So my hubby finally let me buy my Jeep. I have a 2008 Jeep Sahara (unlimited), she is a bad B* but is stock. I love it but don't really know where to start. I am nervous to take her on trails cause I don't want to mess it up. I have decided to call "her" NESTA:D. Any advise? I would love to get out there and join the fun!

Put a "mild" 6 inch long arm lift with skids, armor and 36 inch tires with upgraded axles and gearing. Then you can wheel her a little and make sure you like it before you spend a lot of money. :)

...or you can start meeting some of the people on the boards and check out their rigs first. :)

I will let you know when I go out so you can beat it up some.

Take it out stock (well first get some tires) ensure you go out with experiances wheelers and NEVER go alone. Then as your skills progress your jeep will also. You can fit 33's with a 2" lift on the 08 models. Eventually you will do a mild lift and 33's and be able to do wnaything you want within reason of not damageing anything

yes, 33's in stock trim and 35's with either new fenders or a small lift.

First thing to get is some armor underneath. Stock JKs do well offroad with some more aggressive tires, but you need to protect some of the vulnerable parts so that you don't break something expensive. Put some aggressive tires on, leave it stock height and get used to what you and your JK can do before you star changing anything.

Kick it. Kick the door shut, drop a drink on the hood. Once you get the first nick on it the rest of the dents come easy. Day one - brand new TJ, wife door dinged it. Since a fit wouldn't do any good I just accepted it and moved on.

Like others have said, wheel it stock and get to know how it handles. Just change the tires.
You need to decide are you going to play on rocks, then skids are going to be your best friend. Some tummy tucks and gas skids require a 1" body lift.
Or are you going to play in the mud/water, think snorkle, raising the vent tubes on the axles, transmission, etc.

6" lift and you should be able to fit 40's. I helped a buddy do a BB and 35's fit great in it. That is the route I would suggest. You can do a BB for 300 and have a ton of money to armor, lock and gear it.

Above all, have fun with it:D
