View Full Version : Rausch Creek M&G: APRIL 24-26th

This will be a Wheeling Run AND a Meet and Greet!

Rausch Creek got back to me and said April 24, 25, and 26 were open. That makes this M&G a GO!

Their web site is: http://www.rauschcreekoffroadpark.org/ Please read the park rules. They have trails for ALL levels of rigs from 100% stocker, to full competition buggy.

Normally we leave home sometime friday to get there for early evening ( we are about 5hrs away) - no wheeling on friday just tent set up (although we might be doing the hotel if the weather is inclement), dinner, and mingling. Spend all day wheeling on saturday, and a large portion on sunday. Park closes at 5 on Sunday. That's not to say you have to be there the whole time. Stop by for a day, or even just a couple hours (if that suits you better)

They have primitive camping for tents, and plenty of room for campers for those that plan on bringing one. If you are not into camping on-site, there is a Comfort Inn and a Hampton Inn right down the road that offers discounts for people going to RC. Reminder: On-site camping is only available those that are wheeling and/or passengers. It is free with membership and day pass only. Just an FYI

At this point we are looking for a head count as to who can feasibly make it. When we spoke to Rausch we gave a tentative number of 20+ and they said "That weekend will be fine.", so they can't say they weren't warned!

If the turn out is good enough I plan on making this an annual event.

This will also be a great way for people to swap parts without the added cost of shipping!

There may be some "door-prizes", if there are enough people to warrant it. We are in negotiations with Will (HeavyMetal) and Cody, from Heavy Metal Concepts (http://www.heavymetalconcepts.com/), to make a video of the weekend, along with any photo work you might want to have done to showcase your rig.

HMC home page, CHECK IT OUT!
Heavy Metal Concepts (http://www.heavymetalconcept.com/)
Videos, photos, artistic photos. These are the guys!

They also did the the "Air Force Hunter" video that has been circulated around this site.

It's all set up people!

I'm in!!!!!!!!!! I will either camp solo Friday and wheel Saturday or come with the family and to the C.I. and wheel Saturday. Either way I am there for sure!

I'm in. Not sure if I'll camp or not just yet, if the wife comes then we'll be at the hotel, Comfort Inn.

If any one plans on staying at the Comfort Inn call them directly, tell them that you'll be there for wheeling at RC. This is the only way to get the discount. Book on-line and the standard rate applies. Standard rates are about $120, discount is around $65. Comes with a heated swimming pool, breakfast (which is a nice spread), plus you can hang in the lobby/sitting area drinking and BS'ing. They're a cool crew up there, just don't act like a complete ass (half ass is cool).

I would definitely like to be in on this. Only thing is I don't think my shit will be up to snuff just yet. I'll see. Worse comes to worse, list me as needing a seat. I'd like to just come chill and cry about my jeep with people who will understand :)

For door prizes I've always asked around places like 4WDH or Quadratec. Lots of times they will give out some good stuff for events like this. I always had to get door prize donations for our club events.

I'm sure there will be seats available. That does bring up a good point though. If others are willing to let someone ride with them, a few people could essentially take their cars and meet-up at the hotel or RC.... something to look into.

Chris, If Patty and I can make it you are more than welcome to wheel with us. Besides I am certain that Patty would probably want to walk some of the obstacles anyway... She has volunteered to be my camera girl.... If all goes well I am hoping to have 4.88's in and 2-3" lift done by then if the money holds out.

Right now we are looking at Cherokee's 90's era for Patty. Then it is on to the project Jeep. Hoping Jeff Daniels still has that 67 Commando when I can afford it.

Haha. Have you had to sit in the back of a YJ? I rode from Augsburg, Germany to the Netherlands in the back of one with my brother, Dad, and step Mom. I'll never do it again :).

If I can, I'm going to try to play musical chairs, so watch your jeeps.

My jeep will be just about fixed by then, but I won't have a spare tire. The axle will be fixed in March, but I'm not taking her out with no spare tire. The original spare is on the jeep now, but has a huge gash in it. I don't know how it's holding air, so we'll just see if I can finagle some tires outta Jen. Probably going to be BFG AT's though.

I may be there. All is going to depend on TTC and the things I need to do in preparation. If my Jeep is down, I'll find a beater and wheel it like a rental! I know my wife wants to wheel her XJ too. If we make it, I don't think we'll be camping; 2 year old may not do well with that.

i want to be in on this. trying to convince the wife. It's about a 9 hour drive for us, which I have no problem doing. The only issue i see now is that my wedding aniversary is april 29th. Id really like a chance to get to meat a lot of you guys and get some good experience and opinions on things. Id like to camp out, but it'll depend on the weather.

I realy don't think I will be able to make it not sure if my rig will be working after Harlan KY. Thanks for the invite.

Damn, if I wasn't heading to Moab on April 10th, I would be going to this.

We plan our trip a year out, if there is a 'Camp MJ' next year, I'm in!
Heck, I drive 3000 miles roundtrip to Moab, so hitting the area of "Camp MJ 2010" would be feasible!

Good Luck with the turnout!

Can everyone do me a favor though and post up what model jeep you have such as TJ, JK, CJ, etc... I need to know for one of the sponsors so they can provide something that someone will be most likely to get use out of.

Also, if you want to link to www.campmj.com from another site / forum, please feel free. We have Heavy Metal Concepts coming down to video tape and produce the event, so you will likely end up in some sort of movie of the event :)

Plenty of room, there is no cap on this run. All you need is to be a member (I see that you are), and own a jeep, easy. If you plan on wheeling at RC, you also need to follow their rules as well, but that's it. Are you in?

Hey Chris,
You might want to give Rausch a call about Dogs. If I remember right, dogs are not allowed on the trails at Rausch, but I may be mistaken. I know they were allowed at Paragon.

BucketOKarma
03-01-2009, 19:50
I just talked to HeavyMetal, he said dags are allowed, just not at the competitions. Go ahead, bring your dogs man! When I was at "Operation Enduring Realness" one of the guys bought a dog, it rode on all the trails in the jeep, no problems. It's fine, don't worry.

Found on the RC site...

Membership
Rausch Creek Off Road Park is a membership-based facility. There are no pre-requisites or waiting lists. All drivers and passengers must sign a membership application & liability waiver. Drivers and passengers age 16 and up are required to become members of the park which costs $10 per year and is good for one year from the date you join. Membership cards are given out when you join.

Children age 15 and younger are free, however, we require a parental waiver. All members under the age of 18 also require a parental waiver.

The daily entrance fee is $35.00 for the vehicle and driver. Passengers age 16 and up are $5.00 each (When a passenger joins the park, the $5.00 fee is waived that day). We offer free primitive camping for our members.

So i think im slowly wearing down the wive's resolve into letting me go to this. Once I told her there would be camping she seemed to like the idea a lot better, we actually bought sleeping bags last night. Go figure i say camping and she says "Oh we gotta go buy..." Oh well. So im not quite completely confirmed yet.. but it's 90%. Hell we even talked about bringing my younger brother along and everything. So for those who are going, how many are doing the camping thing? My wife is definetly most interested in that. Do they have cooking area's or would we have to be prepared to cook on the camp fire? (definetly the best way)

TJ 4 the Boxers
03-02-2009, 15:31
There are NO grills at RC. So cooking is over the fire rings or bring your own grill. I agree cooking over the open fire is the best. Sounds like my other half is not going, so I'll be camping. Might as well I didnn't buy the gear and trailer for nothing.

LVC2003
03-02-2009, 19:55
My wife and I should be good to go for the 25th, possibly the 26th too. I'd like to camp out there, but seeing as we only live about 30 mins from RC, I have to sell that to her first!

If anyone from out of town needs to know any more info on the local area, feel free to ask away!!

My club was just out at Rausch yesterday and it was the perfect mix of still frozen ground with fresh mud holes to play in.

You can bump me off the maybe list and to the definite list.

BucketOKarma
03-16-2009, 17:00
The list is updated to reflect two new "Bumps" from "Maybe" to "Go"!! Woot!

Jeffb_79: No special arrangements are needed for camping, once you are at the park, go straight to the "shack" to get your membership and day pass (you will need a new day pass for each day). Once you do that, find yourself a spot to camp in the woodline. I personally think the area between the entrance and the port-o-lets is the best camping and should be large enough for the amount of people we have camping.

Beware the pungee pits in the camping areas though, the VC are everywhere!

Good thing I went to the site. If you've never gone before and are wheeling both days, be ready to spend 80 bucks. I may be coming up early Saturday so I don't have to pay to camp Friday night. I know that's weak, but I'm already pushing it to get her registered in time.

Guys, if you show up to the park on Friday afternoon and don't want to wheel but set up camp there is no charge. You can walk the Comp course but NO riding around.

There is a $10/year membership that you need to get, best bet is to have the form filled out with the waiver before getting there. Wheeling is $35/day or if you're close enough to the park you can get a 5 day pass for $125 (good for a year). There is also a season pass for $300. IMO, I like the 5 day pass, especially since I intend to wheel Sat and Sun. But I do go there enough.

There is a "clearing" to the right of the driveway enterance that can hold a large party along with a few spot tucked in the tree line.

As it was put to me a while back by Truck. For every 100 people who own a Jeep and are in or were in the Military you may get a couple of people interested. And then those who do end up joining even less become actively involved.

Don't spin your wheels over this. Give them the info and they can either join and come have a great weekend at the First Camp MJ. Or they can sit on their arse at home watching Barney cartoons...

Your Kidding Right?! I dont trust her driving it on pavement let alone on the trails! Not to mention she doesn't know how to drive stick.
No thanks - as much as I would like to trail, if doc says I can't i'd feel safer not going at all over having her behind the wheel.

you would have a chance to meet 40 plus members face to face. It is a good chance to meet people that you may be wheeling with in the next few years.

Well, I'm a brand new member as of today and I noticed you guys will be in my neck of the woods next month already. How perfect!

I suspect my fiance and I will be joining you all for this outting. I likely won't be able to trail with you (going to have to check with doc) - I broke my hand on St. Patties Day and am not suppose to put any strain on it - doctors orders but I'd love to meet all of you and get some tips. I have a stock '08 Rubicon Unlimited and about > ---- < this much knowledge of what I need done to it to get her ready to trail (if much at all), so if its not too much of a burden I'll just come pick all of your brains as I'm eager to trail.

Which campground are you referring to? Rausch has primtive camping that is free with membership and wheeling. They do allow dogs, just your basic rules. On a leash and clean up after them.

There are a few other campgrounds in the area and I'm sure they allow pets also.

Lots of folks bring their dogs with them. I would invest in a harness system that doesn't allow a lot a free roaming. I've got mine set in 3 stages for my knuckleheads, though I haven't brought either on a ride to RC.

If you're wheeling, where is your fiance going to be, if not in the passenger seat?

actually that was going to be my next question - which camp ground are most of you staying at? This jeep will be heading up with quite a few beers if folks arent staying at a state park and plan to mainly hit one campground.

I think everyone that is camping is going to be right on the property, since it's priced right, FREE:D. Some are staying at the Comfort Inn which is 10 miles or so from the park.

Yeah you can drink at the camp sites AFTER you're done for the day. You can NOT walk around in the Comp area or parking lot. The booze needs be kept at camp, it's NOT allowed on the trails at all. Drunk driving violators will have the membership banned, lifetime, and the club will also be put on warning. These rules can also be found on the main site or forums.

I feel incredibly stupid for not thinking of this, but in my defense, I didn't really expect the turn-out to be so good, and I certainly didn't think we would get sponsors. Then there is the fact that I'm getting married, and shipping out the weekend after the event (this is my "Final Ride" before shipping). If the rear main seal, you might just want to get used to the fact of having it. I thought mine was leaking pretty bad before, but I only lose about a half quart every 3k miles so I haven't bothered to attempt fixing it yet.

I was wondering if it's that the Jeep is heavy and on the highway the AT trans struggles to push enough, keep finding myself deep in the throttle and not moving. Is it still cool to join up and go with y'all or is the list closed yet?

They do now, just started in Jan. Before that cash only. Office opens at 0800. Might be best to set the staging area on the left side of the office, towards where the old office was. Could not make ot for the weekend. Went up on Friday for the maiden voyage of my sons 86 CJ-7.(beater project we are fixinup). Met Capndonsghost at the gas station on the way in. He was setting up camp and the place was rather empty.

Weather was good and we hit the trails. Ran a few greens then his fuel pump crapped out. Put her back on the trailer and headed home. Had she held up we were headed back after work to run Sunday.

Anyway by next year we will his trail worthy and hopefully mine will be on 35's.

Weather is great and the trails primed for some fun.

Enjoy

I'll be there with my local club. Either in our booth or helping with our RTI ramp.
