I drove the 3 litre CRD in a new Grand. It was sweet. felt like it had more power than the Hemi in the same Jeep - and got way better mileage.

I would love to put a disel in the LJ, but I bet this swap will cost a fortune...... Most places that swap the Hemi into a TJ want over $10,000 to do it. :(

i bet this would be a sweet swap for a crawler because of the high torque but not so great in the mud because of the low rev, i would love to try this if i could to do it on a budget cheaper than 10 grand

Can't be that bad. I'm sure you and I could find a way to cheap it down.

Really? How easy is the swap itself? Is there a lot to convert/mod? Computer, exhaust, blah blah blah? Any lead on a writeup?

It would take a ton of time and effort, not to mention the jeep would no longer pass EMI .

There's no clauses to emi laws/regs that deal with motor conversions?

yes there is, I cant find it but Mike (H2_Recovery) has the regs and it states that after 2001 or so your not to swap anything other than stock engine, or somthing along that line. Has to do w/ emi and the computer w/ the vin.

I think like the military, there is an exception to any policy, you just have to dig and find it because no one will show you. It would more likely be different from state to state. With enough money and lawyers anything is possible. Do we have any JAG's on MJ yet?

I was reading the article where FOUR WHEELER built the diesel 4 dr JK. They put a 4 dr JK body on the shortened frame/engine combo from a Cummins diesel fullsize Ram pickup. Each state is diffrent. Some can be registered as a specialty vehicle. The vehicle must pass emissions, and the OBD reads the vehicle like its still the Ram pickup. The AEV Hemi TJ conversions are legal. Part of the insane cost is what it cost to get the process 50 state certified. I believe the swaps from Burnsville Off Road are certified as well.
