I would also say go for the winch and then save up for a bigger lift. You wont be happy with the small lift after a little bit but the winch is always a nice addition.

If you are not going to go with that much lift, I would just go with a Rubicon Express Budjet Boost spacer lift w/shocks and a set of swaybar disconnects. I go with this and the winch and then get the diff cover.

I put a 2" BB on less than a year ago and wish I had saved the money on a better and bigger lift. I say go Diff and winch. with armor even at sock height you can work your way over some pretty good rocks.

Winch first, then some lockers, then a lift. At least if you get stuck, you can still get yourself out with a winch. You get stuck with a lift, you are just stuck.

then some lockers

Is there anything wrong with the factory lockers? I know their made in japan but are they known to break?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it's broke, it needed to be upgraded anyway. If you're going to upgrade, buy nice or buy twice. Remember this grasshopper. I've been promoted to cricket. These are the only things I'm authorized to pass on.

Go with the winch and diff cover and I would get a gas tank skid I see lots of TJ's taking hits there. then lift it later.

Put a 2 inch BB on a Oct 06 and then put a 4.5 in RE lift on Nov 07. You will only want to go bigger, so don't get a lift that you know you may not be happy with down the road.

What kind of lockers do you have now?

korisu56
03-09-2008, 09:27
my guess is the lockers that came in the rubi. They're not brand name are they? I never thought to ask that question...

before the lift. before upgrading lockers. before a winch. get PROTECTION!!!!

Engine Skid
Diff covers
Power steering box
Rocker guards.

The Rubicon is a capable rig right out of the box. Do the armor so you don't beat it up too bad, and then wheel the crap out of it... Once your abilities match the rig, THEN start upgrading.... Just my .02....

Why do you think that it came with lockers? You could have limited slip diffs, which ain't really lockers. If you have a switch that needs to be flipped in the cab with locker or something like that on it to engage the lockers then I would say being a Rubi that you prolly have ARB's. I think someone with a Rubi could help out a little more. You could enter your VIN here and find out what specs it came with. http://www.jeep.com/en/owners/

If it's a Rubicon, it has air lockers.

Trailsnail...that's why I assumed it had lockers...I (as am more often than not) could be wrong.

si1ver03rubicon

It has a front air locker and a rear limited slip w/ air locker.

All Rubicons have front and rear air lockers/limited slip from the factory.

Was thinking that, but thought it was an option on Rubi's. If it has the air lockers then I think they are the ARB one's. If they are then there is no worries about upgrading. The ARB's are great.

Save up for a good suspension lift. Go with the armor and winch for now.

I agree with jeepinsoldier armor, winch and the BB w/ 1"bl 1"mml till you wear out the springs then if you're happy with 33's get the OME springs 934 fronts (for a v8 zj ) and 949 for the rears ( for an LJ ) i put those on mine after i wore out the front springs on mine as for armor I would get control arm skids, engine skid ,diff cover, steering box,

The rear locker has been known to break on 35 and larger tires. It is not the locker itself that breaks it is the lsd part of the locker some gears in there i can spell the name of right now but start with a "h". Ways around that is get a arb locker takes some custom work in the diff to work with the thicker rubicon gears. Or give up the lsd and replace it with another front locker from mopar. option b is the least expensive and i have not hear stories about the front locker breaking when installed in the rear. I would not worry about it for a while i have been running on 37's with cromo shafts and 5.13 gears on my stock locker and it has not broken yet. As far as what to buy. i would say steering box skid. 1st. they are very expensive to replace and a rock hits the pump really easy. trust me i know. Rokmen sells what i think is the best on the market cause it covers the most. 2nd get a tummy tuck. teraflex makes a good one and had the bracket for the compressor pumps or aev/nth just started shipping theres again. ($) that will get you 2" more clearance in the middle so you wont get high centered as much. then save your money up after that till you break something out wheeling. If you want to get some diff covers that is always good. But if your out wheeling and you think "i have diff covers nothing to worry about" think again cause the stock steering is weak and likes to bend very easy. I would not suggest buying ANY suspension parts other than front discos till you figure out what your "goal" for tire size and long arms vs short arm. lcg vs tall. aev highline or tube fenders. It sucks to keep buying kit after kit after kit. these are just my thoughts. my .02 cents as you would say hope it helps.
