I always try to wave if I see them, usually just Wranglers/CJs. I only get a reply about 1/3 of the time though. Seems like the ones with DOD stickers wave more than the locals. However, thats another story.

I wave at all SWB Jeeps, probabally get waved back about 75%. Usually it's only yellow jeeps with females driving that don't wave.......
I also wave at other Jeeps if they've been modded over stock at all. I'd say I get it returned maybe 40% of the time.
I've got my 7 yr old daughter waving like crazy at other Jeeps, she has been since she was 4 or so. She even says "Hi Jeep!" LOL

When I wave from my Libby, I seldom get a response. From the TJ, I usually do.
Often other Jeeps here in the northeast are just grocery-getters for new owners that never heard of the Jeep wave. They'll learn eventually. It just takes time.

I do, but most Jeeps owners who aren't into Jeeps or know what the heck an FSJ is, look at me real funny. I get those simpathetic "I'm not sure what the heck you're waving for" waves all the time. Lifted Jeeps all types most always wave. If this GW was more of a POS than it is, I'd chop the top off so I could be cool like you guys with baby Jeeps.

I wave at those who wave, unless it's an older jeep then I wave first.
To many mall crawlers around here.
It never ceases to amaze me, they buy a rubicon, then put crap fancy street rims and street tires, then you look and it's some woman driving it to the mall or some other store. Maybe one day it'll find it's way to a used car lot where someone will finally use the dman thing for it's intended purpose.
Sorry for the rant.
I wave mostly at Wranglers and CJs. But if it looks like it gets wheeled alot I'll wave.
Was hard to get a wave when I was in Hawaii. All those tourists in rental Jeeps give you the WTF??? look or just ignore you.
other jeeps look at me really weird when i wave at them from my jacked up liberty lol. but i still cont. to wave.
I wave at just about any Jeep that has some sorta mods done to it or looks like they take it out and wheel. I even wave at the kids in stock jeeps cause I know they tear those things up worse then all of us put together. I grew up near Barnwell Mountain ORV in Texas so Jeeps and other rigs are a rather over populated and everyone is always waving and stoping you at Gas stations wanting to go wheeling or just hangout

Normally I wave at modded Wrangler. I've had not much reaction/waves from regular Wranglers. Either they don't know the wave or they're only borrowing the Jeep for transportation purposes.
If I see modded GC's I wave at them also. But out of the 5 GC's I've seen here in Northern VA this past week, only 1 waved back at me.
wranglers only.
I get a 90% return. Figure I am waving at the rig, not the driver LOL

I wave at jeeps, only when it looks like a jeep built/driven for wheeling!
Always.
Flatties, CJs, Scramblers, TJs, YJs, JKs...anything that's a Jeep and not a SUV.
Seems the JK owners give the least returns - especially the 4-door JK owners.
Wave all the time in Newport,R.I. and I get stared at like " Why is he waving?"
I wave at all wranglers. And if another Jeepo waves, I wave back. Heck! If they are in a hummer and wave, I'll even wave.
Some people may have Jeeps, but still don't understand it's a Jeep thing. For them, this is the Jeep Wave 00i00 Teehee!
