This was the quote from the last post:
"That area is not a legal place to wheel your rigs.
That area is currently owned by a land developer.
It used to be "open space" owned by the county, however it was not legal then either.
I was run out of there in 2000 when I didn't know any better. You all know better now.
Wheeling there gives the rest of the wheeling community a bad name and reputation.
Please don't give the rest of us a bad name and avoid that area.
I am pretty sure that you can be ticketed and fined based on the pictures posted here alone. If you are active duty that could cost a clearance.
Thanks. "
Be careful boys. Glad you had fun though

Those who posted in the other thread know what is going on :)

Just so everyone knows from the last thread, we're waiting for the sheriff's office to respond on the site's legality. I'm just bypassing the bickering for now. The thread still lives in another folder until then.

Wha' happuned? Why was the thread deleted? Was the quote a warning? I feel mushroomed.
Never mind. Chris answered my questions I hope nobody gets in trouble. That place has always been used by jeepers, motorcycles, and ATVs. There is a fence, however.

There were allegations that wheeling behind B street (lemme double check location). One member is checking on the status of the legality. Pending results from the Sheriff's Department, the thread will either be reposted with all posts intact or remain deleted.
Personally, I don't give a shit what you do with your jeep or where you do it. However, we won't have it posted up for ammunition for the tree huggers. Just hang in there for a few hours until the situation is resolved.
FWIW relative to the quote. Unless there is a significant group of other issues, a trespassing ticket is unlikely to cost anyone a clearance.
I thought that area had been closed to the public. Are there signs up or is it just "understood"?
Thanks for letting us know what happened to the thread.

you would be looking at more than a trespassing ticket there. destruction of private property for one. and in colorado they do not go easy on people for tearing up the evironment offroading.
please wheel on a trail and stay on trail

just because you had fun and didnt get caught doesnt make this ok. like someone said in the other thread, your probably stationed here and will be leaving here for another duty station in the future. We live here and dont want you making us looking bad and getting our trails closed.
and this is not an are you would be able to "adopt" as a land developer owns it.

I sent that to James yesterday. For some reason I couldn't get the registration to work and got caught up with things and was not able to follow through with this until now.
I took my old XJ over there when I first put a lift on it just to check things out and make sure it was good to go before heading up in the mountains. I was stopped by a county sheriff and was told that I was not allowed to be there. At the time the land was "open space", county property. It was sold in 2005 to a developer that is currently working on the other side of I-25.
I would ask that you please stay on trails that are legal for all of us to wheel on and not to give the four wheeling community a bad name or reputation.
Just because there are tracks there, no signage, no gate does not make it okay to go in there and run up and down those hills. I was lucky that I didn't get a ticket or a fine.
20 minutes from there you can hit Old Stage road or Gold Camp Road and wheel to your hearts content on stuff that is a lot more fun and challenging. 40 minutes from there in Penrose you can hit one of the most difficult trails in the country.
I am not a tree hugger by any means. I am a wheeler and love the sport. Don't ruin our reputation as responsable people by being irresponsable.
Thanks,
Curt

wasnt talking trash was trying to inform people.
whats the plan for this weekend? would be nice to finally meet yall!
Sheesh didnt think it would really be that difficult to figure all of this out.
Now as the responsibility thing goes. I am very responsible in everything I do. I in no way was being irresponsible in my endeavors nor were any of the people I was with. (uneducated maybe but deffinatly not irresponsible.) I am an avid outdoorsman and have fished and hunted this great state for 6 years now. I might get sent somewhere else by the Militarys choice but trust me when I say I own a home here and plan on retiring here in 4 years. So to say were just going to move on is a crock of shit! Really that is the only post that has pissed me off on here about being responsible and leaving this place. I always take out my trash plus typically about 3 other bags when I go out. In fact the guys I was with this last weekend when I pointed out how trashed it was we were all talking about cleaning it up next time we came out.
Plus it makes pictures look horrible when you have a bad ass jeep up on 2 wheels and all you see on the ground is water bottles and garbage everywhere. ;)
As far as who owns it I now have that information and have talked to the President of the Company who is in fact at this time contacting his lawyers. He will get back to me in a day or two on if we can use that property or not. There is the whole liability issues as far as his company is concerned. Especially if we go out there and wheel and roll over or get hurt or damage something.
However that being said he was very interested in us using the land if we would help maintain the property. Keeping his fences up moving larger boulders to cover the access points that are by the housing area. He would like to put a Gate up across from the fire department with a lock that I would get a key to, the fire department would have a key to, and they would maintain Im sure a few keys. I told him that there is a very large jeeping community down here that would be only too happy to help maintain that area and clean it of trash and ensure that the other access points are not removed or damaged to gain access to it.
He is very happy that someone is trying to do it legally since they cant seem to keep people out of it. We would therefore almost become guardians of that area and to the best of our ability keep people off of it and ensure that all the no trespassing signs and everything else stayed up. I have spent the last 2 days trying to run this to ground and am very excited at the prospect of us gaining legal access to this property.
Please be patient and lets do this the right way so we can all enjoy it.

Good on ya. If you pull this off, I'll help build fence and hump boulders.
Would also have to post up signs, if they're all down again.

That's good news. Didn't finish reading the thread before the quote. I just wanted to add that while I'm still here, I'll help out where ever I can. Maybe we could get some of the local shops to support a little bit of the cleanup effort. There is alot of shit there that needs to be gone.
