View Full Version : Sat 28 Feb, Boulder Creek Farms, Central Texas Wheeling Trip
Ok, it seems like a bunch of people want to go and some went on Presidents day and checked it out.
If you want to head to Boulder Creek Farms on 28 February (saturday) post up. The location is about 60 miles from fort Hood, so if anyone wants to meet up and convoy up, this would tbe the thread to work out the details.
The plan would be to be at the location NLT that 0900, wheel some, bbq or have lunch on site and then wheel some more before heading home.
This would be family friendly and stocker friendly.
Boulder Creek Farms (http://bouldercreekfarms.org/offroad.html) is located in Marble Falls, TX. The park offers 3000 acres / 150 miles of trails. They have trails of varying difficulty. entrance fee is $10 for a year membership to the park and then a $25 fee for a whole day of wheeling. I will try to get confirmation that the fee is per vehicle and not per person.
As I get more info, I will update this post. I will also try to keep a running list of those that wish to join on the ride.

not sure what the traili is like, but recommended is:
- Front and Rear Tow Points
- Full Size Spare
- Any tools parts you may need
- CB??
We will have our trailer incase someone breaks something.
Providing the wife has no plans, we'll probably try and make it. She has no "driving" off-road experience so, most of my day will be in the passengers seat doing the instructor thing on the 1 and 2 trails.
Well, we have a 4 year old daughter that likes riding in the jeep and a 4 month old son that has not really had the chance to go on a trail yet.
I was going to try to go this weekend, but this gives me a chance to grab our trailer for the jeep to trailer our jeep up there and also have a trailer incase someone happens to have an issue with their jeep where they need it trailered back.
I've got a 16yo and an 8yo (boys) who both have experience in the passenger seats. I covered us in mud one day when we were still living in Houston and on the trip back to the house it dried so, we stopped in Burger King to grab a bite. You should have seen the looks we got...
If you get a chance to go, it should be a fun time. I am trying to meet as many people around here as possible. Heck, I told a guy today at the shopette on hood road about MJ and about the upcoming wheeling on the 28th.

its goin to be an additional ten per person over 18 however the ten dollar reg. fee is waived for military with a ID. If i can get a front locker in i will be tryin some of the level 5 trails. Hope for rain the few days prior. O yea IM IN
if you know anyone with a jeep that may want to head out there, let them know about this. There is a lot of room out there and I am working on getting the GPS data for the area for my garmin. This should be fun.

Try and make it out there, the more jeeps the better. We are trying to get more jeepers from Hood on here so we can do everything you mentioned, but it is proving difficult. I try to chat with as many as possible when I see them at the gas station or sit next to them at a stoplight. I guess if enough people tell them they should join up, maybe they will and find out we are not a bad crowd.

I have a sweet garmin that fifthpro talked me into buying. I am trying to get garmin topo date for the area, but it is not lookin good. I heard the maps that the park provides are not spot on.

I may try to make it but will have to meet you at the park as I will be coming from the south.
I am trying to hit the autoshop on post to see if i can knock everything that i need to do out. It is just too easy to push the needed work off to the side to take care of other stuff.

No problem, It is not my trip. Work has been crappy, so I am happy I was able to get the oil changed today. It sucked that we got out of class at 1640, I was counting on getting out at 1500 to have more time to do stuff.
I may have missed it, but what is the plan for the time to leave on Saturday. We are thinking that if the kids are doing OK, then we will stay for the BBQ Sat night. We will just get stuff and put it in the cooler on ice and keep it in the truck.
do we need charcoal and stuff? We have some left over from the BBQ a few weeks ago.
If everyone that has a digital camera brings one, maybe I can use my limited video editing skills to toss a video together for the ride. IF you are trailering your jeep or just getting ready for the trip, have someone take photos so we have photos from the start to the end.
We live in Harker Heights (up knights way), so if anyone is going to pass by this area, maybe we can link up and convoy up.
How late we stay really depends on how the baby is doing. Jazzy can suck it up, take a knee and drink water, but Cannon kind of does what he wants to.

That means you guys will hit the park about 0900?
What channel will you be running on the CB? I'm the one coming from "somewhere down south" (San Antonio), so it would be good to figure out a way to hook up at the park.
I think one of the people that have been there before will know the best place to link up. I will be on channel 4 when I am at the location andI pm'd you my cell number.

I shot you back my cell # and a picture of the jeep as it should be the only one with that banner there and fairly recognizable. I'll tune into channel 4 as well.
