I have heard good things about this run. Doubt I will make it, don't want to camp with the kids in the cold and don't want to pay $65 to run one day.
Did it last year. Actually $65 is dirt cheap for this event. Fri night run, all Sat and Sun. 1 hoodie, 2 dinner tickets, bonfire and DJ Sat night. Camping. They have heated shower/toilet facilities. Great time and would recommend.

65 is pretty good
figure 2 days wheeling =$40
a hoodie = $25 and it's adds up fsater from there $10/night camping+ food etc etc

I agree the price is EXCELLENT for the event. It includes camping, clothes, wheeling, and you get da eats. I would only show up for the day so $65 is a little steep. Last year i wanted to meet somebody out there for the day and when but when I checked with SMORR they said they wouldn't offer a day rate for that weekend.
Good point. I do believe when they have the larger events, they shut out the 1 day rides. That would be better if they had that available somehow.
Iam planning onattending. I need to ensure my rocklights are done by then because the night run sounds like a BLAST

According to this link, it's 3 days long...or are you only free one of those days?

I could only make it on Sat. The event is 3 days and a good event. I wanted to bring to peoples attention here. I don't plan on being their myself.
Looks like I might make it. We are bringing the camper and will pull with the grand. My wife wil take the younger one to springfield on Sat so he doesn't have to be looked in the TJ all day bouncing around.
OK so lets get an idea of who coming when
Fred-Fri, Sat, leaving Sun, night run, and likely the hard group Sat
Larry-Fri, Sat, Sun. I don't think he's doing the night run and likely hard group Sat
Ross-Fri, Sat, Sun, night run, hard group Sat

I gonna try and get off early that Friday in order to get a descent camper spot, the "fence line" fills up qiuickly. Sometimes on the far side of the pavillion is a couple spots or behind the first row is good also.
So we see how it works in a couple weeks!!
Ross and I talked yesterday and have a plan how to box in a safe play area for the little ones using our campers.

What are the trails like and how is the area?
I'll be home on leave before I deploy march 3rd. I'll be in Mo from the 18 to feb 4. For vacation. Would love to get some wheeling in before storing the jeep.
I see ya'll talking about camper set ups. What acomidation do they have for the poor folk like me with just a jeep and a tent? Don't want to be freezing my ace off.
I'll be 30mic from Ft. Leonard Wood. Born and raise there.
They will be in Campers, I will be in a tent. There is Primitive Camping but there is a nice bath house on premises. Between Larry and Ross there will be electric available so you can run whatever you would need. Dinner food Sat will be supplied the other meals we will likely do as a group

like Fred says we can make up a MJ island in the camping area, I have never seen it packed. The facilities are very good there, always hot showers and heated well. Ross and I both have gennys.
Town is only a few miles up the road many people go there for chow during the day but meals are included in the price this time.

I'll let ya'll know. Also does anyone have a link for a website if they have one? What are the trail levels and what level trail do ya'll run?

http://www.smorr.net/ we have gennys so bring a electric heater (safe one) and some fire wood.
I have 2 Ceramic heaters I may bring but I like to sleep in COLD. Unless my Son gets his act together between now and then It will be just me so I will bring the small tent
My 9 year old son and I will most likely make it. I am just waiting to see what the weather is going to be like before I commit. We will be tent camping and most likely bringing the quads. I just had to put new brakes on my Jeep this morning. I just found out yesterday when I heard metal on metal scrubing that I have had a stuck caliper for a while. Sucked that I drove all the way to Alabama and back like that too. Looking back, I think it started sticking after the last run I went on with you guys. Looked like the mud got it.

Be cool if you can make it.
Dont think mud messed up your calipers, sometimes it sticks up drums.

Yeah, when I had my 4 Runner it had drums on the rear. They always had so much mud in them all the time and I got so sick of changing the rear pads that I just got used to driving it without rear brakes :D.

I'm going Friday with the kids sometime I put in for the day off, but Andrea has to work late for inventories. I want to get there as soon as possible to set up and to ensure a descent spot for camping, but I'm thinking with the genny we would have to be back a bit. She doesnt get done until like 1800 so we wouldnt get there until maybe 2000?
At first I thought take evrything out there and then come back for her but that seems less attractive now.
I plan on taking Fri off also. I will get up there pretty early At least thats the plan. Where is a good camping spot? I can get at least the tent set up and can park the jeep in a camper spot

You should come down to my place and pick my trialer and haul it there for me, that way you could reserve more space:). I will be clearing:eek::beer: that day and will try to get there as early as I can. I will be transfoming fom SSG Olson to MR Olson.

Don't know how well the XJ would pull that trailer.
Don't know how well the XJ would pull that trailer.
Its only about 3k, we pull it with our grand all the time.
I'll take chances with taking up enough space for us all. I should be able to steal enough space for both campers and tents. Jacob is coming as long as the whether isn't too cold and nasty, I will be there tenting, Jacob is tenting, DistortedTJ is trying to come and tenting, the two campers, and I don't know who else but we have the beginnings of a good sized group

I didn't think you would want to tow it, I really didn't expect to do it. If there are thing you want me to bring let me know, I will have alot of room for hauling. Not sure how busy the camp area will be but Dakota is bringing his bike. Let me know if you run out of room and need some stuff hauled.
Can we have campfires in the camp area?
I don't know, Larry are campfires god to go? As for stuff to bring, it will be just me so I will be bringing my smaller tent and minimul supplies. Whats the plan for Breakfast Sat/Sun morn? Whats the plan for Lunch Sat? I assume we will all stay together on the trails. Larry if we get into something the smaller guys are not comfortablr with like Jacob, are there bypasses? And is alcohol allowed?

yes there ae fire pits and rings, it may be fairly busy- I havent seen anyone driving fast through the camping area, it is posted as IDLE SPEED ONLY but its a sign.
I dont think I need anything hauled out.

We are going to try to keep it simple for food. Brandi and Austin will probably go to Springfield on Sat. We will probably pre cook and as much food as possible so we don't have alot of mess for cooking and clean up. We are bringing sandwich stuff for lunches, pre scramble eggs and propbably pre-cooked bacon and cereal for breakfasts and snacks. As far as alcohol I am sure they allow it in the camp area.

Well if I get some spiders I can go anytime. I aint been down to smmor yet so I could meet you at Mobil right there at hwy 44 out side ft wood and follow you down and help claim some ground. I don't have to worry about taking off. I'm on leave down here until the 6th.:D
And I'm a poor tent guy. I'll be bringing a space heater and cord to plug into someone's genny.
Also I had questions about paying for the event.
Do we have to register with them to do it or just show up and pay???

Heck that'll be You, Jacob, MAYBE Larry, and I all going up early Fri. We should be able to get plenty of room and maybe even wheel that day.

Sounds like a wrench party is coming up. I didn't get shocks or BL yet. Just spacers and bump stop extensions in case I need them. I don't think I will yet with the stock tires. Should I go ahead and put them in while we are lifting it or is it pretty easy to just do it later? Do I have to take the springs out to install the bump stop extensions?

Real easy.
Front. Disco swaybar , take one tracbar bolt out, jack front up, set frame on jack stands, let front end down take off tires, pull spring out, slide spacer in.......reverse.
Same for back.
Yes it' will be easyer to just install the bumpstops when you pull the springs out of the way.

Yes about 1.5 hours, they have directions on the SMORR.net site its a pretty easy route. As for the trails there are all kinds/levelsjust depends on you and your rig. I say the more the better we can all hang a bit after wheeling.

I just went through the info on the smorr site and it states they choose what group you wheel in.
Is this going to split us all up?
I'm not sure on the terrain there, what level with everybody be in?
It says they will assist you in chooseing a group if you are unsure. We shouldn't have to break up but I will definatly go places Jacon won't, Larry and Ross will go anywhere I will and then some, And Cory will likely stick with Jacon. We have a number of different build levels and skill levels and levels of Balls.

If you tell them you want to go together they'll usually put you in the "lowest" level group to protect the less modified jeep. They want to groups close in mods and driver skills as not to slow down the groups too much.

Directions from Waynesville off the google/smorr site
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=37.0859,-92.73205&ie=UTF8&z=13&ll=37.085858,-92.731991&spn=0.097227,0.186939&om=1&iwloc=A
Now Fred lets try and follow the directions and not make up new routes :DLOL
Larry, you don't count with the open diff's situation. They don't expect someone to be able to get a 40mph run at every hill.

I plan to run the Moderate trail, depending on there method of rating. I dont really consider a rubicon with lockers and 4to1 craw ration a stock jeep. I have ran some difficult trails before but not in this jeep. I will run stock if that what someone else from here is running. I am off this weekend if you need some help. Mike
They rate them 1-5. Rubi with 33's should be fine on 3's and most 4's. If muddy there, things can get tricky (fun) quickly. Have fun on trash can and log jam.
Count me in. Not real sure about camping though. gotta find somebody to watch my mutts for me My wife is going out to Nc that weekend for her nieces birthday So I am stuck with all 3 dogs. I might bring my little buddy with me depending on the rules down there anybody know? as for trails I will be taking all the easy stuff as well since this is my first time with my new Jeep. is anybody making the trip down from here in StL. if so when are you leaving and where from? possible caravan?
We have 2 and have no idea wht we will do with them.
The official SMORR ruling on Dogs
Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash and supervised at all times. NO Rots, Dobermans or Pits allowed. If your dog is aggressive toward people or other animals do not bring it. If a problem occurs you may be asked to leave the Ranch.
So looks Like I will be bringing one of the Mutts with now for the other 2

I am open on 33's. I uaually go for the moderate stuf,
But from your pictures you don't seem to mind a bit of body damage
Body Damage is all relative. I am on 35's with D D30/D44 and a rear locker. I will rn whatever Larry says to run
Ghost00TJ
01-22-2009, 22:18
HA LOL I have never got any body damage other than some flare rubbing until the other day and I dont plan on any more like that.
I- most of us try NOT to have any damage but if you run trails long enough sooner or later you get a scratch or 2. Anyway no real harm no foul. Like many of us say if you cant stand breaking something or scratching or a dent, dont do anything but the easy trails. The better you get at knowing where your tires are and picking a line with them the less things go bump and thump. (the undercarraige doesnt count)
Fred I would try moderate out there Saturday morning then after lunch you will have a better idea of what SMORR level you want to try and can jump groups if needed. I have been happy with moderate out there, and have run some of the locker recomended trails (in dry weather).
SMORR has trail rateings up and down in other words a trail going one way may be a 3, but if you come the other direction it may be a 5-they are clearly marked. But that is why they have trail leaders this time and also to de-conflict traffic.
not worried about scrapes and scratches but Mama would kill me If i came home with a caved in tub corner. at least till I get my crusher corners and rock rails. but I have no issues running what I can from the way it sounds I will be running with a few of the guys from here anyways.

yea so far every jeep I have met the owner of can run moderate or is getting set up before HFO to handle it. just depends on the driver
I am not one for taking any chances on scratching my jeep or getting it to muddy. I will probably stick more around the camp ground.

I even try to keep the belly clean, just in case anybody is checking, actually the belly is the only thing I try to keep clean.

yea Ross, I would love to drive that canyon someday
I will watch you do, I did it once and don't have to do it again. I was the only person in our group that made it up under my own power. Three tried, a big YJ, broke a U joint, and a kinda built sammy. I winched him up. It was probably the smallest vehicle I ever winched but by far the hardest recovery. The sammy fit perfectly INTO the crack almost to the top of his fenders.
The pic is deceiving, the sammy could have almost fit under my jeep in that pic.

Ghost...what suspension you running?
I ain't new to wheeling so moderate or so is probally for my rig.
I will most likely be running the moderate trails once I get a feel for the place.
Larry- I will be there at around 0900 in the morning if you are still up for it. I want to get it all installed and find some angle for rocker guards.

Go with CH 4 for now. I think the park regulars favour CH 7. Play it by ear and will see.
make 2 sets of rock sliders.
I will be making my own sir if you were refering to making a set for me. :D
Looks like I won't be able to make it. BUT, if things change, look for the Orange Beast to rumble in.
